My husband and I we are expecting our first child and our plan was to have a natural birth so we hired a Doula for extra labor support as both of our families live out of state. We first met Katie when she taught our childbirth class at UNC hospitals. Her calm natured behavior was just what we needed to balance out our anxious/excited attitudes.
Katie met with us twice in our own home and reviewed many different techniques of exercises and different positions to help cope when early labor should arise.
When it was actually time to go to the hospital we kept Katie updated on my labor status. She met us at the hospital once I felt that my labor had progressed to where my husband and I needed the extra support. Due to unforseen circumstances, I was unable to have a natural childbirth but having the support of Katie there during the entire pushing of my labor helped my husband and I feel supported.
We would hire Katie again should we decide to have a second child in the future!
Simply put, my husband and I could not experienced an enjoyable given birth experience without Katie there. She was hands on when we needed her to be, knowledgeable, and patient. There was a point around 22 hours into labor when I vividly remember pleading "I can't do this!" and Katie said to me, "You're exactly where you are supposed to be right now." It's hard to put into words the confidence she instilled in my husband in me, and she consistently advocated for my comfort and care. Working with Katie is something we'll never forget - she is truly a gift.
Katie is so supportive and caring to expecting mothers! It doesn't matter if it is your first baby or your fourth, she is kind and compassionate through every step of your birthing journey.
Katie is the dream doula that you've always wanted. She has become a dear friend to me and a continued support and mentor. Katie has such a peaceful and calm demeanor and sends out a presence that is just so Serene to be around. It's exactly what you need when delivering a baby. She is very well educated and helped give me solid and grounded information to ponder about when making decisions before giving birth. Material on both pregnancy and delivering. She cares about the mother being educated and able to make informed decisions, and doesn't pressure you or try to persuade you with her ow opinion, but supported whatever I felt was right. Which I appreciated very much. She's an excellent listener and very compassionate and kind, very thoughtful and selfless. She's dependable and reliable and puts in hard work to make sure that you are taken care of in all the ways that you need as an individual. She has a passion for how powerful and strong women are and really helps you to feel that in yourself. Delivering a baby is no small task and she really helps you to prepare mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She truly has a desire to really be there for you through the whole journey and help create the experience you want.
I would highly recommend Katie to anyone! I was expecting my third baby and was really interested in having a natural birth experience. My husband was skeptical and not very supportive because we had two pretty good experiences with an epidural. It was so helpful to meet with Katie before the birth and learn positions to help while in labor, and to also give my husband more education on what physically happens with baby during birth. I wish I would have known more about my body for my other deliveries, and after my husband said that a natural birth just makes so much sense! I was so grateful that we had taken the time to meet with Katie! She is so knowledgeable and explains things in a way that simplifies that whole process! Though I wanted a natural birth, Katie was very supportive of whatever choices we were wanting to make with our birth. I know she would have supported me whether I went through with a natural birth or not- which was so comforting. I was able to tell her that I did not want an epidural, and she really helped support me in keeping focused on that goal. When it was time for birth, Katie was an incredible resource! I had never started labor on my own, and it was so nice to have someone to call and talk to. And when baby was on her way, Katie was right there! She stepped right in and helped support my body through contractions, and she helped show my husband how to support me so that he was involved as well. She supported me at home and when the time came for us to move to the hospital she was right there. The nurses had some suggestions, but they were distracted with different hospital protocols. So it was so amazing to have Katie there to be able to focus on me and really give my husband and I some direction and guidance. I can truly say that our natural birth experience has been my favorite birth so far, and having Katie there was a Huge part of that! Definitely worth the time and money to have her with you!
