Before kids, I had a couple of friends who were doulas. I didn’t know much about it, but I had a hunch that I would want to work with a doula when the time came. When I met Jennifer, I knew she was the right fit. As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I asked her to save my due date. And boy am I glad I did. Jennifer was amazing from start to finish, and beyond. She was incredibly kind and patient, gentle and well-paced in everything she did with us. One of the most important parts about being a doula is to know when and how to share information. Jen has a knack for this. It’s also very difficult to strike the right balance when it comes to supporting a woman’s initial plans for pain management vs. what she ends up wanting in the moment. This was perhaps Jen’s most stand-out quality as a doula: she completely supported my desire to avoid an epidural, and then 35 hours in, completely supported my choice to get one. She was a key collaborator at the hospital, yet facilitated my husband as my main partner throughout. She even managed to take a breathtaking video of the birth moment on my phone without me realizing- a video I will treasure forever. After bringing our daughter home, we got to see Jen again, as she brought us a special postpartum stew. She introduced me to my wonderful Lactation Consultant who is still part of my support network 13 months later. We are eternally grateful to Jennifer, and cannot imagine this experience without her.
