I am so thankful for all of Miranda's support throughout my entire pregnancy and labour. From the very beginning, I could tell that her calming presence would make a good fit for me and I was right! Whenever I needed to talk, she would always provide thoughtful and supportive responses without any judgement. On the day i was going to be induced, Miranda kept in contact with me, I appreciated her giving the option of space if needed but also said to let her know when I was ready for her to come. She was there before my partner arrived as he was travelling back from his work site. As soon as she got there, I felt overwelmed with emotion as I knew the journey i had ahead and was relieved and happy to have her there with me. Both her and my partner made a great team throughout labour, she helped make me feel calm and safe. I appreciate the thought she put into comfort measures during labour, from the fake tealight candles to gatorade, it made a huge difference for me during labour. After delivery, she even helped me with trying to latch and reminded me that both me and baby were still learning and I really appreciated that. I am grateful for Miranda's presence, patience and support during my sacred journey of birthing my first child. I highly recommend her as a doula!
I am very grateful that my sister introduced me to Miranda to be my doula for the birth of my second daughter. Because I live in a remote First Nations community, I decided to travel to Vancouver for the last month of my pregnancy where I was able to receive care and support from my family doctor and also Miranda. She is a warm and compassionate woman that I felt comfortable with right away. Miranda was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with answering all my questions while I decided on my birth plan and afterwards when I experienced some difficulty nursing my daughter. She was always very accommodating when it came to meeting with and communicating with me which I really appreciated. Miranda met us at the hopsital on the morning of our daughter's birth and waited patiently while I delivered my baby. Afterwards, she visited with us and checked on the baby but also both my husband and I to see if we needed anything. I highly recommend Miranda as a doula if you are in search of someone to support you through this amazing process. She offers so much to mothers emotionally, spiritually, and educationally.
I found Miranda when my newborn was about 3 weeks old. I am a single mom and was desperate for some help in the evenings. I'd had an unfortunate experience with another doula so was a little nervous, but after speaking with Miranda on the phone, I knew she would be a great fit, and I knew my baby would be safe with her. Miranda helped me out immensely during the first few months (and still does!), lovingly caring for my baby girl and giving me the support I needed as a new mom. Her gentle, kind and loving approach is matched by her deep knowledge about babies. She gave me the reassurance and confidence that I needed, and offered tips and insights that were non judgmental and very helpful. I would (and will) recommend her to any new mom. My baby and I are lucky to have found her!
Working with Miranda is like being with your most wise, skillful and compassionate friend. She offers not only a deep knowledge of our medical system and the birthing process but also a calm, empowering and accepting presence.
Miranda never pushed an agenda, or communicated any judgement regarding my choices and preferences as I prepared for labour. Instead, she talked through the options and helped me practice coping techniques, leaving me feeling empowered.
Ultimately, I developed complications and required various medical interventions. Though this, Miranda was the only consistent professional available over many midwife, doctor and nurse shift changes. By text, phone and in person, she supported me as I adjusted to the unexpected challenges. She helped me process complicated and sometimes conflicting medical advice and provided hands-on support for my body and spirit.
Miranda fit in seamlessly with my family, supporting them as they supported me. She always knew the right moment to step in, or step back, when to follow my lead, and when to offer a suggestion.
After my daughter was born, I struggled with breastfeeding. Miranda helped me to believe that my body was resilient and offered advice and compassionate encouragement. Again, I never felt judged regarding how I fed my daughter. With her help, I was able to reach my breastfeeding goals.
I am immensely grateful that I had Miranda with me during this challenging and transformative experience. I recommend her so highly, and with no reservations.
I had the pleasure of having Miranda as both my labour doula and postpartum doula. She was a great support in the weeks leading up to my birth when I was sooo done with being pregnant- she texted and emailed me encouragements, information and ideas to cope with the discomfort of late pregnancy. Miranda was prompt to respond when I went into labour and came to my home when I needed her support. Throughout my intense labour and home birth she was a quiet and calm presence that kept my husband and I grounded. When we needed to make an urgent transfer to the hospital right after birth, she kindly put the chaos of our home after the birth back together so when we were discharged from the hospital we came home to our normal living state.
Around 2 months postpartum I need some support so I reached out to Miranda. She came to my home a couple times as a postpartum doula. Besides the practical help with laundry and holding my baby, Miranda also instilled hope that things won't always be like this. After one visit, my husband came home and said "I am so glad you had Miranda come over, it feels so calm in here".
I would definitely recommended Miranda as both a labour doula and a postpartum doula.
From the first meeting until the end of our contract, I was blown away by Miranda's care, knowledge and patience. When I met Miranda I felt an instant connection. I was a single woman, having a c-section, and I needed to make sure that I felt confident in my doula to help me through this challenging time. She understood what I was going through, and what I needed. Once I had the baby, Miranda came and held her while I showered, tidied and made phone calls. I felt at ease knowing that she was with my newborn, and it felt really good to take a break twice a week. Miranda also helped me to learn to use my breast pump and to put on the baby carrier. I was so grateful for everything she did for me.
Miranda was an amazing support for me as a new mom and as a single mom. She was grounded, present and helped me navigate first the birth, then the first night of my daughter's life and then so many things along the way in the first few months - latch / breastfeeding, baby carrying, stroller set up, pumping... So many things. She drawsom her personal experience, with her two daughters, her professional background, and her community’s traditions.
I can't imagine how much different my experience would have been without Miranda - I'd highly recommend her as a doula and post natal doula!
I found Miranda to be very patient and sweet while caring for myself and my 2 yr old and newborn.
She took to time to touch base with me first thing during the visit and was prompt to act on any requests I had.
Also, has great laundry folding skills!
