If you are considering getting a doula, (and you should) Aly is excellent! I'm so thankful Aly attended our birth and helped it go quickly, decreased my pain, supported my husband in ways to help and encouraged me all along the way. This was my second birth and my previous doula was no longer practicing. I was a little nervous since Aly wasn't my first doula, but she quickly showed us she knew what she was talking about with birth. She gave us exercises to do to help me relax and prepare for labor.
She went with us to the hospital when I wasn't feeling baby kick before he was born and helped keep me calm and assess my options. She did a great job while I was in pre-labor of letting my husband and I be aware of the options we had and giving ideas to keep labor moving along.
Once I was in active labor she helped keep me moving and labor progressing with different exercises and positions. She was a calming presence supporting my husband and I and kept us focusing on each other and our baby. She took the back seat, but supported me all along the way. The different positions she had me do, helped decrease the pain and keep labor moving along. She was always positive and helped me make choices to have the natural birth I desired. Plus it was important to me to have worship music playing and I could hear her softly singing along at times. I would highly recommend her!
Aly is the best! She was an advocate as well as a voice of comfort. Aly knew our birth better than we did and was well prepared for the delivery. She made sure that we had everything that we could need in order to be successfu in our vbac journey. Aly prepared us prior to and then at the time of reminded me that I could say no, and defer treatment that was not emergent. The vbac was healing and empowering and we could not have done it without her guidance and expertise!
Aly was my doula during my VBAC in March. She was so encouraging during my pregnancy, and never doubted my ability to have a vaginal birth after cesarean. Leading up to my birth, I had a lot of prodromal labor, and Aly was always a text away to help encourage me and help me laugh when I was overwhelmed and answer all of my zillion questions. When I finally went into labor, she came to my home and supported me and my husband through early labor, talking to and guiding us through techniques to make labor more bearable. She was very in tune with me and was able to suggest and implement many things that helped me relax and work through each contraction. She and my husband did many a hip squeeze and back massage, both at my home and once we decided it was time to go to the hospital. When the time came for me to give birth, she continued to be in tune with my needs and wants which allowed me to focus on birthing my baby. I was amazed at her strength and dedication to making my birth exactly what I wanted and what we needed after our first traumatic birth experience. I don’t plan on having any more biological children, but if I did, I would absolutely have Aly there again. Anyone would be lucky to have her as their doula, but I felt especially blessed because she understood my fears and hopes, as she herself is a c-section and VBAC mother.
