Doula Training

  • DONA International-Approved Workshop, February 2017

Type of practice: Partnership with 2 or more doulas

Clients per month: 0 to 4 births and 0 to 5 postpartum families

Postpartum limits/restrictions: Our society is good at a lot of things, but taking care of new parents isn't one of them. Postpartum doula services fill the gap between the intensive care and attention you receive leading up to birth, and when you start to feel comfortable (both physically and mentally) in your new role as parent to your little one. As your postpartum doula, I am here to hold space for you as you heal, assist with baby care, and overall lend an extra set of hands and a sympathetic ear to you and yours during this stage of life.

Attends hospital births? All Hospitals
My early professional experience was earned as a volunteer Doula on staff at St. Joseph's Hospital. I am very comfortable in a hospital environment.

Attends birth center births? All Birth Centers
I took my DONA Birth Doula Training course at The Birthing Inn in Tacoma and have positive personal experience with Birth Center births.

Attends home births? Any Home Birth
My last three babies were born at home and I always look forward to supporting other birthing people in the comfort of their own homes.

Antonia was a wonderful doula for myself and my family from start to finish. I felt comfortable with her even in the first moments of interviewing her, as she not only answered all of my questions with knowledgable sincerity but provided candor along the way. I think I knew we would work well together when she described herself in a delivery environment as 'emphatically not stoic'. After our first two meetings in which my husband and myself were fairly grounded in what to expect and shown a number of techniques to help me in the delivery room, my son ended up being born by emergency C-section about a month early. Antonia was one of the first people that my husband called because he knew that even if the delivery was more out of my hands than I would have preferred, that nothing would have helped me more than to have a birth partner in the room advocating for me. Although I cannot speak to the quality of doula in a more typical delivery room that I have no doubt that Antonia is, I can only say that if she is even half as calming, helpful, and empathy-driven when your labor is a month early and has nothing in common with your birth plan, then I can only imagine the skill and compassion she could bring to any other birthing story.

We loved Anotonia! We felt so lucky to have her as part of our birth experience. She fit us in relatively late in the game and really made sure we were as prepared as possible for our birth. Both of us felt well-supported by her and her expertise was incredibly helpful. I felt really good rapport with her from the beginning, like I was texting and asking questions of an old friend. There was nothing that could have been better about the birth, it was an amazing experience. If we decide to have a second child, we hope Antonia is part of it!

We hired Antonia to assist with the birth of our second child. We hired her in June and delivered the baby in October. Antonia made herself available for any questions we had. She took the time to understand our past birthing experience and helped guide us to the right support for anything we needed. She made great recommendations for exercises and positioning activities we could do to prepare. We didn't have a strong network of support being new to the area, but after hiring Antonia we were in great shape! When it came time to deliver the baby, she arrived promptly and helped with exercises to get labor moving along as well as being a patient ear while I fretted about my induction. She was a calming presence during a hectic time and I couldn't imagine doing this without her! Antonia is a gifted doula and warm, loving person who genuinely cares for your well being. I highly recommend her services.

I hired Antonia for the birth of my second baby. She was so easy to talk with and so unassuming that I knew right away that I could stop my doula search. I wanted her helping me through our birth. I was planning a natural birth in April 2020 at a midwifery birthing center. When covid ramped up in March and much about the virus was still unknown, amidst recommendations by ACOG that mothers might be quarantined from their newborns for two weeks if positive, I found a homebirth midwife at 37 weeks and didn't look back. Antonia was right there with me encouraging me which I really needed.

My experience with Antonia was fantastic. She guided my through active labor up until birth while midwives readied the birth tub and supplies. I only wish I'd had her at my first birth. I highly recommend Antonia and hiring a doula for your birth. This was my last birth but if I had another I wouldn't do it without a doula and I'd want Antonia as my advocate again.

Antonia is an incredible doula. She is knowledgeable, experienced, kind, savvy, professional, and just a stand-out human being. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted a doula - after we met, I knew she was the one for our family. And I'm so glad she was there for us during my pandemic pregnancy and delivery. Antonia provided extremely useful resources and tools that helped us before, during, and after delivery. She navigated COVID challenges with grace and flexibility. She is kind, caring, and thoughtful: I felt supported throughout. I was extremely impressed with her skills and the ways she worked with hospital staff during delivery. My spouse and I were so grateful to have her, and I know I had a better delivery experience because she was there. Highly recommend!

Working with Antonia was wonderful! As a third-time mom and a huge birth nerd myself, I couldn't have predicted how much I would lean on her expertise throughout my pregnancy, labor and birth, and first couple of postpartum weeks. I am so glad that I had her in my corner to support me, because I can't imagine how I would have done it without her.
Her whole approach was so special and there's not one thing that I want to point out, because SHE was the magical key ingredient that I needed at that time. I am so grateful for Antonia! ??

