When I started my journey to motherhood, I wasn't sure what a Doula provided, or if I even needed one, as it seemed like such a luxury. Having gone through this experience with Rachel made me realize she is the reason I was able to have the birth and postpartum experience that I didn't even know I needed. Not only that, there is no way I could have accomplished what I did without her. She gently guided me along the decision making process, and never made me feel like I "should" choose one way over the other. Rachel gave me the right information and helped me connect to my inner voice so even though I was doing something I'd never done before, I felt confident in my choices as a soon-to-be-mom, and gave my husband and I the tools to advocate for ourselves through the process.

She was there for me leading up to my labor. She supported me, held my hand, and offered a calm loving presence during the birth of my son. And she gave me the guidance, love and nurturing that I so needed as a vulnerable new mom figuring it out at home for the first time. The confidence she helped me uncover and connect to in myself as a mother has spilled over into all other parts of my life.

The right combination of words doesn't exist that could ever really express the gratitude I feel for having Rachel in our lives during such a transformational experience, but it's safe to say my son, my husband, myself and our dog all view Rachel as a beloved part of our family.

Three years after having my first child via c-section, I became pregnant with my 2nd child. The preeclampsia & hypertension I experienced in my first pregnancy made me nervous to even think about a possible VBAC. Would I be allowed to try? Would I be able to handle a vaginal delivery? I questioned my ability to safely deliver my child vaginally based on the helplessness and loneliness I felt in the hospital 3 years ago. I questioned whether or not I was worthy of a doula if I had to have a c-section again. I really thought that I did not deserve to have a doula because in my mind I had failed at labor and it would be a waste of her time if I failed a 2nd time and had to have a csection. At 6 months pregnant, Rachel asked me about how my pregnancy was going and I smiled, nervously said that I knew I might not be able to deliver vaginally and that I'd try but wasn't expecting to be successful. It was like she heard my words but understood my heart. Right then she asked me if she could be there for my 2nd trial of labor. It was like she knew I was emotionally terrified and was doubting myself. She didn't offer to be my doula, she offered to be my inner strength, to champion me along the way and make me feel proud of my body no matter how my son would come into this world, she offered to be strong for me and allow me to process all decisions without filter or hesitation when my family and I would waiver and react out of fear. She never asked me what I needed, she listened to my breathing, watched my movements and adjusted her words, her touch, her energy to make me feel comfortable. I ended up having a csection and feeling knowing that I am a bad ass...much different from how I felt the first time.

Rachel has an amazing energy that instantly puts people at ease and I can’t imagine a better advocate for any type of birth. Her strong but calm demeanor helped me navigate through my pregnancy and delivery. It was amazing to have someone by my side prioritizing my best interest so I could focus on giving life to and bonding with my daughter during those first, sweetest moments. Highly recommend!

When I found out I was pregnant with my second child, I knew I wanted to have a different birth experience from my first. My husband and I made the decision to have a doula, and we couldn't have been happier with Rachel. The week leading up to my due date she worked on preparing my body for labor with pressure point massage and talking through my goals with encouragement. As soon as I went into labor, she was there timing my contractions and helping to ease my pain. I had a labor playlist full of music and during labor when I felt the need to get up and dance, she did so with me.  When I was near the end, I was uncertain if I had what it took to finish natural labor, which I so badly wanted to do! During the most painful contractions, she locked eyes with me and and said repeatedly "You've got this, mama." Those words meant so much and her conviction gave me the final push to complete my daughter's birth. From start to finish, Rachel provided me with the most encouraging and inspiring ways to find my rhythm. She made me feel at ease and helped me feel so very powerful. We are so grateful she is a part of our daughter's birth story and will forever be tied to the early memories of Layla's life.

Rachel made a huge difference in my ability to find the strength within me for a successful labor and birth of my son. From the start, in our prenatal meetings, she listened to my partner and me, and she learned what she could bring to the table to support us. During labor, she was a hands-on and also a gentle, compassionate presence. She labored with us at home, birth center and hospital, all the while stepping in with helpful suggestions to my partner and myself, offering nourishment, a hand to squeeze or the exact words of encouragement at the right moment. She has an intuitive gift for what a mother needs during childbirth. She was also great about checking in postpartum, providing recipes for nutrition and lactation support. Overall, she's a super loving presence and she helped make my experience of becoming a new mom a positive one!
