Birthways made it easy for me to get birth support from a doula within my budget even though I procrastinated until the 38th week of my pregnancy. The administrative staff were all cheerful and helpful, and my doula helped me have the delivery that I had hoped for!

This review is for Tara Romsaithong. Skeptical about needing a doula? I was. My midwives insisted that I hire one despite me saying that it wasn’t necessary. I now think that a doula is worth every penny. I fully intend to hire Tara again if we are blessed with another child.

Birthways did a good job matching me to my doula. There was plenty of communication and I was pleased with the questions they asked before suggesting a match. The post-delivery follow up was also nice and I even received a thank you note in the mail.

Tara and I had two prenatal visits. She was resourceful, experienced (she has kids of her own and has attended many births), and our conversations felt natural. We made a 911 plan in case home-birth wasn’t possible and a plan for home-birth. After both visits, I felt well-prepared and much more confident.

Birth did not go according to plan. One month early, I went into labor. She was by my side in a heartbeat.  I’m not sure how I would have done it if it weren’t for the presence of my husband and my doula. It was as if she knew what I was thinking and feeling during every moment and she responded with the right words and actions. She did many things but to name a few, when we first arrived, the labor and delivery room smelled disgusting to me (that hospital smell, you know?). Within minutes, she had set up a diffuser that transformed the scent completely and she turned on quiet music to hide the sounds in the busy hospital hallway. During contractions she applied hot compresses to my back and squeezed my hips. During breaks she made sure I was drinking water. She helped me breath and relax properly, advocated for my preferences when I couldn’t speak, and communicated with my family while I couldn’t. I didn’t think I would need to be cheered on when labor was intense but her encouragement helped me focus and helped me believe that I could do it.

Birthways introduced us to Tammany and she was such a huge help for our family during a time when we were welcoming home a tough colicky newborn who cried day and night. Tammany  gave us the relief we needed 2 nights a week and was a calming presence in our home. When we asked for information or advice she had experienced insight to offer. She also took it upon herself to start to lay our baby boy down when he was drowsy but not fully asleep. This helped immensely as we started to sleep train him. At 10 weeks he started sleeping through the night 6 to 8 hours on his own and I know the fact that she took the initiative to start him down was HUGE! We would not have wanted to go through that challenging time without her and we were sad when our time together ended. Birthways makes the process seamless and their professionalism is huge as they handle all the details so you can heal, recover, and transition. Thank you to the whole team. We're grateful.

I had a wonderful experience with Leah.  She was warm, open minded, positive, enthusiastic, and passionate about her work. I had a positive birth experience and stayed positive postpartum because of her ever present support and enthusiasm for my baby and how we were doing. Leah helped me both physically and emotionally and I am so grateful she was such a meaningful part of my birth and post partum experience.

Brit Brackins is absolutely amazing! She literally massaged my back for four hours straight, created an environment that felt safe and focused, provided clarity as the liason between us/the hospital staff, talked to my parents in the waiting room, helped me channel the pain of contractions...the list goes on. If you work with Birthways, ask for Brit. She's absolutely amazing and is truly a part of our family now.

Betsy was an incredible birth parnter and educator. As the husband, I was extremely skeptical of the home birth process. Betsy calmed my fears from the beginning and taught me about the safety and benefits. She stood beside us throughout the entire 70+ labor, supported my wife, coached me, and even took some gorgeous pictures of our daughter being born. Thanks to Betsy, I experienced one of the greatest and most profound joys in my life: being the first hands on my daughter as she entered this world.

We worked with Brit and Katy from Birthways for the birth of our first child.  I definitely had my fears of medical interventions during childbirth and wanted an unmedicated vaginal birth because of these fears.  Brit and Katy were there for me the entire time to reassure me that our midwife would only use medical interventions as they were necessary.  They both explained all of the possible interventions, walked me through creating a birth plan, and offered many resources so that I could continue to learn about the process of birth.  Through this time together I was able to work through my fears and understand what my body was going through.  On the day of our birth Katy was able to attend and could not have been more attentive and attuned to our needs.  My husband was so appreciative of Katy's expertise and energy as this was his first birth as well and it was exhausting for both of us.  When I hit a wall as I was pushing she was able to talk with our midwife and nurses to discuss what I might need in order to work through the exhaustion.  As a result of Katy and Brit's support I was able to have the birth I had wanted and we welcomed our son into the world.

