We originally hired Rachel as our doula because we were hoping for a natural, hypnobabies birth. That unfortunately wasn't in the cards for us, as I ended up needing just about every medical intervention possible (induction due to pre-eclampsia, epidural, emergency c-section, etc). Rachel was amazing throughout everything--she provide clear recommendations based on our situation and was incredibly supportive of every choice we made. Most importantly, she was such a beacon of support for dad and baby while mom was otherwise engaged and stayed with us through the night until she was sure that we felt safe and secure. We are so happy that we worked with her and couldn't imagine having anyone else with us on this day. We would highly recommend Rachel regardless of your birthing plan. Thanks for everything, Rachel!
Rachel is worth her weight in gold! We absolutely loved being able to work with her, and felt really lucky to have her as a doula for our first birthing experience. She is warm, kind, reliable, creative, quick-thinking, assertive, and experienced- exactly the kind of person we wanted on our team when trying to have a natural Hypnobabies birth in a hospital setting. (Note- she's a Hypnobabies instructor, and her expertise with Hypnobabies was really great to have).
Rachel ended up providing a lot of support for us at the end of my pregnancy. After having an initial 'consult' where we talked through different birthing positions and comfort measures, the plan had been to simply call her again when I was actually in my birthing time; however, at 38 weeks, my little one was suddenly in breech presentation! Rachel was full of ideas and suggestions for how to encourage him to flip back around, and then came with me to the hospital for an external version a week later- which is when we discovered he had already flipped back to being head-down! Score one for Rachel!
Just a few days later, I felt strong contractions and believed I was in my birthing time; Rachel came to the house quickly and spent a long night with us; in the morning we went to the hospital, and Rachel just made everything easier: she talked with the nurses and doctors (and family!), ran a bath for me, and, when my pressure waves started decreasing, tried every trick in her book to get them going again- to no avail.
After it was clear that I wasn't going to give birth that day, we all went home- let's call it a dress rehearsal. A week later, the real deal came, and she was just magnificent the whole way through: comforting, encouraging, gently assertive with the nurses and doctors. Just everything we could have hoped for.
Bonus: she's an excellent photographer, and the video/photo montage was just beautiful!
