I wanted a doula for my 2nd birth as my 1st birth was long and difficult, and I wished we’d had more support. I loved how excited and passionate they were about birth, and how much experience they had. They were also knowledgeable about baby positioning/Spinning babies, and Hypnobirthing (we did Hypnobabies) which was important to me.

This birth went nothing like my first! Once we let Rebekah know we needed her (around 3:50am) she arrived at our home quickly and calmly. She immediately stepped in to comfort me, doing strong hip squeezes and positively encouraging me while my husband stepped out to call our Midwives (We planned to meet them at a Birth Center soon). Within a few minutes of Rebekah’s arrival I began involuntarily making deep grunting sounds. Rebekah immediately recognized this as pushing and called to my husband in her super calm doula voice “let them know that she is pushing”... then a minute later, still totally calm “let them know that her water broke and that the baby is coming.” In my total focus/hypnosis I do not know that I could have communicated this to my husband and the Midwives without her there. Because of her calm, yet direct communication, my husband came back into the bathroom in time to realize it was happening and catch our baby, and our Midwives arrived just a few minutes later! Rebekah kept communication with the Midwives during the few minutes before they arrived. The last minute change of plans/birth location could have been stressful, but instead it was just perfect and joyous, largely in part to her calm presence.

As a bonus she captured many memorable photos within minutes after our baby was born. She also stayed with us and our Midwives for a couple hours after birth, helping support initial breastfeeding, cleaning and helping me eat/drink.

Thank you Rebekah for being a part of our wonderful birth experience!
