I had never considered hiring a doula until I knew that I would be giving birth in the midst of a pandemic. I had always pictured having my husband, my mother, and his mother in the delivery room with us. I desperately felt like my husband and I would need some extra support bringing our daughter into the world since our family wouldn’t be allowed in our delivery room due to hospital visitor restrictions. Working in healthcare myself, I didn’t see those restrictions easing up anytime soon. I’m thankful a friend and former co-worker recommended Jeanna to me. I can honestly say, she played a huge role of helping me achieve the natural birth I wanted. She supported me and also helped guide my husband to be the support that I needed as well. I love the calm and kind spirit that she brought to our hospital room, that she had my room filled with scripture and positive affirmations written on note-cards on the walls, and that she kept the atmosphere peaceful for us even in the uncomfortable and difficult moments. I’ve never met someone before who so effortlessly operates to the fullest potential of their calling. Now I tell all my friends that hiring a doula was the best investment of my whole pregnancy! Thank you again, Jeanna, for everything!
It has taken me 10 weeks to find the right words, and I still feel like they fall short. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully express our gratitude for Jeanna. From the moment we first talked on the phone I knew she was the Doula for me. She immediately put me at ease. She is kind, knowledgable, funny, Godly, caring, and above all supportive. Because I wanted to at least try for a natural, unmedicated birth I knew some extra support would be helpful for both Nathan and me. Jeanna was wonderful to find resources for me and everything she did helped me prepare physically, mentally, and spiritually for our delivery. She took the time to get to know us and catered a plan specifically to meet our needs. She took special care to answer all of Nathan’s (many!) questions and even provided us with resources just for him. In the midst of a pandemic, when I could have been overwhelmed and lost, she was comfort and a calm voice reminding us that we could do it whether she could be there or not. Fortunately she advocated for families and defended the need for Doulas’ place in hospitals and at the last minute was granted access. Because of Jeanna, our day was beautiful, calm, and perfect. I know without a doubt that her support is the reason I was able to reach my birth goals! An added bonus is that she captured amazing photos of our labor and delivery that I will cherish always. I can’t imagine our story without her! I can’t recommend her enough.
Jeanna is professional, personable, smart, and so supportive. We hired her in the fall of 2019 and she just helped us welcome our baby girl a little over a week ago now. She gives families a wealth of information on birth, exercises for baby positioning and mom’s comfort in pregnancy and birth, coping skills for labor, coping skills for DAD while mom is in labor, and she checks in on her people frequently. She is happy to answer questions and give evidence based guidance.
My goal was a natural VBAC. In the couple of weeks leading up she kept me calm, prayed for me, helped me work through prodromal labor, and eventually came to the hospital prepared to spend more than her fair share of hours with me for my induction since people were banned from leaving and coming back (thanks corona!). Thankfully it was a fairly quick labor and delivery. Throughout labor she encouraged me, gave my husband tips on supporting/ comforting me, helped us figure out comfortable positions to labor in, and helped to gently remind me (often, while I scream cried) that I was capable of succeeding in my goal of remaining unmedicated and that she was there to support in whatever way I decided to give birth in that moment.
Jeanna was an invaluable resource. I would recommend her to any expecting mother. In the midst of the pandemic it should be said that even if she could not have attended my birth in person, her knowledge and support throughout pregnancy would have been worth hiring her anyway.
Jeanna is absolutely amazing! I wanted to hire a doula so that I could have someone to help coach me through natural labor. From the moment I first spoke with Jeanna, she was invested in my wants for my birth and how we could best achieve them together. Learning more about my different options was very important to me as well and she was always ready to provide me with evidence based research and data to prepare me to make the best decisions for my birth. When it came time for my labor and delivery, Jeanna was the best coach. She made the room such a calming and relaxing environment that any health care provider who came in the room commented on how relaxing it was. Just when I thought I couldn't continue Jeanna was there to encourage me and help me through. My husband was also so thankful for her as he was able to enjoy my labor and delivery this time instead of feeling the constant pressure to attend to me at all times. I would recommend Jeanna to anyone looking for a doula. One of the best investments I have ever made!
