In a tumultuous last week of pregnancy, Meghan was a constant support. I’m so glad she was there to help us navigate the ups, downs, and unknowns when we found out at 38 weeks that our son was breech. All of the careful birth planning (which Meghan had wonderfully helped us think through!) was turned on its head as we tried several strategies to encourage our son to move into a better birth position. Meghan came alongside us, teaching us Spinning Babies positions and attending the external cephalic version (ECV) attempt both for moral support and in the chance of an ensuing emergency C-section. Her knowledge of the hospital, natural birth processes, and experience with a variety of birth stories equipped her to provide the unique support that we needed. As a first-time mom, Meghan’s support enabled me to walk through that chaotic week and approach my son’s birth with peace. She helped me prepare for the scheduled C-section when he didn’t turn and was there with me when I went into labor two days before the scheduled delivery date. She continued to offer support in the postpartum time as well, especially sensitive to how I was processing how different the c-section birth was from the birth story I’d hoped for. Her attentiveness and understanding helped me process in a healthy way.
We may not be able to control the many facets of our birth stories, but we can control who we have alongside us to support us whatever the birth journey holds. I am so glad I had Meghan’s support in my own journey.
Meghan was wonderful! She helped make the special day my daughter was born smooth and peaceful. Prior to induction day- we went over birth plan options and set up a plan that I was 100% happy with. She played a huge role in making this delivery far easier than my first (where I didn't have a doula). She's highly intuitive, so she was constantly ready to help with whatever challenges arose (much faster and more efficiently than my dear husband!) She showed me and my husband different relaxation techniques and positions to help with contractions. My only regret is that I didn't have her during the birth of my first child!
Meghan Hardy attended two of our births, in the last few years. We are looking forward to her role as a full-fledged doula at our third birth this spring!
I cannot imagine either birth scenario without her support and encouragement. With the first, she stayed awake with me and provided the support we needed for the entire time we were in labor and until we delivered via C-section. She was able to help with care during postpartum as well.
With our second birth, she once again supported us through labor, comfort measures, ensuring that dad was able to rest and stay fed and helped with our successful VBAC.
I highly recommend Meghan's doula support for any birth. She is passionate about mothers and evidence-based birthing. We will always be grateful for Meghan's support.
