I remember calling Christine on a long drive (it's my favorite time to make phone calls) with my husband. We had a long conversation in which I took many notes, got many fuzzy feelings, and solidified her as my doula for my baby girl's pending December 2013 birth. I found her on the DONA website and she fit my basic specifications and desires to achieve a natural/non-medicated childbirth. However, as the months went by, she far exceeded those specifications and desires. The first time we met in person at Panera, she was thoughtful, friendly and attentive. The night I went into labor, she gave me the best advice of taking a bath and seeing if I could find a consistent pattern in my contractions and sure enough, I did! I don't recall exactly when she got to the hospital, only that everywhere I was and everything I did, she was right there suggesting ideas for progress and was a calm presence the whole time. Some of my favorite things she helped with during labor were the reminders of PURRR (position (change), urination, respirate, rest and repeat) and her words and touch. She was always suggesting new position changes or location changes (shower, walking down the hallway) to keep me focused yet distracted at the same time (from getting too bogged down with slow progress). Her words were encouraging and she was taking amazing, detailed notes on her phone about my labor (discreetly while my husband was helping me or I was resting). Her touch was on point always; she knew exactly where to push on my lower back at exactly where the baby was during labor. I couldn't have achieved my non-medicated childbirth without her. Postpartum too, she helped with nursing advice, accompanied me to a birth circle to share my story and even watched my daughter for me once or twice during hard times. She is not only my doula, but my friend to this day. I just wish I didn't have to move so that she could be present for my new baby's birth.
As a first time father, I did not know alot about the "ins and outs" of labor support and was fairly unprepared. When my wife suggested the hiring of the dula, I was skeptical but after we met Christine, I felt sure that she had the experience that would be helpful during labor. During the labor, I was very impressed with how she played coach when she was needed in that capacity but would pull back when I felt able enough to take over. Labor lasted quite a while and she stayed through the whole process and even found the time to document and photograph the experience. I am very satisfied with our experience with Christine and we have recommended her to our friends who are pregnant. I am now very aware of how essential it is to have someone with Christine's experience to bring first time parents through the windy road of childbirth. -Jeremy, proud father
Christine was wonderful!! She's real, confident, experience, and "soccer mom" coach. She calmed my nerves as a first time mom and nurse, (which meant I had more fears since I knew everything that could go wrong). I wanted to have as natural of a birth as possible, knowing not every experience is the same, and Christine fully support my decision and played liason between me and the nurses when I needed her to. I hired her originally since it was possibly my husband would be out of town during labor (he flew home the day before my due date, and Baby Boy came the next day!), but looking back, she was more than just a fill in, she was critical! Due to the military hospital I gave birth in, there was not much consistency in staff and I didn't know which provider or midwife I would have. Christine was the constistent, professional presence I needed. She coached me through the worst of my long 20 hr labor and 2 hours of pushing, au naturale, guided my husband, and was there start to finish. I know I literally could not have done it without her help. -Erica, Momma :)
Christine was my backup doula, since I had to be induced at 37 weeks, she had to be perform as my primary doula during birth. I had restricted growth syndrome, so at 37 weeks I was admitted to the hospital after a routine appointment. My doula was out of town; however, she assured me she had a great back up. I was first introduced to Christine over text while I was being prepped for the initial stages of inducing. This was my first child, so I was very nervous but Christine was very responsive over text as we revised a birth plan for this very unexpected birth process. I am in the military and was geographically separated from my husband and family; Christine was ALL I had during the first phase of birth. She reminded me of my rights to initially refuse Pitocin and have the doctors slowly induce me to allow my husband time to travel over 8 hours to make the birth. She was supportive, intuitive, and very knowledgeable. She constantly asked me did I want her to come but I knew this would be a long process and wanted her to save her energy for later. I was induced on April 1 at 8pm, about 24 hours later I was in active labor, when I called Christine to come - she was there in no time. Her presence exemplified a calming I can not truly explain. Once I saw her (this was our first in person meeting), instantly I was assured I would make it through a natural birth. My husband had made it to the hospital and she guided us on steps to relieve pressure and pain. Christine was gentle and empowered me to go through positions as needed. Without having to ask how I was feeling, she was always able to move me into positions that decreased pain and/or pressure. With Christine's positions, amazing tools/tricks, and words of encoragement my dauther was born at 2:15pm on April 3. Christine's presence was invaluable to the peaceful delivery of my baby girl. She was amazing in every aspect and I am forever grateful that she was by my side during the birth of my first child.
