I cannot say enough good things about Carrie. I am so glad that Carrie was my Doula and was there with me throughout my birth. Carrie genuinely cares about what she does and her clients and making sure that they not only get the best birth experience that they can, but also to make sure that in the moment, everyone feels comfortable with everything that’s going on around them. I would and will recommend Carrie to anyone who is either thinking about getting a Doula or is actively seeking a Doula.
I envisioned my birth being as "natural/unmedicated" as possible and wanted a Doula with me to help with pain management and avoiding unnecessary medical interventions. I interviewed several Doulas, and ended up choosing Carrie because of her bedside manner, familiarity with the hospital I'd be delivering at, and her general demeanor. In the last few weeks of my pregnancy, we created a birthplan and as my due date approached, Carrie was accessible and responsive to my (probably stupid) questions.
The beautiful birthplan we made went straight out the window after my water broke a week or so before my due date. Long story short, due to prolonged rupture, I required medically necessary interventions I did not initially plan on to safely deliver my baby, which Carrie was able to talk through with me and explain what the doctors didn't. I labored for 43 hours, total, with 5 hours of active pushing, and Carrie was there (almost) the whole time. We sent her home to get some sleep, but she was genuinely concerned about leaving us. When not assisting me with pain management, Carrie was like an extra pair of hands, helping me in and out of bed to the restroom, getting water and snacks, etc. Carrie literally stood by my side the entire time I was pushing, coaching me through. Carrie integrated herself into the team of nurses and doctors and I believe helped me avoid a c-section and deliver my baby vaginally.
Thank you so much, Carrie.
Carrie is such a calming and caring doula—we kept saying she is definitely made for this kind of work. She helped us prepare for our delivery despite 1-hiring her relatively later in pregnancy and 2-having an unexpected early inducement. After an over 48 hour labor, I ended up with a c-section. Even without her being able to coach us through delivery, the long labor was tough — so her demeanor, intelligence, and caring nature truly helped us through the experience. We are so appreciative, and truly believe everyone should have a doula!
Carrie was hands-down the right doula for me. She was one of four I interviewed, and we instantly connected. She was very professional but at the same time so personable. I was struck that Carrie had volunteered to assist at DOZENS of births prior to certification, mostly military wives whose husbands were deployed. Carrie is also trained medically, working in women's health at a nearby hospital. I knew right away she genuinely wanted to help laboring mothers and was both experienced and uber knowledgable.
She went above and beyond at every step. She came to my house for two prenatal visits and even came with me on a hospital tour because she was unfamiliar with the location. She reviewed my birth prep materials to get familiar with them and went over my birth plan/do say/don't say list, internalizing every word. During labor, she was so calm under pressure. She seemed to know intuitively when I was about to have a contraction and was right there to help me through each one. She reminded me to eat before we left, then had the foresight to sit behind my seat in the car so she could do her magic double-hip squeeze during every contraction. The labor definitely went faster with the techniques she used. She kept me upright, reminded me to relax my muscles, and gave me pep talks in between contractions when I didn't think I could do it anymore. With her help, I brought a healthy baby girl into the world completely unmedicated. Carrie then stayed nearby, getting us breakfast, accompanying us to the recovery room, and checking in by text later that day. At our post-natal visit, we laughed and shared stories, and she even shed a few tears with me about how beautiful it had all been. I am so blessed to have found a doula whose passion shines through every aspect of her work. She truly has a sixth sense for all things birth-related. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone!
My husband and I met Carrie through our group Centering class at our hospital. From the day we met Carrie, she was warm, approachable, and kind enough to answer all the questions that come with first-time parents. We weren't originally planning on hiring one but when we heard that Carrie was a practicing Doula, we knew we wanted her to help us navigate the birth of our baby girl. We met a few times in our home to go over how she would be supporting us and what we could expect from her. She also had alot of great questions for us that would allow her to cater her plan to us. For example, she wanted to know what scented candles I like (and don't like) in the house., what type of foods I would like, and affirmations that would bring me strength. Also, I wanted a med-free birth but in the case that I decided that I wanted the epidural, we came up with a code word so she knew I wanted it.
The morning that I went into labor, Carrie was at our house within an hour of us requesting her. She helped me to labor at home as long as possible; offering new positions, encouraging fluids, and asking questions to gauge how far along I might be. At the hospital, she did more 'double-hip-squeezes' than I could possibly count (they are magic!). I could have been standing anywhere in the room and without looking behind me, sat down, and she was right there to hold me up. I was able to have the birth that I hoped for (without an epidural/pitosin/vaccuum/etc) and I owe alot of that to Carrie. She kept my spirits high and my pain low. Without hesitation, I will be asking for Carrie again when we are ready for baby#2.
Carrie was my back-up Doula. She attended my last pre-natal visit before my birth and was there for labor/birth. I would say ultimately, carrie was amazing. She works in the medical field and therefore knew exactly what was going on in the hospital and what ways to help me cope. She gave me massages, counter pressure, and brought candles to help set the mood. If I needed anything she was on top of it during my birth, and I rarely had to ask for anything. Carrie definietely a gem, and I'd recommend her to anyone who's searching for a doula that has both medical and birth experience.
