It was wonderful working with Hannah! She made herself very available and listened closely to my needs. I could tell she would be accommodating and helpful as soon as I met her, because she stood with me for our whole interview so I would be able to watch my older two children while we talked. She met me at the hospital twice- once for a false alarm and again the next day for the real thing. Hannah’s style is unobtrusive, so she takes what she knows from talking with you, then waits and watches and listens during labor to see how she can best help. She did not try to take over or interfere with any medical procedures, or try to change my mind about aspects of my birth that I had decided on. She was encouraging and willing to go with the flow. At my postpartum visit she allowed me to process my birth in the way that I needed to by listening as I relived the experience. I would definitely hire her again.
I don’t even know where to begin!! Hannah met with me while I was pregnant and we talked about birth preferences and brought up great points for me to research on my own for our birth. She then met at our house with both me and my husband and we got to really dig into the finer points of what we wanted and needed from her during the birth. We wanted a natural water birth and were so excited for it! However, my body had other plans and I developed severe preeclampsia at 31 weeks. It became an emergency situation with the hospital staff and my midwife trying to stabilize me long enough to get lung boosting shots for our sweet tiny girl. During our hospital stay, Hannah was right there with us. She helped with physical things like ordering food, making sure my husband was doing ok during the chaos but most of all she brought peace and calm to a birth that wasn’t what we planned out at all. She took it in stride and helped in a way that we could never repay her. She brought cool cloths for my forehead since my body was running hot on the magnesium drip, she prayed over me and declared the promise that this baby was and how she will be healthy even when I started to get frustrated and was crying! After the emergency csection, Hannah came to my room and encouraged me even more...as our doula, Hannah gave us so much and she even wrote out our birth story for us. It was beautiful. Even though it wasn’t what we planned or wrote down as our birth preference, she showed up, rolled up her sleeves and was in it for us and for our baby. Her passion for birth and the peace and safety for me is something I treasure and we highly recommend her!