Jeanna was instrumental in helping me achieve my goals of an epidural-free birth with my 3rd son. I have been a L&D nurse for 8 years and have seen many types of births and worked with several different area doulas. I enjoy working with unmedicated patients and their doulas and knew I wanted this experience for my 3rd baby. I had a couple doulas on my mental “short list” that I would consider hiring, but hadn’t reached out to anyone until I was about 34-35 weeks pregnant! That week, I had the opportunity to work with Jeanna and help a family have an AWESOME natural birth. I was blown away by Jeanna and knew that she was the one for me. I contacted her and we got to work. I loved that she is a Christian and believes in the power of prayer and brings that into her work. Her light absolutely shines in her work and you can tell that she is doing a work from God. She prayed for specific things for me and made the best scripture-inspired Birth affirmations to decorate my hospital room with. I ended up having to be induced early at 37 weeks and she came in and held space with me and my husband. She helped him be the protector and comfort-giver during my birth by giving him small direction on where and how to support me. She suggested and encouraged different positions for me to try and was the small voice telling me I was safe, I was doing great, and I could DO hard things. Thanks again, Jeanna for everything!
After being induced due to preeclampsia and having a long labor, I was nervous as I was nearing the last 5 weeks of my pregnancy in fear my blood pressure would shoot up and we would need to induce. Jeanna was always a text or call away, always responding immediately, to give me information and resources about any question or concern I haz. As I neared the last couple weeks, Jeanna always checked in with me to see how I was doing, reassured me my body knew exactly what it needed to do and gave me different movements to help get baby into the right position. I am so thankful for Jeanna and her heart for what she does. She is full of compassion, knowledge and so many other great characteristics that just make her the best at what she does!
I moved halfway through my pregnancy to a new state for my husband's work. Attempting a VBAC was important to me and I learned that hiring a doula would be one thing I could do to help make that happen. I met Jeanna and was instantly drawn to her kind, calming, and friendly spirit. Jeanna always made me feel like she genuinely cared about me and quickly became a friend. My pregnancy was rough and Jeanna was always there with an encouraging word. I appreciated how edifying Jeanna was in a very difficult time of my life. I had 6 weeks of prodromal labor that led to the arrival of my son and Jeanna was a wealth of knowledge for me. She taught me different exercises that helped me to become comfortable and also help get baby in position. She also helped advise my husband on different ways that he could best help me during labor. She also got some amazing pictures of my labor and of my newborn that I will cherish forever. Looking back, I'm not sure how I would have made it through most of my pregnancy and labor without Jeanna. My son is almost 4 months old and Jeanna still wants to know how I'm doing. She has the biggest heart for mothers and is truly such a blessing.
Jeanna was an answered prayer to my birth journey. From our first time meeting she felt like a close friend, encouraging, affirming, and supporting my goals for birth. She gave me lots of information about specific topics I was concerned about, and supported me through navigating what was best for me. When it came time for labor and delivery jeanna was there as soon as I needed her, even with it being in the middle of the night. Jeanna was an awesome support to me and my husband, he was able to get some rest, she helped show him ways to help me thru contractions, she hung lights and helped keep the environment nice and relaxing, and she continuously prayed with us and for us. She was also able to capture some really special intimate moments, and ultimately the birth of our baby girl. Jeanna has a special touch that makes you feel safe, cared for, important, heard, and loved. I will absolutely have her again at my next birth!
Jeanna has been my best friend since childhood, so naturally, I think she’s amazing. Throughout my pregnancy, she encouraged me, prayed for me, and helped me get over so many fears I had about giving birth naturally. We were pregnant at the same time, and our babies are exactly 3 months apart! She’s kind, loving, and truly a caring person. She’s honest as the day is long, and I appreciate her honesty more than she knows and her knowledge of her field is very extensive. I have always looked up to her, but seeing her as a mama and watching her share her gifts with others is so inspiring. She’s the best!
