Relevant volunteer or advocacy work

Hi there! I began my birth journey in 2009. I was asked to attend to a woman laboring alone at the town clinic while volunteering in Kenya. I had never witnessed a birth before that day and was completely awed by the experience. My heart aches when I think about what I know now, and how many women around the world labor with fear because of a lack of education and support. A few years later my husband and I were living in South East Asia. During our time there, I found that God lead me back to women’s health and birth education again. I worked in women’s fitness and health assisting young women coming out of human trafficking. I also had the honor of walking alongside my sister-in-law’s home birth there as well. Both of these experiences drove my desire to teach and support women’s knowledge of health even more. It was after these experiences, that I knew I had found my calling. With the plan to move back to the U.S. in 2013, I started studying and completed my Doula training through DONA International. I am so thankful that I was immersed in education on birth, for it led me to my home birth with our first son then my second home birth with our youngest. Over 6 years I have continued in the birth community serving as a Birth Doula here in the Fox Valley Area until becoming a Childbirth Educator through Birth Arts International. I have such a love and passion for women through pregnancy and childbirth. I hope that in my work I am able to educate, empower, and change the way women look at birth for the better. My heart overflows with gratitude and joy for the opportunity to be a part of births and growing families. It is truly a humbling job of serving. Thank you for considering to allow me to be a part of your birth journey. May you Bloom!
