I met Dana at a coffee shop and through random conversation, she told us that she was a doula. She had just recently delivered a baby boy and at the time I had just found out that I was pregnant but hadn’t shared the news with anyone. I never thought about having a doula until that day. Since I’m so far away from family and have minimal support in NY, I decided to moved forward with a doula. I guess you can say that it was meant to be!

She promised to be available and help me feel comfortable, as much as possible. Her promise did not fall short. Throughout the process she checked on me and even helped with my birthing plan. My gestational period went over 41 weeks and therefore, I had to schedule an induction. I was nervous about it but Dana gave pertinent information about induction, which helped me prepare for what’s to come and scheduling the date.

On the date of my induction, Dana was right by my side. She helped me feel comfortable and really connected with my nurses (which by the way were awesome!) and guests. She also made sure that all of my birthing requests were met and created the prefect environment for me. When I started feeling the contractions, Dana comforted me. She even coached me through some exercises to help with dilation. When my contractions were back to back, she helped with breathing and in between relaxing. I was in labor for 27 hours when the doctor told me that I needed to have a c-section, I chose Dana to go in the operating room with me. She held my hand, said a few encouraging words and within a few minutes, I met my sweet baby boy.

I thank God that she was there every step of the way. She was truly my saving grace. If you want someone that is educated about the process, will help you fulfill your needs pre and post pregnancy, hold your hand, and is patient, then I HIGHLY recommend her. I plan to have a second child and she will definitely be the doula.

I didn’t know what to expect when hiring a Doula. I had my midwife and didn’t know what else I would need, this being my first. I just knew that I wanted a peaceful, “perfect” environment to bring my baby into the world. Dana was the epitome of peace and perfection in her role. I was probably a difficult client in that I couldn’t always articulate my thoughts or be responsive during my pregnancy because I was going through so many emotions while working and preparing for baby. There were so many things that I wanted that I didn’t know I wanted (like food right after I gave birth) and things I didn’t want to happen that I never would have thought of (like not having my baby taken to the nursery), that Dana prepared me for. Her help in formulating my birth plan and somehow making all my random thoughts, wants and needs, make perfect sense was priceless. Her support and guidance throughout my labor not only helped and calmed me, but calmed my family and helped them be supportive. She brought exactly the right energy to the room and helped me safely bring a healthy, booming baby boy into the world naturally. And after her support didn’t in as she made me homemade postpartum teas and sits bath to help me heal and recover from my vaginal birth. She also provided me with resources to help with breastfeeding difficulties. She was a professional throughou, always on call and in communication to make feel secure. I am truly indebted to her for all that she’s done for us.
