Having an educator/experienced supporter/advocate is priceless when you’re going through this for the first time. We chose Erin because she exudes kindness & compassion. She has a quiet strength and solid knowledge/training behind it. As a non-traditional family we were drawn to someone so open/accepting.
We had several pre-natal sessions where Erin walked us through our feelings on pregnancy/birth. She checked in with us and made sure we were thinking about all the right things. Our last pre-natal visit w/ Erin was the most eye-opening. She walked us through what labor/delivery would look like. We learned a ton and feel lucky that we knew these things ahead of time.
During the birth, Erin was a superhero. With boundless energy, she put in a ton of hard work.
As we entered the birthing room, she made us feel comfortable/calm/prepared. Erin made sure our questions were answered, and didn’t hesitate to ask the nurses for anything we needed.
Erin greeted the hospital staff with professionalism and melded seamlessly into their workflow. Every time there was an exam, she was there to ensure we understood and made us feel confident in asking questions/getting answers. She supported us unconditionally. Her voice of reason was appreciated in the stressful times.
Erin thoughtfully involved partners and family in the process. She was careful not to get in the way of our family’s birthing experience, rather she enhanced our support of each other.
Without her strong drive to help us try different positions to turn the baby, we’re not sure a vaginal birth would have been possible. But we did it! And as we welcomed our daughter, Erin was there assisting the midwife and snapping beautiful photos of our first moments together.
We really couldn’t recommend Erin enough. If you’d like a cheerful, caring, powerful advocate for your birth experience, you can rely on her.
Erin was absolutely wonderful before, throughout, & after our birth. She was so supportive of both my wife & myself. Erin was so knowledgeable & comfortable supporting us as a lesbian family. Erin made us feel comfortable throughout the process & helped us advocate for ourselves. She helped us stay calm & confident even when our birth did not go as we had hoped or planned. I had a very long labor & Erin was there the entire time. She arrived at our house & helped us cope with pain management at home for before we went to the hospital & she didn't leave our side in the hospital. After pushing for 6 hours, I was not progressing and the medical team suggested Pitocin & an epidural. Erin was very helpful, she asked everyone except my wife to leave the room so that we could discuss deviating from our birth preferences together privately. This helped us feel like we weren’t pressured into any interventions & even though, I had wanted an unmedicated birth, we decided it seemed like the right option for us. We pushed for another 3 hours & Erin was right there checking on me & my wife. The medical team recommended a C-section & Erin asked everyone to clear the room so that my wife & I could make a decision. When we decided to go ahead with the C-section Erin was very supportive. I was surprised that I wasn’t scared or upset; it felt like the right decision & like it was my decision. I think a major reason I felt so calm was Erin’s constant encouragement. I was worried that if we had a C section it somehow wouldn’t feel as special or like I birthed her, but I didn’t feel that way at all. I honestly don’t know how people have babies without doulas. Even though it was not close to the birth we planned, I felt so empowered, loved, & supported throughout our whole birth experience, & I believe Erin played a major part in that.
I cannot say enough how amazing Erin was. This was my wife and I’s first child, so we were definitely unsure about a lot. After we came up with a rough birth plan, we decided to look for a doula to help ensure that birth plan was followed and to an advocate for us during the labor. After interviewing Erin, we immediately had a sense of comfort with her and knew she was the person we wanted in our corner. We hired her a little late in the process and as our baby came a little early, the first time we actually met Erin was as labor was starting! But she jumped right into it, making sure my wife was comfortable, that the room was a nice relaxing space for her, and that I was calm and relaxed as well. She always made sure to keep my wife positive and relaxed. We wound up having difficulties with our baby being stuck and had to get a C-section. After the doctor’s recommendation, Erin explained to us the pros and cons of both and reiterated that she would support our decision either way. We opted for the C-section since we were worried about the health of the baby. Erin immediately switched gears and got us emotionally prepped for what was going to happen. She stayed in the room with us, keeping both of us calm and reassuring us that everything was fine. Afterwards, she visited us a few times to follow up and make sure we were doing ok. I know that our experience would have been much more stressful and difficult if we didn’t have Erin there. I can’t recommend her enough to anyone who is looking for a doula, you will not be disappointed!
Erin was incredibly easy to work with and accomadating during our pregnancy. She made sure that our needs were met, both during pregnancy and during labor. She took the time to explain all of our possible options and help us figure out what our birth experience would be like. She is really down to earth and did not push anything on us- she let us tell her what we wanted her to do to help and then suggested things she could to make sure we had a positive experience. We went into the pregancy knowing we were going to deliver at the hospital and that I was going to get an epidural and any other pain management that was offered to me. We were not looking for an all natural or alternative (like home birth or birthing center) birth and she was totally ok with that.
I believe I was able to make it through my labor, especially my later painful contractions and when I had to push, because of Erin. She helped me with breathing techniques and rubbed my back with each contraction. When we went down to the labor and delivery room, she put up encouraging pictures and sayings and some nice candles to make the room feel a little less hospital like. She was super encouraging when I was pushing and kept me calm so I could push with new energy each time. My husband is wonderful but I knew I needed additional emotional support from someone that could really focus on me. And I was able to get that from Erin.
It has now been 6 days since our son was born and she has checked in every day to make sure we are doing alright and to see if we need anything from her. She has been very attentive and we would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a doula that is great with going with the flow.
