We are grateful for Amanda.

As a doula, she became a friend, advisor, advocate, and comfort through our entire process. Amanda helped us have the best possible birth experience, keeping us in the driver’s seat and helping us think through decisions both ahead of time and in the moment.

She is well informed and experienced, thus providing us a sense of security. She was extremely responsive, responding to questions and meeting with us several times throughout our journey. She has so much to offer – techniques to aid labor and delivery, wisdom from experience and her training, and resources to educate us about labor/the body/being new parents. At every step of the way she improved our preparedness and comfort to move forward.

However, the most defining aspect of Amanda is her relaxed demeanor. She is calm and fun. Her disposition makes her 1) easy to work with and 2) an anchor during an intense time. Her easy-going presence provides comfort when labor and delivery are not. She is sociable and fun - like a longtime friend – it is just easy to get along well with her.

Her vast knowledge and collaborative approach to create the birth that you want and to follow your plan is complimented by her calm and enjoyable personality. She is responsive and thoughtful – she works well with others (us, medical staff, friends and family we introduced her to, etc.) and can help provide direction when you are in need.

Amanda played a large part in helping us achieve the birth experience we wanted. She will forever be fondly remembered when we think about our experience and birth of our first child.

I contacted Amanda while my husband was away on a deployment. We hoped he would be home in time but you can never know for sure. Either way I knew I wanted an all natural birth and having a doula gave me peace of mind knowing there would be another person at the birth advocating for and supporting my wishes. Amanda is a wealth of knowledge on all the local birhting, postpartum and support resources.  She was a great support throughout my pregnancy and when labor finnally started she was wonderful! She is encouaging, calm, reassuring, experienced and it was great having a second person there to help me through the contractions. I am so thankful for how well my birth went and for Amanda's awesome support. She is also very helpful and supportive after birth and post-partum with recovery and breastfeeding. I definitly recommend Amanda to all my friends looking for a doula!

Amanda was a blessing to me and my husband at the birth of our son. It was the first child for us and neither of us had any birth experience. Amanda was very knowledgeable and gave us the information we needed to be able to make the best decisions regarding the birth. She supported and assisted us with all the decisions we made. She went above and beyond her duties. We highly recommended Amanda.

Having Amanda by our side during my last trimester and during birth was amazing. She continually fed us support and knowledge to get us through becoming first time parents! She will work with how you want your ideal birth to go, she will be available every step of the way, and helped ease my husband during delivery. She is patient, empathetic, and someone I look up to as a mother. Hiring her definitely eased a lot of our unknowns. She provided educational materials and more during the entire process.

Amanda Winn was absolutely wonderful as my doula at baby Peter's birth in January. This was my fourth baby, and first time having a doula. She definitely made a difference; I did not feel alone in my pain this time. She is very calm and gentle, kind and encouraging. She and my midwife made a great team. I am so very thankful for her.

Amanda was my Doula for my second birthing. I chose her because she is Hypnobabies certified and I planned to use that method during my child's birth. I knew exactly what I wanted from her, for my pregnancy and for our birthing, so my requests of her were specific. She was fine with this scenario. She listened to my wishes and supported them, offering advice and help where she thought I might want it and benefit from it. Her intuition was good. She it was time for the birth, she came when we called her (It was about 5am), and was with us for the birth, as well as staying with me for several hours afterward. During the birth, her voice was calming and she seemed to know just the right thing to say to me.

My husband and I chose to pursue a doula for the birth of our first child so I could increase the chances of achieving the natural birth I desired. The first time we met Amanda we knew she would be a great fit. Her down to earth and calming personality, professionalism, confidence, and experience were just what my husband and I needed to achieve our perfect birth. She coached my husband through how to help manage my pain and when he needed rest she stepped in without hesitation. She assisted me with the all important initial breastfeeding, offered advice, documented our experience, and most of all provided continuous encouragement during my “marathon” labor. Thank you Amanda for all of your caring actions! We are so thankful to have had you be such an integral part of the birth of our little girl!

