I had such a positive, loving, supported birth experience thanks to Sarah. I enjoyed the family centered home visits before the birth and the ability to reach out and ask questions at any time. The day my baby was born Sarah offered such a calming, reassuring presence that ultimately led to my goal of a natural birth. She was amazing at teaching and showing my husband ways to feel and be more present and play an active role during labor. I had a hospital birth, and it was wonderful to bounce ideas and feelings among the support staff. I always felt comfortable and confident, listening to my body. The words she spoke to me during the hardest times, I will never forget even when I felt I was in a whirlwind. A doula was something I didn’t even know about the first time around, and I wish I would have found Sarah then. She made bringing my second into the world such an amazing experience that I will always be grateful for. Doulas help you find your inner warrior and peace all at the same time.
We worked with Sarah as our Doula and there are not enough words to describe how great she was. She was very informative and answered all of our questions during our prenatal visits and was always available by phone if I needed her. When I went into labor in the middle of the night she was so kind and calm. I always felt confident and in control, she never let me give up. She was my advocate and helped to make sure my nurses and hospital staff were following my birth plan and that I had no unnecessary interventions. I feel so empowered and so proud I was able to birth my baby boy without any pain medication. I couldn’t have done it without her. We will absolutely hire her again if we decide to add to our family.
Sarah swooped in during the first few days after I gave birth and saved my breastfeeding relationship with my daughter! It was a weekend when I came home from the hospital and started breastfeeding. When I knew something wasn't right, Sarah arrived on my doorstep a few hours after I called her. All of the hospital breastfeeding support options were closed, and so I was so grateful to have Sarah come straight to my house to diagnose our problems and help us come up with a plan.
My daughter's latch needed adjusting, and I had developed blisters because of her poor latch during the first few days. Sarah not only came over twice in one day when I needed her, but she also searched several stores nearby for nipple shields to help protect me while I healed. She assisted me in setting up and using my breast pump, and reassured me that everything was "normal" and fixable.
Sarah's demeanor is incredibly calm and nurturing. She was exactly what my husband and I needed after a wild birth experience and in the presence of all of our family members who were visiting postpartum. She is a great guide to have while finding your breastfeeding rhythm because she is able to answer questions and provide support without being overbearing. I could not recommend her enough for lactation and postpartum support!
Sarah made my birth and postpartum time so unbelievably wonderful. Her gentle and kind support blessed our family in ways she will probably never know. If I was planning on having more children I would choose her a thousand times over to be involved in our experience! She came For a visit postpartum to check on us and ended up spending several hours with me because she knew I needed her! She absolutely went above and beyond her job, and anything I could have hoped for. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Brittany provided lots of helpful information in the two prenatal meetings. As a first time mom, it was great to have Brittany suggest possible labor preferences to research and decide on ahead of time. She also helped me develop my birth plan.
When early labor began, Brittany was available by phone to provide insight on what real contractions feel like and checked in often. Once the contractions became stronger and more frequent, Brittany came to my house before we went to the hospital. Even at home, Brittany began showing us different laboring positions and techniques to alleviate my lower back pain. I found this to be very helpful in entering the focused, calm mindset that I desired for labor.
At the hospital, Brittany continued to suggest positions and different types of movement. I appreciated Brittany's calm presence throughout the labor process. Because she knew my preferences and birth plan ahead of time, she was able to make suggestions for positions and counter pressure. Her knowledge of non-pharmacological pain management gave me confidence that I could get through each contraction. When I needed more support as labor progressed, she had a new position or technique to try. With Brittany's help, I was able to have the natural birth that I wanted; we will definitely have her around for any future children!
(Husband's perspective) - I found it comforting to have Brittany work with us before and during the labor. I was nervous about what my wife was about to go through, and was uncertain how I could contribute. After our prenatal meetings, I felt more prepared with skills and research that she recommended. Throughout labor, I was empowered to provide support, encouragement, and lots of counter-pressure. I really felt that she made it a priority to help me be as involved as possible, and as a result I had a positive labor experience.
Brittany was an integral part in making our birth go as smoothly as possible. She provided us with information that was helpful for us to visualize what labor and delivery would look like, and prepare a birth plan. We were confident that she would be supportive of whatever choices I would make during delivery, since she has helped women with a wide variety of birth preferences. She made my contractions bearable, up to the end, by putting pressure on my hips and encouraging me in my breathing technique. She also suggested different positions to make my labor easier. My husband was so thankful to have someone there to help direct him and give him suggestions to help support me. She was supportive of my birth preferences while still being flexible to the medical needs brought forward by the hospital staff. I cannot imagine having gone though labor and delivery without her support.
Sarah Sims was my doula for my last birth. I immediately connected with her. Her warm and loving spirit radiates off of her, and she was exactly what I needed. My midwife and Sarah made the perfect team. Sarah lovingly listened to my needs and gave me back massages... she made sure my needs were met throughout the entire labor. I think having a doula is so important because while the midwife focuses more on the baby, the doula is there for the mother. For comfort and to make sure her emotional needs are being met. Because of Sarah’s calming personality, she makes the perfect doula. So thankful she was a part of my last birth experience; and if I’m blessed with another baby, she will be my first choice again!!!
