Miriam attended our fourth birth, which was our first time to do a home birth. Our first three were born in Nebraska where it is not legal for a medical professional to attend a home birth, and our first one ended up in an emergency c-section, so for those reasons we had never planned to do a home birth. But after praying about it we decided to try a home birth with a midwife (our second and third had been successful, natural vbacs in a hospital). Miriam was a wonderful support and we were so thankful to have her with us during labor! She stayed with our older children while my husband and I went out for a walk, suggested different positions and helped relieve back pain during labor, assisted the midwives when they arrived, and helped in every way she could from taking pictures and giving me drinks of water to starting our laundry afterward. She was so helpful and encouraging through the whole process as we made decisions about where to have our baby, and then during and after labor. We were truly blessed to have Miriam as our doula and would highly recommend her to all!
Miriam was a doula for the birth of our first child. She went above and beyond in so many ways. Before the birth she came for a home visit (because we were planning a home birth) to get better acquainted and find out my hopes and fears about having a baby. As the due date came closer she would check in to see how I was doing. I ended up going 2 weeks overdue. Several days before I was supposed to be induced, with my consent, Miriam set up a chiropractor appointment to help my body to get adjusted. We hoped it would induce labor naturally or at least help my body be ready when labor came. When I went into labor a few days later (naturally ??) Miriam came to Wichita and stayed in town with a friend and ran errands until I was ready for her support. All through labor and afterwards she was a huge blessing, from encouraging words, prayer, walking with me, labor techniques, staying calm, learning to nurse, to just making sure I had water to drink. She was also great at giving my wonderful husband ways to help me during labor. About a week after birth she came by for a quick followup visit to make sure baby and I were doing well.
I would highly recommend Miriam as a great doula and friend!
Miriam was a wonderful doula. She was very attentive to my needs and always timely when answering any questions or concerns I had. She prayed for the baby and I frequently, and I know she cared! This was my fourth pregnancy but it was alot more complicated than the last 3 labors and pregnancies. I am so glad i decided to hire Miriam.
I had Miriam as my Doula for my 3rd child’s birth. My first two births were cesareans and I knew from before I was pregnant that I wanted to try and have a vaginal delivery. Miriam supported and encouraged me through searching for a new OB and finding a hospital that would allow it. She listened to me go on and on about all the research I had done. And then she attended my birth. I am so thankful she was there. She knew how I felt about every little decision and choice in the hospital. From reminding me to reach down and touch babys head as she crowned to writing down important miles stones throughout labor she was there for me in every way.
Sometimes when I couldnt voice what I needed she simply whispered prayers over me and supported me with a reassuring touch. I’m thrilled that I was able to have my vaginal delivery with no epidural and that Miriam was a huge part of that!
I find myself at a loss for words when it comes to writing a review for Miriam. There are so many things I want to say and I don’t think I could do her justice without a text too long for anyone to want to read. Miriam is an amazing friend and a fantastic doula.
As I faced birth after having lost 3 babies (one of which was lost after birth), I was carrying fears and doubts with me. I also was going for a vbac. Miriam was a supportive role, kind, understanding, and she believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. My birth story wasn’t how I perfectly planned each step in my head. She was with me every step of the way though. And when it turned into 34 hours of labor, I know that she got the least amount of sleep out of my birth team.
Our outcome met my highest priorities. Not only do I hold my beautiful daughter in my arms but I also was able to successfully have a vbac. I know Miriam had a huge role in making me believe that was possible and keeping me going. You won’t regret hiring her as a doula.
Miriam attended my third child's birth as a doula in a hospital. My first two I got epidurals, and while I didn't have bad experiences with those, I knew I wanted to go without them this time. I ended up having prodromal labor for 5 weeks before I actually ended up having my baby and I know 100% that I could not have made it through that tough season without Miriam's support, her amazing back massage, and her friendship. I am so thankful that she was with me every step of the way with my first natural birth, and I would absolutely go all natural with Miriam as my doula again!! She was encouraging, kind, helpful, and with me every step of the way.
Miriam attended my hospital birth as a doula. I was very determined to have our first child naturally but was also very nervous whether or not that would be possible. I had heard so many horror stories about giving birth and didn't know whether or not I would be strong enough to decline an epidural when I knew it was so readily available. I can honestly say that Miriam's presence at my birth is what helped me fulfill my dream of delivering naturally. She tenderly guided me through different positions to make my labor easier, used massage and pressure points to relieve tension and talked me through every step in such a kind, loving way. Miriam is passionate about mother and baby both receiving the best care possible and her empathy and compassion makes her the perfect doula. She will laugh with you, cry with you, and even pray for and with you in the difficult moments. If you want someone who is sensitive to you during your labor yet someone who is not afraid to take charge when they need to, give Miriam a call as your hospital birth doula.