Christine has been my doula and coach through all three of my pregnancies. As I contemplate a fourth pregnancy, the only thing I am not worried about is who I'll have on my team and by my side. She is amazing and I highly recommend her as a doula.
She provided valuable information leading up to the birth of my children, including book recommendations, phone support, feedback on my birth plan, a pool playdate and in person meetings that got my husband and me thinking and talking about aspects of the birth we hadn’t thought about before. From the beginning, I knew that systemic pain management would mostly likely be used during labor and she fully supported my decisions and gave me the confidence to labor the way I felt worked for me.
I have fortunately had three uneventful, amazingly quick deliveries. All of my deliveries felt natural, beautiful, and manageable. And I say that because I had Christine by my side. She is a good friend to our family. I feel very lucky to have had her help me on three of the most important days of our lives. I am also especially thankful for her kindness, vast knowledge, quiet confidence and generous spirit.
Christine was a life saver! When I first mentioned to my husband that I wanted to look for a doula, he was skeptical. He wasn't really sure why I would want a stranger involved in our birth, and what she would bring to the table. We met Christine at a local coffee shop, and she went through everything she does and does not do. She was very through, and gave us both a good picture of what she could do.
I had a complicated pregnancy - gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension leading towards pre-eclampsia. She helped us prepare for being induced, and also helped us prepare - reviewing our birth plan, discussing techniques we can use to get through labor etc.
We ended up going 3 weeks early due to my hypertension, and went to the hospital to be induced. Christine counseled us on what to expect, and when to call her. We didn't need her there right away, but we kept in touch through texts and phone calls. My labor ended up being long. I was in the hospital for 3 days after my water was broken and put on pitocin. We asked her to be with us for the second two days.
It was a very long and tiring labor (60 hours from start to birth) and both my husband and I would say that it was still a positive experience. We can say that thanks to Christine! No matter how much we prepared, we were NOT ready for 3 days of trying to get that baby out! Christine did what we couldn't do ourselves. She kept me focused, gave us council when we were tired, and couldn't think straight, and got us through labor. By the third day, I wouldn't have been able to keep going without her! She was no longer a stranger. She was my rock, and I couldn't have done it without her. I would recommend her to any and every one!
My husband says that he will always tell people to consider a doula, and Christine is amazing! It's hard to convince my husband to spend money, but he agrees that hiring Christine was some of the best money we've ever spent.
Christine helped us welcome our daughter on August 27, 2013. Since this was my first pregnancy, and I was determined to have a natural birth, I insisted on hiring a doula. Christine was the first doula we met with and I knew right away she was the right fit for us. She is very knowledgeable, easy to talk to and made herself available 24/7 from the beginning. She lent us books and DVD's that helped prepare us for the labor and delievery. I honestly went into labor very relaxed knowing that she would be with me every step of the way. My labor did not go as planned, but with her support and confidence I was able to give birth naturally with no pain relieving drugs. I would also like to say that she helped my husband tremendously as well. Towards the end of my labor we had some hard decisions to make and she helped to calm my husband down so he was able to assist me. She documented our entire experiece and gave us our birth story afterwards. I will be forever grateful for her services. She remaines a friend and we still keep in touch even though we now live in Northern Virgina.
Our daughter, Harleigh, was born on September 24, 2013 with the amazing help and support of Christine Morales. We met Christine for the first time....the day of our delivery! It was a crazy yet beautiful turn of events. Our original doula was unable to attend our birth due to her serving another laboring mom. Christine was her backup and was there at a moments notice to help assist in the birth of our baby girl. She walked into the room and she immediately became a part of our family and we wouldn't have had it any other way! She jumped right in the mix of things, meshed well with our spunky personalities and we had many moments that we will never forget! She helped me through my pitocin-induced labor and helped me to achieve my much-desired unmedicated delivery! She met with us approximately two-three weeks after the birth and provided us with a beautiful birth story that accounted for all the wonderfully fun moments that we had during our labor......we had a party that day, not just a birthday party. Thank you, Christine, for all that you did and all that you continue to do. The Rucka family is truly blessed with having you in their lives, you started out as a back-up doula and became family and such a wonderful friend. We are forever grateful and love you dearly!

We hired Christine a mere 4 weeks (as it would turn out) before our daughter was born. We foolishly waited until the last minute to hire a doula. We had a few choices left and had narrowed down our choices between Christine who was more experienced and a doula-in-training. Ultimately, we felt experience was worth the extra money. This is a choice that I am so thankful we made. I met with Christine several times in the short time after we hired her. We even had a marathon chat session that lasted almost 4 hours?! I updated her via text and email in the weeks leading up to my delivery. She was always very quick to respond and provide useful insight.
