I attended 3 births while training to be a birth assistant at a local birth center. I realized that wasn't the best role for me, and it pushed me even further to pursue my doula certification.

I am very happy that I had chosen Hayley as a birth doula.  Our family lives in Germany and we were in the USA for a short stay and there was a big chance that father would not be able to attend the delivery. That is why it was particularly important for me to have a trustful person to support me during the delivery. Being a foreigner and a first-time parent-to-be, I was searching for someone who would make me feel safe and calm in the unusual environment. When I met Hayley the first time I could immediately see that she is the type of person I am searching for: knowledgable and confident.

Luckily in the end the father was able to come to US in time, but still having Hayley with us was of a great help. I was planning for a natural water birth without anestesia or induction and Hayley already at the prenatal meetings has given valuable advise on possible natural pain management techniques and how one can naturally stimulate the delivery, when you are close to the due date. She also helped me to prepare my birth plan: she suggested to prepare a relaxing playlist, to use supportive imaginary and calming oil essences. We have discussed in a detail what my wishes and possibilities are.

When the actual labor has started Hayley was there to help: she was helping with organisation, reminding and taking care of the details we discussed, suggesting labour positions and other ways how my boyfriend can help me through the process.  At the same time she was carefully watching for my reactions and stepping back where it was needed. When the father was too tired, she was there ready to provide her hands and support. Needless to say that in the  end we had the delivery exactly the way we wished it.

Hayley is professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and loving. Being someone who considers herself pretty educated on birth, I was iffy on whether I wanted a doula for this birth. When birth day came around, she was quick to answer every call or text all day long and into the night when I finally felt I needed her. She arrived at the birth center promptly and was a welcome sight. Immediately I was comforted with a hug and a shoulder to (literally) lean on. Hayley knew all the right moments to step back and let my husband and I work through the labor and exactly when to intervene with suggestions or encouraging words. Her hands on practices and knowledge of a multitude of labor positions helped ease and also increase the intensity of contractions. When labor felt overpowering, and I would audibly say/shout “ow” or “it’s painful”, Hayley suggested changing the language. This adjustment in a few simple phrases helped me readjust my headspace. Hayley was also on the ball about advocating for my wants and needs. I wanted a cervical check, and she had no issue helping us by getting the midwife while my husband continued to support me. She went above and beyond by taking one of our phones and photographing the birth, and when me and my husband were falling asleep she stayed alongside my newborn as the midwife performed all assessments. After having our postpartum meeting I am happy to have had someone there who could offer their point of view as we processed the birth. She made sure nursing was going well, offered self care information that can apply to the whole family, and made sure I was feeling okay before leaving. I am so grateful for her. I am sorry to write such a long review, but felt if you’re looking for a doula you should know Hayley has absolutely everything to get the job done. I 100% recommend her as a doula, and should I have another child I would not hesitate to hire her again!
