Martha was so helpful to me as our family as we adjusted to life with a new baby and three kids under four. Martha is confident and capable in caring for newborns, toddlers, and parents alike and that is exactly the kind of help we needed. She would arrive to our home early and make my toddlers breakfast, get them dressed, and play with them, do laundry, dishes and general clean-up so that my newborn and I could sleep. When we woke up, she helped with newborn care as well so I could shower, eat breakfast/lunch that she had prepared for me, or rest. It was such a gift to have an extra set of hands and know that my toddlers were in good hands, having fun, and being fed so I could get some rest. My oldest still asks when Ms. Martha is coming back to play with her :) Martha is adaptable, confident and able to jump right into any task or situation that may be required to help out with what might be necessary on that given day. When recovering from childbirth, having someone hand me an already made meal, bring me water, go upstairs to do laundry, play with and make meals for my big kids- and dozens of other 'small' tasks, amount to a HUGE difference. My husband and I are so thankful for Martha and the way she helped and served our family in what was a fairly chaotic time. Whether a first-time mom or an experienced mom with somewhat different needs, Martha can confidently and skillfully jump into whatever role you might need her for and I would very much recommend her to other moms.
Martha came to our house when we were deep in the thick of new parenthood. She was thoughtful, a great listener, funny, and helped us think of solutions for the new issues coming up in our lives (lots of visitors, sleeping and not sleeping, disposable versus cloth diapers, etc.) She helped us come up with a roadmap for those first few steps in our long journey. I very strongly recommend her doula services!
Martha’s knowledge and baby whispering skills are extensive and outstanding. She has been my go to and is available at all hours to help me in a crisis or give great advice to a simple question.
After having my first at 42, I quickly realized all of my friends are well beyond the infant stage and I was on my own. And frankly people say they want to help, but really they just want to come hold the baby and chat when you are exhausted. Not helpful.
Martha immediately came to the rescue. One of these best things about Martha is she’s so great at “this is normal,” “this is a phase” “all babies go through this,” or “it’s time to call your pediatrician” when you have no reference point. She becomes the reference point. She got my daughter to baby wear when others had failed, drink from a bottle when no one else could, she got us through sleep regression and sleep training, I could go on, but she has been the most important resource we have had for the last eight months. She is calm and loving, and our daughter thinks she’s hysterical.
And the big one for me, she’s not super cheerleader perky positive make me want to gouge my eyes out sugary sweet that you get when you interview other doulas. That was the last thing I wanted when I came home with our daughter. She’s just a calm, positive, super intelligent, non-pandering presence. You’ll love her!
Martha was invaluable after the birth of my baby. I didn’t know how much I would need her; she supported and guided us in so many ways during a deeply difficult postpartum time. Her emotional, physical, and informational help was so caring and empowering. I would highly recommend her to anyone. I’ve already told pregnant friends about her!