Christine's experience was invaluable during our delivery. I had a premature rupture of membranes (water broke without labor beginning.) This threw our entire labor plan of having a natural birth out the window. Christine was incredible at keeping us (me especially) calm and helping us understand our options once the PROM altered our plan. She was encouraging and firm at the same time when coaching me through my pitocin-induced contractions. She always seemed to know the right thing to do at the right time without me having to say very much. I'm not sure how I would've managed the application of my epidural which took 3 tries without her. She also was a great support for my partner and did not diminish his role in the birth. I had a few other complications that ultimately led to an unplanned c-section. However, with Christine by our side, we felt that we were able to make the best decisions possible and have the best birth experience possible given the circumstances. We do not know how we would've managed without her knowledge and assistance. If this wasn't enough, she also provided us with an amazing written account of our daughter's birth.
We highly recommend Christine. If we have any more children, we'd hire her again.
Christine is an amazing doula!! My husband and I decided to hire a doula when there was a chance he would be deployed for the birth of our first baby. We had some doubts about sharing such an intimate experience with "a stranger" but right away felt very comfortable with Christine. She asked questions about our hopes for our birth, listened to our needs and was a fabulous resource. She always responded promptly with a positive, helpful comment to any of my questions and updates. Once in active labor, Christine was ready and willing to join us as soon as we requested. My husband was actually home, so we waited before calling her, which happened to be around 1am. She responded right away and was quickly at our house despite the late time. We were so relieved to see her! Through every contraction she was right by me, telling me what I needed to hear. She had gotten to know me and knew the right things to say and do to help me manage all the sensations of labor. I never was uncomfortable with her. In fact, I was so grateful to have her by my side. My husband was still completely hands-on and involved. It really was a great team. Christine guided me with advice on how to breath and gave me the confidence to continue listening to my own body. She was an advocate for us at the hospital as well. She was so helpful when talking with the nursing staff and doctors. She was friendly and polite but always had my best interest and wishes at heart. She was also very helpful at relaying messages to family in the waiting room. She wrote the most beautiful, detailed birth story for us. We still keep in touch and I consider Christine a part of our family. I highly recommend Christine Morales as a doula!!!
My wife and I found the perfect doula (thanks to this website) which allowed us to experience a very pleasant birthing experience. Our initial meeting was very informative and positive, she gave us plenty of time to allow us making up our minds. During the pregnancy, she provided us with lots of quality references, relaxation techniques and aids, and even a birthing ball to practice with! We've had numerous, quite long e-mail correspondances, so her support was way beyond the 2 meetings prior the birth. She also played a very important role in communicating with the doctors and nurses. Her support during the labor and delivery was invaluable to my wife and me. Also, she prepared an amazingly detailed birth story, helping us remembering our very enjoyable birth experience. Hiring Christine was the single BEST decision we've made during the whole pregnancy. I would definitely recommended her services!
I am very grateful that we met and hired Christine. My wife and I are both in the Army; she's stationed in Virginia and I was stationed in Kansas with a deployment to Iraq coming up when our daughter was due. My wife and I were worried that I wouldn't be around for the birth at all and I wanted her to have a supportive , familiar face in the delivery room if I couldn't be there. I was initially skeptical of hiring anyone at first, but after meeting Christine for the first time, it immediately seemed silly. Christine immediately demonstrated at our first meeting a depth of knowledge and warmth that I knew my wife and daughter were going to be in good hands whether or not I was there. Christine was terrific during the labor itself, fielding all the calls from a couple of scared first timers like us. She met us at our apartment as my wife entered the transition phase and even risked permanent damage to her van's upholstery, allowing me to drive as she coached my wife in the back so that neither of them would be distracted by me grinding the gears in my wife's Jetta.
Our experience with Christine and the help and support she provided was wonderful. I'd recommend her services to any other skeptical fathers-to-be. My wife and beautiful daughter have since moved out to Kansas with me. We may not be able to be stationed in Virginia when Kate and I have our next child, but we will be calling Christine even if she's halfway across the country.