Having Antonia as our doula was one of the best decisions my husband and I could have made. My husband didn’t feel confident that he could support my desire to have a minimally medicated birth and I knew I would feel better if we had an extra support person to ensure that he could get a break when he needed. From the start, Antonia was extremely helpful with providing non biased resources to help us make decisions.

Our birth story ended up being an unexpected c-section and our situation was one that Antonia had never experienced herself but she was extremely professional and supportive. It was the middle of the night and I was a complete crying mess but Antonia helped get me refocused and talked me through everything I was feeling. Having her there to talk through things with was invaluable. Once the procedure was done and my newborn son and I were back in the recovery room, I was so glad Antonia was there to encourage skin-to-skin and help me try to get him breastfeeding as soon as possible.

Antonia came for the postpartum visit after about 2 weeks and I was so impressed with all of the resources that she provided. We thought things were going pretty well but she recognized some things that could be going better and gave us some people to contact who were all fantastic. Everyone that she referred us to had nothing but good things to say about her.

We would highly reccomend Antonia to anyone considering a doula!

Antonia helped us through the birth of our first child by making us feel prepared, supporting us, and by being our advocate during the birth of our child.

Our wish was to have the most natural labor as possible at a hospital. We are both into conducting research. Statistically, births where a doula is present have significantly less cesarians, forceps/vacuum extractions, and other procedures that stray from a natural birth. This, along with sense of feeling overwhelmed (first child--the big unknown!) led us to Antonia.

We were late on reaching out (~36th week) and she accommodated us by fast-tracking our sessions. These sessions were awesome: we learned a lot about what to expect and felt more confident. Before birth, she checked in with us often. We were able to ask questions that helped us know when it was the right time to go to the hospital. As a volunteer doula at St. Joseph's, our hospital, Antonia knows her way around.

When it was time to head to the hospital, Antonia quickly met us in the lobby of St Joe's, and she was present—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally—the entire 17 hours of labor. We were blown-away by how much energy she has. Looking back, we can't imagine labor without Antonia. There were many hours of laboring where it would have been just the two of us, unsure of what to do and how to make the labor progress. Antonia helped us with positions and communicated with the staff when we needed them. After our son was born, Antonia even gathered our things and helped us to our room, making sure nothing was overlooked.

We strongly recommend Antonia! This was one of the best decisions we made during pregnancy.

We hired Antonia for the birth of our first child, and we can't imagine having gone through it without her! She was incredibly supportive from the moment we first met her, always putting our wishes first and helping us to prepare, mentally and physically, for the labor process. On the big day, she came in the middle of the night to help mom through the labor process without a moment's hesitation. She even helped clean up our house while we attempted to get some much-needed rest! She stayed with us all the way through the successful birth, guiding us every step of the way. We highly recommend Antonia as a doula!

I labored with my eyes closed. And while I couldn’t see Antonia, I could feel her.  If you ask me, that’s even better than seeing. I can say with certainty, I could not have made it through labor and delivery without her support! She had many tricks up her sleeve to help my little guy move down. She was attentive, empathetic, and knowledgeable. My husband was also grateful to have her there on his team and felt he knew his role, all because of her guidance. He was worried he would be lost and helpless but Antonia taught him comfort measures and was available to answer any questions he had. After delivery, I had to be transferred to the hospital and Antonia was right there, along for the ride. She stayed until we were settled in and made sure we were comfortable before she headed home. I highly recommend this beauty and know I will reach out to her for baby number two.

I had THE BEST experience with Antonia. This was my first pregnancy, I knew nothing and having her support meant the world. I didn't have a mom that taught me anything pregnancy or birth so I was honestly scared and feared birth, it's a big deal! I'm so glad we had you there. Antonia brings not only thendoula services but more of a down to earth friendship l, you know, where you feel safe, can ask anything and not feel stupid for asking lol and she will support you whenever you are at! I ended up being a scheduled c section, babygirl was breech but went into labor the night before. I called her and I kid you not, she was there in there in the ER waiting for us ??

Anotonias experience, knowledge, reputation and character speaks volumes and I HIGHLY recommend her. I'll be asking for her help next baby for sure!

Thank you!! We love you and I look forward to seeing you around town??

Our doula called is a week before our due date and let us know she would not be able to make it to our birth due to a family emergency. As a first timer, I would be lying if I said this didn't make me nervous. Fortunately for us, her backup doula was Antonia.

I met Antonia a few hours into my labor. That's right folks...the only communication up to this point had been via text. As soon as she arrived she made me (and my husband) feel at ease. I felt I had known her forever. She is calm, confident, and she knows her stuff. She immediately got to work helping me work through the contractions. She massaged me through each one and at one point sprayed hot water down my back for a solid 30 min (still on of the highlights...that water felt so good!).