They reached out after we arrived home to schedule a follow up and helped me with breastfeeding and latching which was extremely helpful.  They also let me know of the additional supports that Birthways offers to new moms and famlies.  I cannot speak more highly of the support we received.

I cannot imagine the past year without Carmen Rodriguez. Carmen has served as my Birthways postpartum doula since last May and been an invaluable source of support. Starting with us when my son was seven months old, Carmen fit in with our family immediately. She is warm, funny, down-to-earth, and constantly reassuring. When Carmen started with us, my son was seven months old and my daughter was 2 and half. I was still in “newborn mode,” afraid to leave the house for more than an hour at a time lest I miss one of seven nursing sessions a day. Carmen gently encouraged me to head out for a bit when she was here, and I quickly felt comfortable doing so because she cares for my children simultaneously with grace and ease. I was terribly out of shape at the time and credit Carmen with giving me the confidence to attend postpartum workout classes a few times a week. My health has improved tremendously with her as my doula. She offered unflagging guidance and support as I potty trained my very stubborn daughter and then endured two bouts of mastitis. She is tremendously knowledgeable about caring for newborns, infants, and toddlers, and both of my children adore her. I enthusiastically recommend Carmen to anyone searching for a Birthways postpartum doula! She is the absolute best.

Brit is a wonderful Doula! I had a very scary first birth experience and I needed someone to help me work through my anxiety before giving birth to my son. Brit gave me just the support I needed. With her help I had a fast birth with minimal pain and a relaxing postpartum experience. When my birth took an unexpected turn, Brit was their to help me through and was very calm. She was excellent with my husband and daughter too!

I am a person of few words. Claire was hands down THE BEST doula for my wife Catherine and I. She knew exactly how to treat and take care of both of us. I will ALWAYS suggest Claire to ANY expecting parents.

Katy was absolutely INCREDIBLE every step of the way. She was lovely to meet with beforehand and we immediately clicked. She got to the hospital in a timely manner, advocated for me and reminded me of things I was hoping for in my birth plan in the heat of the moment. With every contraction and weird new phase of labor, she reassured me and my husband that it was all exactly as it should be and that my body was doing exactly what it was supposed to do. We had so many different nurses cycling though the room, it was so so comforting having Katy there from beginning to end. Her counter-pressure back/hip squeezes were HEAVEN and the ONLY thing that got me through every contraction. She was a guide and support not just for me, but my husband. I was able to have an amazing, exhilerating natural birth experience, and it's thanks to Katy. Before the birth, my husband was skeptical as to "why we had to pay extra for someone who's not even delivering the baby." Now he is a huge fan and even recommends doulas to others! Thank you Katy for your amazing work!

Claire was phenomenal to work with as our doula. From the beginning, she created an environment that was warm and open and gave us space to navigate our own wants, needs, and decisions. Her approach was always kind, patient, thoughtful, and sensitive, and she readily put us at ease. She paid a lot of attention to the whole family, specifically my partner and stepson, and encouraged us to think about each person's role and desires. We really appreciated her approach to the whole family and how thoughtful she was with us. Claire is just incredibly knowlegeable. She welcomed all questions and seemingly knew everything about pregnancy and the birthing process. She had great strategies for pain management and discomfort during pregnancy. She also paid specific attention to our anxieties and was such a good listerner, was easy to talk to, had great suggestions and tools for us. During the birth of our son, Claire was such a calming force. Even though the birth didn't go as we had hoped, she was really wonderful at talking us through our options, allowing us space to think and process, and making sure all our questions were answered by the midwives and doctors. After the birth, Claire was instrumental in helping us process our experience and making sure that not only our newborn, but us as parents, were doing ok. She has followed up on numerous occassions and always been a stable, calming, and loving support, and has such joy in visiting us and our newborn. Working with Clarie was genuintely one of the best parts of the birthing process.

