There are 3 group doulas.
Heather's group of doulas were amazing! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! We used them for nights (and a few days) after our twins' birth.
Jill - Jill was so wonderful as a night doula for me and the twins during our first few months home. She was always on time and was excited to help with the babies. She gave them so much love and cared for them as if they were her own while allowing me to get the rest that I needed. Jill is especially good at helping to encourage and balance a new mom’s emotional needs as well. She was never judgmental about decisions that I made (like switching from breastfeeding to formula feeding) and was an overall wonderful doula. Highly recommended!!
Shannyn - Shannyn was such a wonderful night doula for me and the twins during our first few months at home. She always arrived ready to work and gave my babies so much love which allowed me to rest knowing that they were being taken care of. Having had twins herself, she was a great resource for me to bounce ideas off of and had a lot of wonderful advice on how to parent two babies at once. She was very encouraging to me as a new mom of twins. She was wonderful!
Marian - Marian treated my babies as if they were her own. I really appreciated her calm demeanor as I had experienced a lot of anxiety during my pregnancy and keeping my home calm after the babies were born was helpful for me. Wonderful experience!
Lily - Lily filled in for us a few times. She was helpful and caring for my babies and me and did extra things around the house to help lighten my load. She also has experience in other natural/“crunchy” postpartum things like placenta encapsulation and lactation cookies. She did a great job!
I reached out to Pittsburgh Doula Network a few weeks after my son was born. There were many circumstances I didn't anticipate, including his frequent crying due to reflux, and I was overwhelmed and an emotional mess. Heather connected me with Lily Carter for postpartum doula care. Lily was amazing! She was friendly and made me feel better from the first moment she arrived. She helped me around the house, helped to settle my son down and showed me strategies to help him sleep at night. I moved two weeks before my son was born and Lily saw the house was still mostly in boxes. She offered to help and assisted in unpacking and settling the house and most importantly, my son's nursery. The support I received from Lily was absolutely priceless and the key to me adjusting to motherhood and finding a groove for taking care of my little one. I highly recommend postpartum doula services to all the mommas I meet now! I am so happy with the time I spent with Lily, she is truly talented and highly knowledgeable.
We called the Heather with the Pittsburgh Doula Network because we needed nighttime help with our 6 week old daughter. We were exhausted! I originally wanted the post partum doulas (Colleen and Jess) to bottle feed my daughter while I slept, but this was not possible because I was diagnosed with mastitis that same day and had to nurse every time my daughter woke up as part of the treatment. But even having Colleen and Jess bring me the baby just to nurse and for them to take care of diaper changes, swaddling, etc, still saved time and got me more sleep. Not to mention that I slept much better while they held the baby monitor all night long.
But the doulas helped out with more than just night feedings. Colleen came for a few hours during daytime to help put my baby on a routine, and that was a lifesaver! Prior to putting baby on a routine, I was nursing for 1 or more hours at least 8 times a day, and I was exhausted. Every time baby cried, it was a guessing game - and I always guessed she was hungry, but that was not the case! Putting her on a routine turned my chaotic days into a something much more manageable and saved my sanity. Colleen also helped me troubleshoot my baby's poor daytime napping. Jess is a lactation educator and addressed many of my insecurities and self-doubt about breastfeeding. I am much more confident about breastfeeding now, and it is no longer a dreaded chore.
Colleen and Jess are very knowlegeable and were so compassionate in dealing with my frayed nerves and emotional state. Their help and support has improved my life with baby so much that I cannot thank them enough. This was the best money I've ever spent, and I would definitely ask for their help again with our next baby!
I started to freak out when I found out I was having twins (with a toddler who would be 20months), and frantically started to search for help. Heather was so friendly and helpful with matching me to two of the best doulas in town. Words can not express my gratitude towards their help throughout my transition of 1 to 3 kids at home. Both Michele and Melanie were beyond helpful. Not sure what I would have done without them. I am forever grateful for their help. I would recommend either of them to anyone!
I gave birth to my baby in July 2017. Actually I was almost alone (I came from Russia to have a baby and went back)
Thanks God I found Pittsburgh Doula Network and doula Kim.
My husband told me that it was the best investment ever&
Kim hepled me to prerare the room and came to help us the nex day after we came back from the hospital.
She was really nice and helpful. She explained everything and showed how to wash, feed, lull, change the baby. Everything seemed much easier right after Kime came. She found breastfeed consultant. My baby really liked spending time with Kim.
I am sure I will call ber again.
I am so happy a friend of mine referred Heather to me as I was in desparate need of help with my newborn. I had two small children at home; 2 and 4 when my third boy was born and with the lack of sleep I was in desparate need of sleep. I was let go from my job two weeks after giving birth and quickly became a stay at home Mom with 3 boys under the age of 5. Heather was patient with me as I was barely able to get to the phone to text her back with the answers she needed from me to provide the best care and doula. Heather was able to help me right away with a doula and we loved Sandra so much we miss her to this day! She was amazing and made my nights much easier and I was able to sleep and take care of my two other children with enjoyment and not always struggling just to get by. My experience is a five star rating and I will refer Heather and Sandra to anyone. Having the connection with Sandra made me fee immediately comfortable with her and my baby. Thank you again Heather for making me nights easier and spending time with my children enjoyable. I know these years don't last forever and now I can remember them :-)
It was a bittersweet moment when the last doula left our house. Sweet, because I had come so far and was finishing the newborn phase; bitter, because I knew I would really miss the wonderful doulas.
