I am not sure where to begin when it comes to expressing my experience as a first time mother contemplating a Doula. I went back and forth on whether or not I should hire one and did several interviews with Doulas that just hadn't convinced me that they were worthy of my money or experiencing child birth with but when I finally met with Bria I knew instantly that she was exactly who I was looking for. Intially my family thought I was crazy for even considering a Doula but Bria was more than just my Doula, she became a friend of the family. My parents absolutely adore her especially with her being a Mississippi native and my daughter's father thought Bria and I had been long time friends because it was never a dull moment when we met. Bria took the time to make personal home visits to prepare my family and I for my daughter's birth, educated us on birth and postpartum preparation, and most importantly relieved me of my fear of giving birth. I went into labor confidently thanks to Bria and although my birth plan did not go as expected I have no regrets of having Bria by my side before, during and after labor. I am beyond thankful that Bria kept me at peace mentally because many people do not understand the emotions mothers to be endure. After bringing our daughter home Bria did not just abandon us, she also made house visits with helpful advice, essential homemade body creams, and bearing gifts that I will cherish forever. I can go on forever and a day about Bria but I'll just end by saying her genuine spirit won me and I'll forever be grateful that I made the decision to have her as our family's doula.
We hired Bria for the birth of our first baby. Throughout the process her energy alone gave me a sense of calm in the weeks leading up to my birth. Even my family raves about her after my birth. Her voice is calming and she jived with everyone she came in contact with. She was very open to everything we wanted and I was very confident going into my birth with Bria by my side. I didn’t get the natural birth I had hoped for from the start due to my own medical history and hospital policies, but Bria was there every step of the way encouraging me and making sure I advocated for what I could control. I labored for over 24 hours with her help and honestly, I felt SO strong the whole time because I had so many tools provided by Bria. She listened to me when I needed to try something else or if I didn’t want to try something and everything flowed. If my baby’s position would have been able to be corrected, I know I could have finished strong, but circumstances out of anyone’s control led me go a c-section. After coaching and supporting me for so long, she stayed with my family and waited to make sure the baby and I were okay and that I was able to nurse. She was such a trooper through my long labor. I know I couldn’t have done it without her, even though she says otherwise because she believes we are all strong and can do what our bodies were made to do! If I am still in this area when I have my next child, I’ll definitely be hiring Bria again and would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone.
Bria was an intergral and much appreciated part of my pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum care. I credit her attention and support with the quick progress of my labor. She knew when to let me rest, and most importantly, when to push me to get up and change positions. Her guidance helped me move through labor as effectively as possible. She helped me maintain my confidence and calm when labor became intense, and she gave me physical comfort measures and showed my partner how to do the same.
A post-delivery complication made it necessary for me to transfer to the hospital via ambulance. Bria transitioned into supporting my family through the next few hours, which were possibly the scariest and most stressful of their lives. Bria assisted in logistical needs, and most importantly, she gave much needed emotional support to my parents and partner while I was in the operating room. She helped hold everyone together through a situation none of us wanted or predicted.
She always honored and respected the power and intuition of my body, and although my child passed through my body, Bria, and the rest of my birth team, delivered him into the world.
I cannot appreciate Bria enough for her work as our birth doula. She was crucial to my partner's home birth story. Her presence before, during, and after birth was very supportive, calming, and confident. Bria paid attention to our needs. During labor, she guided me in comforting and aiding my partner. Most importantly Bria helped move along her labor at a steady but mindful pace. My partner had complications after birth and we had to transfer to a hospital; an eventuality we did not welcome. Bria was with us all along. Looking back, I am just so glad Bria was present because she took care of the many small details. She was flexible. She was attentive. She was dependable.