We feel so fortunate to have worked with Claire as our doula. She took time to get to know us and make sure we were comfortable with her while I was pregnant, and her support throughout my labor was invaluable. She was calm, thoughtful, patient, and so much more. Claire recognized our needs and gently offered ideas about how to support us. There was never any pressure to do things a certain way, but rather, she was a true partner during the process. When we had to make some bigger medical decisions, she was an advocate for us taking the time we needed to ensure that the decision we made felt right and was in my and our baby's best interest. Claire was there for us throughout my labor and delivery, and she continued to be a resource afterwards. I felt comfortable reaching out to her with some challenges I experienced after I was home, and in true form, she was affirming and calming. I cannot say enough good things about the experience of having Claire as our doula. She is professional, warm, level-headed, and incredibly knowledgeable.

We had the privledge of working with Claire as we were awaiting the arrival of our son the spring of 2016. My husband and I were looking for doula services as this was our first child and we had no idea what to do or expect from the birthing experience. We started interviewing and from our initial meeting with Claire, I knew she was special and couldnt imagine working with any one else. She carries a very calm and peaceful presence. She is understanding, honest, and respectful of your wishes. Most importantly she is focused on you and your feelings as you enter parenthood. Her experience and knowledge as a doula is unmatched and for this reason I will always recommend her to anyone seeking these services. My sister was my first referral to Claire. She not only had the same wonderful experience but was also a participant to Claire's new 'Mindful Birthing' course. To this day both she and her husband credit the classes teachings on how they remained focused through their birth experience and even with the highs and lows of being new parents. I happily speak on behalf of our families that Claire will always be a special person to us. Thank you Claire, we are forever grateful for you!

After interviewing a few different doulas, I chose Claire to support us at the home birth of our first child. I chose Claire because of her calm, relatable, laid-back demeanor - she just seems like the type of person who is going to be calm in just about any situation. As we got to know Claire prior to the birth, she provided us with lots of great material to read and review and always answered our questions (no matter how bizarre). With so many service providers that come to you with a point of view, Claire offered objective, non-judgemental information and advice, which I greatly appreciated. When it came to labor and birth support on the day of delivery, Claire walked into an intense situation. My labor had progressed very quickly and she calmly assessed the situation and supported my husband to ensure the midwife was well-informed of my progress. Immediately following my son's healthy birth, she gave us the space we needed to bond as a family, but also jumped in to provide support with the first nursing session and to ensure that we were prepared before our wonderful team left us alone for the first time. Claire also provided so much support following the birth. From her recommendations for a lactation consultant to her frequent early check-ins to make sure we were doing okay, she continued to be a comfort in the weeks and months following our delivery. We are very grateful to have had Claire's support during this important transition and highly recommend her to anyone who may be considering her doula or childbirth education services. She is not only extremely knowledgeable, but also an all around lovely presence during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period.

My family and I had the pleasure of having Claire as our doula for the birth of both children, the first in December 2014 and a second this past April. My intent in hiring a doula was so that I'd have an advocate during the birth process at the hospital. I did not want to go into a very new, very foreign situation and baed on the stories I'd heard, I anticipated I'd loose my voice and circumstances would be out of my control. Claire educated my husband and I on what to expect witih a hosptial delivery, the procedures and outcomes but also the before's: how to plan for labor at home and after's: what to expect. My concerns subsided and I was confident of the advocacy Claire would bring to the birth. During our home visists, we immediatly were at ease with each other and on the same page with what we wanted. Claire's training with mindfulness clearly resonated and bringing this approach to the birth helped me to be measured in my thoughts and how I communicated to those at the hospital. I could not imagine going through either experience without the guidance and presence of Claire. Neither birth went according to "the plan" but all three (myself, husband, Claire) took on the unexpected with ease, awareness and peace. The knowledge and calm Claire brought to the births reassured me we were in control as a team and would take each step and adjustment together one at a time. Claire put in long hours with my husband and I at both births and her support and energy never wavered. She remained upbeat and eager to meet our babies and made it clear we were in it together. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect coach, friend, supporter, advocate, guide than what I found in Claire.

Carmen was a true ray of sunshine in our lives. Not only was she wonderful with my toddler daughter, she also engaged and brought out the best in my 6 year-old son. She was amazingly energetic, kind, fun, and compassionate. I so enjoyed the time we spent with her. Any family would be lucky to work with her. Carmen's the best!