The first word that comes to mind when I think of Miranda is Aunty. Miranda is caring, compassionate, understanding, thoughtful and knowledgeable. During the sacred time of pregnancy and delivery it can be stressful and having family around and support I feel is super important. That's how I felt Miranda fit in my world, just like family. She always had words of encouragement when I felt unsure and resources when I needed support postpartum. For my delivery I had a waterbirth at the hospital although I had a few supports, being a single mom she understood the challenges, emotional toll and impact it had on me not having a partner there. During delivery she was right by my side, the entire time. It was so comforting and needed. This being my first child I didnt know what to expect when it came to delivery. Being in the "zone" as I call it, I couldn't always express my needs, she knew what I needed even when I couldn't express it. I'm beyond greatful to have had her there during such an empowering and yet vulnerable time.
Having Miranda as my doula was an amazing experience. It was my last pregnancy but my first time having a doula. I wish I had used one before. She was very comforting. I felt like I could ask her anything. During labour she kept me focused and relaxed. I absolutely love Miranda. I highly recommend her.
Upon meeting Miranda her warmth, knowledge, and professionalism told me she was a good fit for me and my husband. During all our visits she always seemed at ease and took her time to answer all our questions. If ever she didn't know the answer to something she would follow up with a comprehensive email with the answers and more resources to help us educate ourselves. Prior to, and even after, labour she was always quick to answer our text messages or phone calls - we always felt in good hands! I highly recommend Miranda Kelly.
My husband and I have interviwed a few postpartum doulas as we had minimal family support for my first pregnancy and we instantly knew Miranda would fit well with us. She was ready to listen, calm and supportive from the begining. Her demeanor immediatly relieve me and lower my anxiety about birth and postpartum care.
Although I did not have c-section, I went through a surgery that required a lenghty care. My mom-in-law visited us to help, but extra help was necessary. Miranda was great as she knew how to help without conflicting with my family. When my family liked to take care of the baby, she was there to help me and house chores. When my family left, she was there to fully support me. She was very good with my son, so I could leave my son to her and nap if needed.
She also communicated well and always responded my messgaes and mails quickly. Without Miranda, I would have a harder time with my son as it is my first time. I am very glad I had her to support me and I would hire her again if I decide to have another child.
I am so grateful to have had Miranda's support as my doula for my first pregnancy. We initially planned to have a homebirth which she was very knowledgeable of and helped us prepare both ourselves and our home. I really valued being able to have contact with her in the weeks prior to the birth as I went 10 days overdue and found myself to be getting overwhelmed by both physical and emotional feelings towards the end of my pregnancy. Miranda always responded quickily to my questions and provided reassurance and empathy when I needed it most. During my labour she helped integrate different pain coping techniques to address my back labour. She made me feel supported and empowered in my decision to transfer to the hospital for an epidural, and stayed with my partner and I for the duration of my lengthy labour. Reflecting back on my labour, I feel that there are many instances which I am surprised that I didn't feel fearful. I believe that this is largely in part to having her warm, guiding presence by my side. Miranda was so responsive, warm, and my partner and I found her family centered approach to be just what we needed to feel confident and empowered throughout labour and the birth of our baby boy.
When we first heard about doulas we didn't understand why people would need one. After this experience, we can't imagine what the labor would have been like without one. Miranda was very informative and supportive on top of this we felt comforted by her presence. I felt very supported throughout this experience and I cannot thank her enough. Thanks again Miranda! If we ever have a second and Miranda is still offering her services we will definitely do it again no questions asked.
This is my first child and I have cared for babies before, but I didn’t have experience with caring for a newborn. I am grateful for my post-partum doula, Miranda Kelly. She provided me with the support I needed to get through the overwhelming first weeks. She brings her peaceful presence to my home, and rocks my son to sleep every time. She carries him, so that I could do some much needed self-care, like take a shower and even do my hair, or take a nap! She offers to help me tidy up and make me snacks, this is especially a treat, because being a new mom, it relieved some of the extra stress. We have had many good conversations when I have questions or feel unsure about the day to day things to do with caring for and soothing my baby. I am very thankful for Miranda's support and care for myself and my little family.
Miranda was a LIFESAVER for me when I was discharged from the hospital with my newborn twins! Miranda was calm, collected, knowledgeable, patient and a soothing presence for my girls (and me too lol!). She made taking care of twins look so easy. Not only did she help take care of the girls (feeding, changing diaspers, bathing, putting them down for naps, preparing formula, etc) as I recovered from my delivery, she provided helpful tips and suggestions for both my own recovery from a c section as well as newborn care, without pushing an agenda or overstepping. She also picked up items I needed from the grocery and pharmacy, and did additional research to provide information for questions that I asked, and pointed me to the relevant resources. I found that Miranda made a point of listening to what my needs were, understanding them, and then meeting and surpassing my expectations, also helping me to build my confidence with the twins. Overall, this experience was a huge help for me starting life at home with my newly expanded family. I highly recommend her services!
I found the time that Miranda spent with me and my new baby to be extremely valuable. She was extraordinarily comforting and reassuring. Her presence and energy always kept calm when I was frazzled and overwhelmed. Her knowledge helped get me through the tough times. When I was too tired to even ask for help, she just knew what to do and would help out without even being asked. As a new mom, the value and waking up from a nap to finding bottles cleaned and cloth diapers put away is immeasurable, and very appreciated. Miranda helped me adapt with my tendonitis and answered any questions that I had. She was very knowledgeable and very reassuring. She helped me find and settle into a routine as a new mom through encouragement, knowledge, and reassurance. I struggle with postpartum depression and am a highly anxious person in general. Miranda helped instill a calmness in me through her presence and energy. Being more calm and present for my baby is the greatest gift I can think of that anyone could give, and Miranda did just that. Without hesitation I would highly recommend her as a doula.
