The moment we met Cara, we knew that she was the doula for us. Her warm smile, knowledge and calm, supportive spirit was everything we needed. Since I was 38 years old and attempting a VBAC, our pregnancy was considered high-risk. Our doctor was lovely, but those 15-minute prenatal appointments don’t allow much for discussing one’s emotions, fears and family dynamics! From the first home visit, I realized that Cara wasn’t just there for me, she supported my whole family through this physical and emotional transition. Cara made herself available to each of us and provided us with hands-on and visual resources (date smoothies! deep pressure! inversions! big brother talks!). When we told Cara that we were in labor and ready for her, she never left our side. At the hospital, during labor, every hurdle was met with a supportive strategy and reassurance that I could do it! Every time the doctors softly suggested a c-section, I found myself calmly and politely declining, knowing that I had my husband and Cara behind me, supporting whatever I decided. Honestly, if it wasn’t for all the preparation and conversations Cara and I shared about labor, I don’t know that I would’ve had the strength and resilience to soldier on. Our little girl was born at 7pm on a Saturday night, beating the odds with a successful and beautiful vaginal delivery. Thank you Cara, for reflecting my own strength and lending me some of yours...and for showing me that I absolutely could get on my hands and knees, even with an epidural!
Cara provides compassionate, evidence based care utilizing a variety of modalities including visualization, massage, aromatherapy, and pre/postnatal check ins. Throughout my labor, she played an integral role in helping me achieve my goal of an intervention free birth. Her knowledgeable and thorough approach is comforting, and I credit her with helping my daughter arrive safely and healthy! Cara is a gift, and I would recommend her services to any expecting or new mama!
