Phyllis is an amazing doula. I met her at 37 weeks pregnant. At the time I didn’t know when I was going to deliver, where, if anyone else was going to be there, or if it would be a natural VBAC or Cesarean birth. She took me on and was willing to help regardless.
Before the birth, she’d check in on me every couple of days. Helped me work through fears and decisions. She also had resources and tips available when I needed them.
It did end up being a (last minute) scheduled cesarean. I was full of fear and she worked hard that day trying to keep me relaxed. The surgery kept getting pushed back, so there were several hours where she used her tricks (massage, aromatherapy, music, etc.) to keep me comfortable and focused.
She was with me during the surgery where I panicked…badly. The last thing I remember is sobbing and trying to go home while she hugged me and was telling me how good I was doing. I can't even describe how much it comforted me to have her there. I woke up later to a baby and she helped us nurse immediately.
Follow up included some amazing photos and a great birth story. I’ll be forever grateful for how much Phyllis helped me through a difficult experience. I’d recommend her to anyone, no matter what type of birth they have planned.
Phyllis helped me to deliver my first baby and she was fantastic! I wanted an intervention free delivery and she was so respectful and encouraging of this process. Throughout my time with her I felt so heard and respected, which was so empowering! During the actual delivery Phyllis was so supportive of my husband and I. She recommended different ways for my husband to support me as well as giving him reprieve. From before delivery to our postpartum care she was truly amazing. In addition to the emotional and physical support, she also acted as a pillar for spiritual support offering prayers and Biblical truth to me when I passed my due date and became uneasy. At our postpartum visit she also gifted us with a birth story and it was so beautiful ?? I would highly recommend her to be your doula! Should I have another baby I know I will be praying she’s available ??
She as a lovely companion who was able to emotionally support myself, and my husband who would easily stress about adding to the family, and who worried about his wife going through so much pain un-medicated. We have both said time and time again that the labor process went so smoothly because Phyllis was there to help us every step of the way.
On the big day she was at our home in no time at all, was able to help me breath through contractions and drove me to the hospital safely. My daughter was able to take turns and help message and breath with me in the hospital, as instructed by her Auntie Doula, and after many hours and many positions and Phyllis making sure all my needs and wants were met, we were able to deliver a healthy baby boy, vaginally, without medication.
Phyllis was even able to capture everything on camera, which was a surprise bonus! Im sure there are a hunded things that I am forgetting, but any expecting mother would be so BLESSED to have Phyllis as their doula. She is so loved and will never be forgotten! Thank you Auntie Doula!
My experience with Phyllis was absolutely and positively magical and I could not have picked a better doula to assist me through my pregnancy and labor. Not only was she knowledgeable, equipped with technique books and all of the supplies that any mother could ask for, but she really CARES for me and my children.
From the first moment of contact she was so open and friendly and giving of her time, meeting my husband and I at a lovely café in order to discuss what doulas were and how they could help mothers throughout the pregnancy. She was comfortable with working in hospitals and in homes, which was a major plus, and was even open to questioning from both me, my husband and our 3yr old daughter (who absolutely adores Phyllis and has nicknamed her “Auntie Doula”).
During our initial home visit Phyllis brought a special gift just for me, for relaxation. We kept in very close contact via phone calls and text messaging throughout my pregnancy and she would email many articles and loan out her own personal books in order for me to prepare for the upcoming labor. When she made home visits, it was to check on me, mentally and emotionally as well as hearing me blabber about everything from the daily nothings, to baby check ups.
Then she would give a wonderful message or teach my husband a new technique on how to help me through labor (exercise ball, rebozo, etc) .
