I honestly didn't know much about what doulas do before this, I just knew that I wanted to try for a natual birth and as a first time mom I had no idea what that would look like. Furthermore, my husband is a very supportive person but we both didn't know how he would react in a situation as intense as birth which is why we sought help. Joan was the first and only doula we met with because we both almost immediately knew she would be the right fit for us. Firstly, her positive and calming presence is exactly what anyone would need during birth. She was also incredibly supportive of all my choices, even if they didn't match what she would personally choose. My labor was about 24 hours. Towards the end, my baby was transverse (which we didn't find out until later) and I was crying, gagging, and sometimes vomitting during every contraction. She rubbed my back and hips for HOURS while my husband helped me breathe through contractions. I ended up getting an epidural and they did an u/s which is when we found out baby was transverse. Joan is so knowledable and she told me to get into a position to help the baby get into place. Very soon after, I felt a weird pop- it was the baby turning head down! I definitely would not have to known to do that without her. If you are having doubts about hiring a doula I would suggest just meeting with one to see if it's right for you. My husband and I were hesitant due to the financial aspect and not knowing if having a doula was a necessity. But as I was talking to him about our birth experience yesterday, he said hiring Joan was worth every single penny and that there was no way we could have done it without her- that is coming from the most supportive and helpful husband! Joan never took away my husband's role as my supporter. In fact, she not only supported me, but she did for him too. She educated us on many aspects of birth and made herself completely available to us throughout pregnancy. I can't recommend her enough!

I cannot say enough good things about Joan! My husband and I are originally from Wisconsin so both of our families are out of state. My sister suggested I look for a doula for some extra support since I was feeling a little overwhelmed. She found Joan and the rest is history! My husband was a little skeptical at first but when we met with Joan I knew right away it was the right choice. We loved the prenatal appointments and learned so much. She has so many educational resources available and was always available to answer our many questions. Our goal was an unmedicated birth but due to complications I was induced. Joan came in and helped us labor through pitocin and supported us through the decision to get an epidural. Even though it wasn't the birth plan we intended, Joan was there every step of the way. My husband and I are so grateful for that.

Joan, thank you so much for making this journey to motherhood so amazing and turning my skeptical husband into a "Dudela"! We love you!!

Joan is absolutely amazing! I have never met anyone with as much passion as she has for her trade. From our very first prenatal visit, my husband and I knew that she carried the peace and calm nature that we would want in a doula.

She was a deep source of information and did an thorough job at making us feel prepared for our birth. Any family would be lucky to have her, and I highly recommend her as a doula.

Joan is truly amazing! She helped make my birth experience with this baby more positive than the first. With my first pregnancy and no doula, my daughter was positioned posterior making it a difficult delivery & recovery. Fast forward 3 years...with Joan’s help, my baby was positioned perfectly to deliver with only a few pushes. I was able to labor to 8 cm without an epidural & finish the birth with a poorly functioning epidural. I felt empowered as she cheered me on in the delivery room. She also gave my husband cues to support me. I not only consider her our doula but now our friend. I highly recommend Joan the Doula for your birth experience.

Joan by far not only captured the experience of my child’s birth , but she captured the emotion and the love and the true feeling of awe. Every time I see the photos and the video she created through the photos, my heart is back in that moment of full on joy for the work the Lord has done. There are not sufficient words of thanks I can say to her for doing this.

And aside from the memories, Joan was the sweetest, quietest, most precious presence in the room. Never in my face with a camera but somehow capturing the most important details without us even realizing it.

She is without a doubt amazing and gifted.