The role of the doula is more than a support person during labor and delivery.  Amanda not only offered amazing support during my unmedicated labor and delivery, but she was available throughout my pregnancy and even after I had the baby.  Amanda and I discussed my birth wishes and any concerns I had before the "big day".  She shared vairous pain managment techniques that did not involve drugs, but she also shared with me what my options for medication at the hospital would be.  During labor and delivery Amanda supported me by holding my hand, talking me through contractions with visualization, and most importantly gave me lots of water to drink!  :-)  These were techniques that brought me the most comfort during my labor and delivery; however, this is not all Amanda suggested to me.  While my husband was with my baby in the nursery for her bath, Amanda stayed in my room while I took a shower and made sure I had everything I needed in my room.  I know that I could not have had the birth I wished for without Amanda.  She truly is a natural in her role as a doula.  I highly recommend Amanda to anyone looking for an amazing doula.

I have no problem recommending Amanda Winn to others for her doula services. She is very professional, knowledgeable, warm and personable. I'm a military spouse and I moved to Virginia at 8 months pregnant. Amanda was sincerely helpful to me in providing me with information about transitioning with my medical insurance, the area hospitals, and cost of all, she gave me and my husband the support we needed during our labor and delivery. I didn't receive an epidural and I was active in labor for only 3 hours in comparison to my first labor and delivery of 23 hours. Amanda was truly a blessing to us and I look forward to her services for my next baby.

Amanda was a wonderful doula for the birth of my second child, Thomas.  She met with my husband and I a couple times before the birth to find out our preferences and to explain the services she provides.  She also followed up with us after the birth.  She was extremely flexible with supporting our birth, given my water broke over two days before my son was born!  Amanda made herself available from the start of my labor through the arrival of my son and intiating breast feeding.  She provided encouraging words, helpful massage when I asked, was quite literally a person to lean on during the pain of contractions, and she served as a sounding board when I had to make tough decisions under duress.  Birth is a messy business yet she helped make it the most wonderful experience it could be for me.  I highly recommend Amanda as a birth doula.

Having Amanda as my Doula for my second child was a GREAT experience! Once again, as with my first, I was induced- but this time I wanted to try to get through a longer length of time without any pain medication or epidural if possible. I believe that it was because of Amanda's help and her constant encouragement that enabled me to make it almost the whole way without anything. I did end up choosing to have the epidural-but was so far along that it never did set in fully before I felt the urge to push. And even being able to get that far- I know it's because of the support of Amanda. She was able to help me and my husband work through contractions and her suggestions with sitting on a birth ball or standing some I'm sure were what helped this labor move along so quickly. She met us first thing that morning and stayed until after baby and I were settled into my room. Thank you so much Amanda for being such a wonderful help to us!

Amanda was a friend of mine before becoming a doula and since I've known her, she has always had a very patient and calm personality. She manages being a Marine wife,  a mother of two, a volunteer in the community and a doula with ease. Part of the reason I chose Amanda to be my doula was because of her calmness and her ability to manage her life in such an admirable way.
The other reason why I chose Amanda to be my doula was because I was having my first natural birth and I was SCARED. I think my husband was scared as well and both of us felt like we needed someone to give us tips- beyond the birthing classes we took.  After our first meeting with Amanda, we left with confidence, knowing we can really do this and feeling like everything was "in control." I called Amanda a few times before I gave birth for advice and every time she delivered some of the best advice on labor I have ever heard.
Throughout my labor, Amanda helped my husband use techniques that I wouldn't have even thought of and as a team, they really helped me get through the pain. She was very in tune with what was working for me and encouraged me to keep doing what made me feel comfortable. My labor was low stress because I knew I had someone by my side that was going to advocate for what I needed. I think men have a hard time seeing their wives' in pain and have a hard time anticipating what their wife may need. It was nice to have Amanda, a woman who has had two children herself, to be there to anticipate what I needed and to give me praise and encouragement when I thought I couldn't labor anymore! I was a little apprehensive about using a doula but after this experience I plan to use a doula (hopefully Amanda) again if I am blessed to have another child. Thank you Amanda!