Where do I start? Im a dad. This is my first child so there were terms like "Doula" that I had to learn as we went but I am SO glad that we did! When we fist met with Jeanna I was going through the motions....nervous, keeping my cool, etc. but on the inside I was freaking out. At our second meeting she gave us exercises to do, which, to be honest, I thought were just kind of silly and a waste of time BUT she gave me so much confidence in that meeting that I could do this and that she would be there to help us (me) the whole way. She stressed attitude and confidence. We did all the exercises and she prayed for us the whole experience. First: the labor and birth went so smooth and fast and I know in my heart it was due to everything she taught us and the exercises. Second: she was there to be with me (us, but mainly me trying not to panic) during what was the most beautiful thing I have ever witnessed in my life. She made the birth of my son a much better experience for both my wife and I. She got pics of the birth as well that we wouldnt have had otherwise. If you are on the fence about using BDBDS or even a doula in general, don't be....just do it! Jeanna is very personal and a God-send. I am one happy daddy! - Psalms 139 ♥?????
There are so many decisions to be made when planning your birth the way you want it and it can be very overwhelming. There is no way I could have birthed my son without an epidural without the help of Jeanna!! The first time I talked to her I was in total peace that she was the one we would use. She has gone over and above what I ever expected from a doula, she was a friend. She has prayed for me, encouraged me, and given me all the resources I needed to have the birth that me and my husband wanted and even when things didn’t go exactly how I planned, she made me feel at peace about them. I will never have another child without a doula. All the prayers she prayed for me were answered. I will tell everyone about her because she truly has a gift. Look no further you have found the perfect doula!!!
I 1,000% recommend Jeanna with By Design Birth Doula Services. When my husband and I started our hunt for our Doula we knew we wanted someone who would be easy to talk to, calming, and detailed. When we first met Jeanna we knew our hunt was over and we had our Doula! My husband and I knew that Jeanna was going to be the best person to walk us through the birthing process and keep us as calm as possible. Once we hired Jeanna, she was always a text or call away to answer questions I had or send me any information I needed. She met with us and prepared us for what labor was going to be like and always asked what I wanted and how I wanted things done. Jeanna helped me with my birth plan and questions to ask my doctor during appointments. The fact that I could text Jeanna at any time and let her know how I was doing or how I was feeling was wonderful - another mom that knows what you are going through! I ended up having to be induced and Jeanna was there bright and early (both days of induction). Every time the doctor would come in and try to rush a decision, Jeanna would calmly ask if we could have a moment to talk before answering (which was great because it was too shy to speak up). She would go over pros and cons to each procedure and help us make the choice that I felt was right for my body. Jeanna was my biggest cheerleader during my stalling labor and was always there to remind me to breath or relax (so helpful). She was able to teach my husband how to help me without annoying me and together they made the best team! Unfortunately, I ended up needed a c-section and Jeanna was able to join us in the operating room where she took the most incredible pictures of my daughters birth. Six months later, we still talk and she loves seeing how my baby is growing. Not only do I consider Jeanna to be the most amazing Doula, but I also consider her a friend. Thank you Jeanna for being my cheerleader, advocate and coach throughout my pregnancy and labor!
My water broke 2 days before my due date, at 10 PM. I texted Jeanna & told her Id reach back out when I needed support. AT 2 AM, I called her in. She talked me thru contractions, sat in silence w/ me, & walked the streets w/ me until 5 AM when my contractions came to a halt. I felt awful. All night long I never progressed & she gave nothing but grace. Around 7 we decided to separate & rest. 15 more hrs passed (24 hours since ROM) so we decided to go to the hospital; by midnight I was admitted for antibiotics. I didnt want to be induced tho I felt the pressure from my OB if contractions did not pick up by the AM. I was on & off the phone w/ Jeanna through this time, & again, she was the only one who seemed to hear me. I called her in at 6 AM to go thu last ditch efforts to spark labor before induction. Nothing. At 8 I was induced. Jeanna sang w/ me, bounced w/ me, danced w/ me, & laughed w/ me thu early labor. As my contractions intensified, she cleared my room, positioned my bed 4 me, reminded me to relax, breathe, and led my husband to support me. As I neared transition, Jeanna picked me up off the floor following contractions & tied my hair back as the surges made me vomit. I was pressured to allow my OB to continuously check dilation. While the medical staff spoke aggressively AT me, Jeanna spoke softly TO me. Giving me & my husband the courage to put our foot down & demand that I be left alone to birth how I wanted. Being reminded that you have a voice, when youre that vulnerable is priceless. Finally, it was time to push. I looked at Jeanna and said "IM DOING IT!" She cheered me on as I pushed, she helped me latch my baby for our first feed after she was born, & she even found a way to photograph every moment for me. I couldnt have sustained myself through my unmedicated birth w/o her. Jeanna made me feel so empowered and capable, and ensured my daughters birth story is one I cant wait to tell her about.
