When I decide at 31 weeks pregnant to go for a VBa2C, I didn't know that I would be connected to an extremely beautiful and kind doula, Angela Jenks, who would play an integral part in the safe delivery of my third daughter. There really are no words to describe labor accurately to someone who hasn't gone through it. I can only say that the beginning was terrifyingly painful. Unlike the start of my labor with my second, this was hard and fast and intense. Angela's doula partner, Celeste, kept me focused over the phone and determined that yes, it was time to head to hospital. Due to the time of the day (middle of the night/wee morning hours), Angela was the one who arrived to save my sanity. My simultaneously out-of-body and intensely aware process of labor was narrated by a calm, knowing voice--that of Angela. With fear, pain intensifies. Angela was a constant reminder not to fear. That I wouldn't die. I wasn't going to fail. My baby was going to enter this world the way that God had designed. Angela reminded me to breathe and not to tense up. She coached my husband on how to best apply counter pressure to my back and stepped in to apply pressure herself when his hands were tired. When I felt like a knocked-out boxer (the room spinning and my ears ringing), Angela was able to break through the fog of exhaustion and reach my longing heart. She told me I was going to have this baby, and I believed her. I knew it was true, but she believed in me even when the taunting voice inside tried to speak lies about me not being good enough. About me being crazy to fight so hard to want a natural, unmedicated birth.
My daughter was born 10 hours after labor started--a perfect 8 lbs 14 oz. I was given so much encouragement both before and after her delivery, but only God could reach me when I was inside myself. His voice sounded a lot like Angela's. I am forever grateful that I hired Angela as my doula and will use her for any future births I have.
My husband and I are so glad that we hired Angela as a doula for the birth of our first child! We wanted to hire a doula because I had a lot of fears and anxieties about giving birth. I also wanted to try to give birth without medication and thought that a doula would help me to achieve that goal. When we first sat down with Angela and her partner Celeste, we were impressed with their knowledge and experience. The support they provided before and especially during and after the birth was very helpful to us. Angela's presence during the birth of my daughter had an incredibly calming effect on me. She is a soft-spoken and kind person, but she's also reassuring and helped me to gain strength during the hardest parts of my labor. I was able to go through the birthing experience without medication. I don't think I would've been able to achieve this goal without Angela; she kept me focused and confident that I could work through the pain. My husband and I would highly recommend Angela to anyone!
I am so beyond grateful to have been blessed with such a wonderful doula. Angela was truly more than we could have expected during pregnancy and birth. A couple of key factors that I’d like to note:
1. This was our first pregnant, so everything was still unknown & Angela and her partner Celeste were always available for information and support.
2. Both, Angela and Celeste were very knowledgeable in many different ways. They were able to provide us with information for each trimester and what to expect.
3. Angela was there for the whole labor and birth of our first child. It was more like family and not just a random doula. She was able to make us feel calm, collected and comfortable during the whole process. I really believe that part of the reason I loved the natural birthing route so much was because Angela was able to coach and help me through it. She was there to talk me through the tougher times, when we all feel like we could give up.
My husband and I will for sure have her again for our next pregnancy. The support and Love that both doulas offered us was far more than we could have asked for. We are so thankful for the both of them.. 120% would recommend them to anyone!
Angela was invaluable to us during the birth of our first child. At first I thought doulas were only beneficial to those who wanted a natural birth, but Angela proved that to be SO untrue! We did not want a specific birth plan and preferred to remain flexible with our options. Angela never once tried to sway us in any one direction. She remained nonjudgmental and supported our every decision, including the epidural and C-section I ended up needing. After my epidural I labored for a long time without being able to leave the bed, so Angela helped move me into positions that would ease my discomfort and help the baby shift into an ideal position for delivery, which I never would have known to do on my own. I could tell the nurses were impressed with her knowledge! Angela was respectful of the hospital staff and seamlessly fit herself in with the nurses and doctors to work with them as a team. She has a very calming presence that kept me, my husband, and my family at ease. She made me feel so comfortable in an otherwise uncomfortable situation and provided exactly what I needed when I needed it without me ever having to ask for anything. Even after we brought our son home Angela regularly checked in via phone and visited in person to provide emotional support and reassurance. Angela made us realize the incredible value of a doula and we would highly recommend her to anyone.
We had Angela as our doula for the birth of our first baby, and we are so glad to have such an wonderful personality around. She is fantastic, very kind, knowledgable and very helpful over the entire prenatal and during the labor. My wife is in induced labor for almost 43 hours of labor which ended up in C-section lately. One can imagine how painful it is to be in this situation, but without Angela around, we can't go through this at all. She left an immense memories during this journey, and we are very thankful and happy to say "ANJELA is part of our FAMILY" here after.
Thankyou, Angela. We love you alot ! This is the least we can speak of you.
I contacted Angela after I found out that baby had turned transverse at 37 weeks. She promptly arrived at our home to do some baby spinning techniques. She also gave me some exercises and ideas to help baby turn back downward. She stayed in constant contact with me the whole weekend and then eventually through the delivery. We were successful in getting baby back to head down. I would highly recommend Anglea to anyone. She is kind, gentle and extremely knowledgeable. Definitely an asset to our delivery. So very thankful for her help and guidance.