Melanie, Ngozi, Robin, Brandy, and Micky were incredible. Each one offered something different--a different perspective, unique words of wisdom, helpful hints--but were all equally great.
This postpartum period was remarkably difficult for me. I've never felt so awful in my life. The doulas helped me in a practical sense (someone else to coax my son to sleep! I could take a long shower and a nap!), but more importantly, helped me to feel supported. In my lowest moments, I knew I only needed to tough it out until the next doula arrived.
The doulas helped me to be a better mom to my daughter and son and a better wife for my husband. A lifelong extrovert isolated on leave, I had the best time just talking to them. Their presence helped my husband return to work for his school year without worrying about my son and me at home. They were so kind to our animals! Our dog and kitties were very excited each time a doula walked through the door.
Heather's team helped everyone who loves us and was worried about us. My dad's mother had a friend who committed suicide as a result of postpartum depression. The doulas' presence gave him great comfort these past few months.
Anyone who could assemble such a wonderful team clearly is at the top of her game.
When I developed post partum pre eclampsia and ended up in the ICU three days after giving birth, it was an extremely frightening and stressful time for our family. Heather and her team of doulas came to our rescue, providing the very best care for our newborn and much needed peace of mind for us. We are beyond grateful to Heather not only for arranging everything at a moment's notice, but also for providing the most competent and compassionate doulas imaginable. We happily and readily recommend Heather and her team to anyone considering doula services!
Heather & her group of doulas were an absolute godsend after the birth of our preemie twins. Heather went above and beyond, out of her way to make sure we have nighttime coverage (over Christmas & New Years holidays no less) for a few months. She and her girls were so nurturing, sweet, knowledgeable, reliable, attentive (I could go on), and we could finally sleep soundly knowing our babies were so well cared for. Ngozi came most nights & I feel developed a special bond with our babies- I loved hearing all about the little things they were doing at night (Scarlett being a wild woman and moving all night long & Robbie, the little charmer, always trying to smile and coo instead of eating & going back to bed!) & the progress they were making from night to night/week to week. Heather was so sweet and always supportive of the decisions I was making as a mother and encouraged me to trust my instincts and intuition when facing all of the challenges that new motherhood brings! The babies are now big enough and sleeping through the night, but we miss seeing all these wonderful women & are forever grateful for the support they provided!
My husband and I moved up here 6 years ago and it was an extremely tough adjustment. At the time I had my one year old daughter. We knew we wanted more kids, but we were also scared. Having a child requires any and all help. Especially in the first 6-8 weeks. I come from a huge family where help is always available. I proceeded to get pregnant with our second child and being that I'm from Florida I did not have help available like before. It took its toll on me. I was exhausted stressed depressed and just overwhelmed. With my third pregnancy my husband and I were both scared of what I would suffer through. It became obvious when our third son was born that I needed help. I contacted a doula I knew and asked if she knew of a baby doula or nurse that was available. Se gave me a strong referral and I contacted heather who was nothing short of wonderful. she was a "mom" through and through. we hired her services and were thrilled with thup communication level. They text!!! I met three different women Marian, Michelle, and Robin. I fell in love with every single one. They came to my house at 10pm and would leave at 6am. Every single woman offered me peace of mind , comfort, and best of all rest. The women were super knowledgeable . They are so kind sweet and understanding when you need it most. And trust me any mom knows what I mean and what you crave after giving birth, these woman gave it all! I can tell you these woman became like family. They offered to clean my fridge or do laundry! On my last day with Michelle and then Robin I was so sad. I had come to love them and want their presence. If you are in mom in need of any post pregnancy help, newborn help you need to call Heather. She is attenfive and perceptive and super experienced. Feel free to contact me for any additional questions! XO ladies. Miss you. I'm still so grateful!
Heather helped me and my wife find day and night doulas for after the birth of our daughter Lia. At night we mostly had Michelle (one night we had Jill who was great too) who we love. She would show up around 10pm, leave around 7am, and basically give me (dad) a chance to sleep. I really needed it because little Lia had some health issues and we spent a few days in the NICU with basically no sleep. We then spent another few days in the hospital for some serious post-labor issues that my wife had. All in all, sleep was even more at a premium than it normally would be postpartum. Michells was an absolute pro and took care of my wife and Lia quite well. Basically, she would stay with Lia while my wife slept. When it was time to feed, Michelle would change Lia's diaper, bring her to my wife, help her feed, and then would take Lia away to sooth back to sleep. This let my wife sleep as much as possible, something she desperatly needed following all the hospital stays.
During the day Marian helped us. She took care of laundry, ran some errands, did some cleaning, and even cooked a bit. More importantly, she was there with my wife while she was breastfeeding. Marian provided plenty of good tips to help my wife and really took some of the burden off of me.
We are grateful for all this help and can't imagine how we would have gotten through the first 2 weeks of Lia's life with the doulas. Thank you!