From our first meeting it was clear Jeanna was the doula for me. She was so engaged and easy to talk to throughout the whole pregnancy, labor, and postpartum period. She constantly encouraged and supported me and made me feel more confident about my choices. She also made a point to keep my husband involved and supported him during labor to help me. I felt so blessed to have found Jeanna and know she’ll just keep blessing other expectant mamas!
I didn't find Jeanna until the last trimester of my pregnancy with my third child. She was the second doula I had contacted, and I am so glad I chose her! I truly believe God put her in my path. She was the perfect fit for us! She was very easy to talk with, and I felt very comfortable and at peace with her around. She made sure to keep my family up to date on my condition and informed them of how things could slow down if we went to the hospital too soon. While my birth did not go as planned, she was quick to take action and provide the support I needed in a rather fast and unplanned home delivery. I'm apparently a bit tricky when it comes to contractions and it's hard to tell when I'm in transition. But, Jeanna was fantastic! It's definitely an exciting story to tell, and while it was not my plan to have a home birth it was ok and it went so well! Birth plans can change, and that's fine! It's important to keep this in mind and to be ready! I was ready for baby to come, no matter how it happened and I truly believe keeping an open mind helped. I cannot express enough gratitude in having a supportive person to be there when you are bringing another life into the world, no matter what you choose, how you want to birth etc. A doula is such an incredible asset to have on your side in such a vulnerable time when you need to express things but can't. She's your voice. And having a voice is powerful.
First of all I don’t have the time to write a review long enough to brag on Jeanna but I’ll try to paraphrase! I thought my 4th baby would surely be the quickest and easiest labor & delivery experience... boy was I wrong! I went into labor on the day before my due date around 9pm, I texted Jeanna and let her know it was time. After timing contractions a while and traveling to the hospital it was 3am. Jeanna was waiting on me there and had let the staff know I was coming in. From there I started to lose momentum, Jeanna helped me as I walked the halls, rolled on the Birth ball, did squats and used the breast pump all in efforts to get things going. She did everything; managing family in the waiting room, getting me ice chips, helping me focus, encouraging me, reminding me of my goals and cheering me on as I pushed (and so much more). This labor turned out to be my longest by more than double the time! 26 hours total! Having Jeanna there was the best decision I could have made! I can honestly say my birth was a success and much to her credit! I absolutely recommend a Doula no matter what kind of birthing experience you are wanting to have. I’m so thankful for Jeanna and the blessing she was to me & my family on such a wonderful day!
Jeanna was a Godsend! From the moment I expressed interest in a natural delivery, she was a constant source of knowledge and encouragement. It was so reassuring to know that I had access to her wisdom and knowledge on the topic, as I had tons of questions. And although our birth plans might not always evolve exactly how we wish, Jeanna encouraged me to be informed of all of my options, allowing my husband and I to be less stressed about the things beyond our control and better focused to make informed decision. Throughout my pregnancy, Jeanna consistently provided me with information specific to my plan and other tools to help me focus my thoughts towards my labor and delivery.
When I called at midnight, she was on the road within minutes and actually got to the hospital minutes after my husband and me. (We live in different cities!!) She never left my side, expressing my wishes to the medical team, helping me to focus on the task at hand and at times, managing my very excited (and quite large) group of visitors. At 2:32pm, Jeanna was right there as my sweet boy made his arriva, via all-natural deliver. My entire family was so impressed with how well she managed everything. I’m so thankful that Jeanna was a part of our birth story. So much credit is owed to her for how amazing my experience was. If you have ever considered hiring a doula - whatever your plan looks like, whatever your wishes may be, give Jeanna a call. She is a blessing!!
