My husband and I connected with Cara when I was 39 weeks pregnant with our second child. I had been hesitant about the idea of a doula because I wasn’t sure how it would feel to have a stranger in the room during such a personal and vulnerable experience as childbirth. But I also had many more anxieties about my second pregnancy than with my first. Even though I had an unmedicated, vaginal delivery with my first coached by my husband, I wasn’t as confident I could do it the second time around. When my OB suggested I might benefit from a doula and referred me to Cara, I thought she might be the missing piece to help me feel ready for birth. I was right! Cara came to our home for our initial visit and tailor the visit to our needs. She talked us through coping techniques for labor and many of my anxieties I had about the upcoming birth. She also took the time to listen to what we thought her role might be during labor. During labor, Cara was a calm and comforting presence. She fell into a seamless rhythm with my husband and mom, husband coaching by my face, mom getting a cool cloth for my face, and Cara providing hours of counter-pressure massage. Having her support and encouragement allowed me to fully enter in to each contraction. She knew just how much verbal encouragement to offer. During my entire labor, I felt completely supported. Cara was especially helpful during the pushing phase which was the part I was most anxious about. She advocated for me to try different positions like we had talked about during our pre-labor visits, and then gave me extra verbal encouragement when she could see that I was getting discouraged. After delivery, Cara stayed and gave my legs much needed massage. Cara is an outstanding doula who will provide he encouragement you need to birth with confidence. I am so thankful we found her. With Cara as part of my labor support team, I was able to have a confidence-filled labor and delivery experience.