Christine was very valuable to my husband and I during the birth of our first child. She was completely flexible, and ready to be there through a large portion of my labor at my home if my husband was unavailable due to being deployed. She was absolutely incredible through all of it, providing support on the phone before and during labor, and helping us decide when to leave for the hospital, even risking my water breaking in her car to help us get there quickly. It was wonderful to have an extra set of hands and emotional support. Christine was able to be amazingly supportive, while still making the entire experience feel very special and intimate for my husband and I. She was instrumental in helping me advocate for myself, and made us feel very supported while we pursued our goal of a drug-free birth. However, if I had changed my mind and decided to use some pain medication, I have no doubt she would have been just as supportive of my wishes, because Christine is so helpful at helping you make the birth an experience you treasure, however works best for you. She took awesome photos, and wrote a birth story I will cherish forever. I'm only sorry that I will not be in the area when we have more children, because I would definitely use Christine again!
Christine was an unexpected surprise! She was my backup doula in the event my doula would not be available for my birth. None of us thought I would ever meet Christine, but that all changed when I went into labor on a day that my doula was attending another birth. We had the unexpected pleasure of meeting Christine 3 weeks ago! Not only did we speak immediately after my doula contacted her (1am), she waited to hear from us a second time, and we finally contacted her 6 hours later, she arrived at the hospital promptly (driving all the way from Hampton) with a beautiful smile and full of energy. She was ready to do whatever needed to be done to make me feel comfortable and at ease. Allthough I never met Christine before this day, I felt like I knew her forever. She was so comfortable to be around, she blended with me and my husband so effortlessly. And if I didn't know any better, I would have thought for sure that Christine and my labor and delivery nurse worked together on several previous occassions, but it was their first time meeting as well. I can not explain here, especially in such a limited space, how amazing my supoort team was that day. A true Yin and Yang - true balance! My husband was amazing.. Christine made him feel so involved and knew exactly when to let him take over. She helped me stay focused - helped me control my breathing and gave me the courage to keep going. They all say that it wasn't them, it was ME that brought my baby into this word naturally - but I beg to differ. I could not have done it without them!! Christine was my rock and my protector!! I never once felt scared or vulnerable .. I knew Christine would take care of it!! Christine was ready for the task at hand, as unexpected as it was. Thank you Christine, I will never forget you :) xoxo
I am a Certified Nurse Midwife practicing in Hampton Roads VA. I worked as a doula myself for many years, and am passionate about this profession. I believe no woman should labor without the presence of strong wise women like Christine. I have worked with her several times. I have seen her work tirelessly at births, connecting with her client in a very calming and trusting way. Her clients connect with her and and feel fully supported. She is knowledgeable about normal birth, and able to explain options very well. As a provider I enjoyed working with her because she is very respectful to others and advocated for her client without causing tension in the birth room. I saw her in action at a birth where nothing went as expected, and she guided and supported her client through the ups and downs of her labor for many hours, staying well after the birth to help her client process everything, and taking pictures. I would welcome her at any of my births and am honored to know her. I look forward to working with her in the future.
Christine was our wonderful Doula on the birth of our first and only baby. We did not know what to expect and initially had a very cold, seemingly uncaring nurse. Christine was there for over 24 hours, missing her own son's tournament to see us through a long labor and eventual C-Section. Without her guidance, wisdom and compassionate care, our birth experience would not have been the great experience it was! She was with us every step of the way from before the birth and even afterwards where she presented us with our "birth story" ---all the details and facts she copied down during the process and quilted into a beautiful cohesive tale of the advent of our daughter plus 50+ pictures she took (we were so into the process, we would not have remembered to take pics!) It was recorded in word and picture thanks to her! She is truly wonderful and we will have her if we ever have another birth and recommend her to anyone and everyone who will be giving birth---she is just amazing!!
I am privileged to know Christine as a colleague, friend and as my doula. She has proven valuable to me in so many ways. When she attended the birth of my fourth child in December 2008, she was a seamless addition to my birth team, offering quiet words of encouragement and counter pressure to my back through each contraction. It was also very important to me that Christine document that final birth for me through pictures, video and notes. And she somehow managed to do all three while providing physical comfort measure to me. I never felt a lack of attention from her during my labor. She was an expert multi-tasker! As a fellow birth doula, Christine's support has extended to me in the professional realm as well. She is a trusted colleague and. has served as a sounding board for me on numerous occasions when I encounter scenarios that prompt me to seek advice or opinions from another doula. She was also one of my mentors when I was first getting my footing as a doula and really continues to mentor me on my doula journey. Above all, I am happy that I can call her my friend. You will not be disappointed if you choose Christine as your doula.