At the hospital, Antonia was even more invaluable. As things gained intensity, she was right beside me, helping me breathe and stick to my birth preferences. There were a few times when I didn't think I had another ounce of energy or couldn't push anymore and she was right there telling me I could. She knew exactly what I needed, when I needed it. She helped me labor and push in every position imaginable. I think she even taught the nurse new positions. When one thing wasn't working we would try another...and another. She was so dedicated, leaving my side for a few minutes at most.  All the while making certain my husband and I were at the forefront of the birth.

I still say I don't know if I could've done it without her. I know it sounds dramatic, but I mean it. I know I had the birth of my dreams because she was there. I cannot imagine that day without her. If we have another, I will beg and plead that she be there for that one too. She honestly became a member of our family and it blows my mind that we had just met hours before. If you are on the fence about getting a doula...I cannot recommend THIS doula enough.

I had been looking at Doula services and was still debating on if I wanted to use one. I happened to meet Antonia through a mutual friend. While we were talking about my IVF pregnancy journey and I mentioned I was looking for a Doula. She was extremely nice and I instantly liked her. I got her information and talked with my husband. We met with her and discussed things. She was again very friendly and I decided then I wanted to use her services. After further discussion with my husband, we contacted her. We met a few times and went over everything. She was very knowledgeable and made sure to address any concerns or questions I had. Antonia was a God send at my delivery. She was right at my side and helped me focus on exactly what I needed to do to get my daughter here. I am so happy we met and would happily recommend her.

We met Antonia during our hypnobirthing class and got to know her over the course of a couple weeks. When we decided we wanted to hire a doula we knew immediately we wanted to hire her. Antonia is the perfect blend of personable, professional, knowledgable, and relatable. Antonia made us comfortable from our first meeting with her, she has an upbeat personality and is open-minded. She answered our questions and gave us useful information to not only help with the birth but also the remainder of my pregnancy. She was very easy to get ahold of and answered texts shortly after recieving them. Most importantly she truly listened to what we had in mind for our birth plan.

I can't speak highly enough of Antonia during the birth of our daughter. When we were ready for her to come over to our house a few hours  after my water broke she headed our way within minutes. As a first time mom I was nervous about the birth process. Antonia not only made me feel safe and gave me the encouragement I needed to feel confident, she also was supportive to my husband, giving him tools on how to support me. She not only helped him feel included but made sure he knew he was a vital part of it all. Antonia stayed with us until a few hours after the birth helping out wherever she could.  We had a strong desire to have an unmedicated birth and her knowledge of birthing positions and pain relief techniques were invaluable. She provided a different perspective on how to cope with pain then those we had learned in the many classes we had taken. Since our daughter had trouble latching we ended up getting transferred to the hospital. Antonia made a special point to stop by and visit us there and then a few days after being home she came to our house to check-in as well. She is not only an amazing birthing professional but a genuine and caring person. I give her my highest recommendation, you will not regret hiring her.

Antonia was absolutely fantastic to work with!  I strongly recommend hiring her as a Post Partum mother’s helper if you’re looking for additional support in those early days of a new baby. My partner had very limited family leave and I was recovering from a c-section and having her help and assistance was vital in transitioning from surviving to thriving. She helped with literally everything: taking the baby so I could sleep or shower, feedings, diaper changes, laundry, dishes, taking out the trash, dressing my wound, helping entertain big sister, taking out the dogs, etc. She’s so warm and compassionate that everyone in the family felt so at ease having her around at such an important time. Her maternal vibe made us all feel so cared for and I think anyone would be lucky to have her around before, during, or after baby!

Antonia was amazing. We are so grateful she was able to be with us through this experience. She was so respectful and supportiv of all of the decisions. We were able to meet with her and build a rapport before the birth of our daughter. We were comfortable with her. we are so happy we got a doula and we are sure that this was one of main reason why everything went so smoothly. I recommend Antonia 100% and hopefu we will be able to hire her for the birth of our next one

My husband and I highly recommend Antonia.  When we first met her, we felt an instant connection with her and knew immediately that she would be our doula for our son's birth.  What we noticed first and foremost about her was her passion for her doula work and and her drive to learn more about it.

Antonia was a supportive presence throughout our pregnancy, labor and delivery.  Antonia is highly dependable and organized; we could always rely on her to respond to our texts and phone calls.  We labored for approximately 36 hours, and her presence provided us with a sense of peace and strength.  She also gave me a great deal of emotional support post-partum.

Antonia's presence in our birth story was invaluable and we would recommend her to anyone seeking a doula.

Toni is a very passionate and loving person. She helped me tond during my postpartum period while my husband was gone. She watched my three kids while I was able to shower, clean or just relax for a while. I never wanted her to leave. My kids love her. They always get excited when Mrs Toni comes to watch them. She is on time, replies messages as soon as she can and communication is super easy with her. It's like having you bestie over.