I'm honestly not sure where I'd be as a new father without Claire. First thing's first: Claire was an immensely calming and educational presence our Mindful Birthing Class. I HIGHLY recommend any parent, whether new or seasoned, to take this class in preparation for your new family member (birthwaysinc.com/mindfulness-based-childbirth-parenting). It provided a variety of exercises and methods for bringing a calm, rational and encouraging energy to the birthing process. As this was our first child, I, like I imagine many new dads, had many fears and anxieties about parenthood. Not just labor, but what leads up to it and mostly what comes after it. Claire's class and practices not only apply to the big Event of Birth itself, but ways to be mindful and cope with fears and anxieties that surround leading up to and after your child enters the world. Take it if you can. Beyond the class, Claire happened to become our doula for the second half of our labor/delivery, as our original doula had to take on another mother's labor while ours was going on (to her complete defense, and to Claire's credit, our original doula only did this knowing it was Claire specifically who was available to take her place). Claire was beyond amazing as a calming force during labor - she was there for my wife during active labor, helping get through each contraction and visualizing the progress she was making, and ultimately being with her when the doctor made the call that a caesarian section needed to be performed. She was there for me as a scared partner when the first epidural didn't take and my wife was in so much pain. She was there for me during and after the c section process, reassuring me when I needed it most that things were going to be just fine. If you're lucky enough to have Claire as your doula, absolutely do it.

Claire was the doula for our son Jasper's birth in October of 2015 and we couldn't have been happier with the experience. We had chosen to have a home birth in our one bedroom apartment because it seemed like the best environment to foster a calm, relaxed labor for my wife. Between the midwives, family, and 3 cats present, it had the potential to be overwhelming, but she was very helpful at keeping us focused on the present moment and intuitive about when to suggest a new comfort measure, a change of position, or when to just sit with us. I know doulas are often associated with natural births, but after our experience, I have become an advocate for having a doula as labor support no matter the situation. Claire's confidence kept me centered and able to give my wife the support she needed from me. My wife also remembers how calm Claire's presence was throughout the birth. I know I should have let Claire spell me for a moment or two, but she didn't question my choice to be next to my wife for the entirety of the 12 hour labor. The final 1-2 hours were the most challenging and difficult for us all. Jasper was very comfortable hanging out in the birth canal and did not want to progress any further. My wife was losing energy and strength and was on the verge of giving up. I don't remember much else besides this, but I was able to find my reserves to get my wife through to the end; I know that Claire was right on the other side of us giving just as much. I believe you will be very happy with Claire as your doula!

Carmen has been with our family for almost a year. We contacted Birthways about six weeks after the birth of our first child with the intent of having assistance for a short period of time. Now, Carmen has become part of our family. We dediced to continue working with Carmen as she helps with so many aspects of of our daily lives. She is incredibly kind, knowledgable and extremely professional. As a new mom she helped me understand what is "normal" and guide the new parents through the many changes of a newborn. I always felt ahead of the curve as a new mom because Carmen would encourage us to embrace the transitions in our baby's developing life. I would highly reccomend Carmen to anyone as she is not only a fantastic person but a true professional when it comes to rasing a child.

Carmen helped me and my daughter after I had a medical procedure, not the usual doula job but like the Birthways doulas who helped me postpartum years ago she adapted to the situation and brought calm, order and understanding to my house. One would not have known what was going on as it felt serene and organized and it was no false sense. She helped my 15 year old daughter see strength in herself and connected with her even though she did not want to engage. I did not need to tell her what needed doing, she just figured it out. Sometimes you see someone work and what yells out is kindness and skill, that is Carmen. Nothing negative to say, she is extraordinary.

Having a doula is really helpful for first-time-mothers. All the time we spend with Leah was 100% efficient and helpful. I would say, the “preparation” for the delivery was the most important part for me. I was completely prepared for the labor and delivery thanks to our pre-partum meetings and discussions, and, as a result - I had a good delivery. It did not go according to how I had expected it but, Leah was a huge support that it made me forget how it happen and she helped me focus on the present.

They are super organized and give compassionate service. They went above and beyond to work with us and I think they did a great job with matching. We really felt comfortable and trusted the doula we were assigned and grateful for her help.
