As a first time mom I felt, to say the least, nervous. I also wanted to try to be as prepared as possible to give birth without an epidural so pain calming techniques were necessary. To have Malika by my side was one of the best decisions for me an my family. She was kind, caring and patient. She not only guided me but also my family. She took my many calls while  in labor at home and also assisted me with the pain at home and birth center/ hospital. She stayed by my side the whole labor and then gave us our time with our new baby. My husband and I are not religious but my family is, she was able to understand both sides perfectly. Malika guided me through the pain and also remained neutral, informative and helpful when i was deciding if i should go ahead with an epidural.

If you are looking for a doula who is going to hold your hand through the entire birthing process, Malika is your doula.

I am so grateful for having Malika during my birthing experience. We planned what I want my experience to be but as most births go, nothing went as plan.

I went in for my 37 week check up and my pressure was elevated. So it was time to deliver. Malik came to my side right away and did not leave until I went in for my unscheduled cesarian.

Her support was amazing. Having her by my side gave me comfort. I’m grateful to her and her services.

Malika Hodge was a gift to my family and I. I was a first time mom and she made my experince easy and pleasent.

She educated me about paying attention to my body. She cared about my comfortabilty during pain as far as how I like to be treated(touched, talked to etc...)when experiencing pain.

She was assertive with a calm supportive present which is what I wanted. If it wasn't for her and my partner being a strong voice for me, I probably would have been pressured by the ob/gyn to have a c-section due to exhaustion with labor and scare tactics she used. Malika politely and assertively, along with my partner, asked the ob/gyn to give us a moment to speak. Her energy and words reminded to be strong and that I was in charge. She constantly reminded me to breath properly which I was forgeting to do most of the time. Who would of thought you'd forget to breath when you're in so much pain?

After giving birthing, Malika checked on me to makue sure I was taking care of myself emotionally and physically. She educated and reminded me about the importatns of postpartum depression, blood clots and much more. It was easy talking to her because she truly cares about her work. The conversation were respectful and not forceful and that was very important to me.

I highly recommend Miss Hodge because she is respectfull, intelligent, dependable, puntcual, communicative, empathatic, assertive and just an all around great person. My time with her has been nothing but great memories. She was a great match for my family and I!

I am forever indebted to her and Ancient Doula for this experience.

Thank you,

Love Liz and Baby Ella

Malika assisted me with the birth of my second child and was my first experience with hiring a doula. I cannot say enough positive things about Malika and the service she provided. She listened intently to my wants and needs and ultimately helped me have a positive, joyful, and reaffirming birthing experience. With her help, I overcame the trauma of my first birth, which ended in an emergency cesarean. She assisted me in achieving my goal of having an un-medicated VBAC, with minimal interventions. Malika was calm and collected in the face of a rude doctor and helped me communicate my needs to the nursing staff. I am so thankful to have had her by my side through my labor and delivery. She is clearly passionate about preserving the rights and dignity of birthing people, I cannot recommend her services enough!

First, I would like to emphasize that my birth story would have been a lot more difficult and painful without the help of doula Malika Hodge. When I tell you she was Godsent it’s quite an understatement. Malika was extremely knowledgeable and available during my pregnancy and even after labor and delivery. She provided constant support to us during labor with counter pressure massages, helped me find positions that would better facilitate the birth process and she was super encouraging when labor stalled and helped me make very difficult decisions. She also made sure that the doctors and nurses took very good care of us by asking the right questions and asking for more time when pressure was present. She provided helpful tips and information when I needed guidance and helped both my husband and I welcome our son Leonidas into the world. We are grateful and forever indebted to her! I highly recommend her and would want her to yet again, be a part of our journey if we were to decide to have another baby.
