My experience with Betsy Finchum as my doula was absolutely amazing. This was my fourth delivery but first time to have a doula. I expected this labor and delivery to be quick and easy but it was not. From the time my water broke to the time my son was born was 29 and a half hours. Betsy was by my sideĀ  and anticipated my every need. If it was something to drink or a massage or some encouragement she knew exactly what I needed. She was my advocate when things were too overwhelming for my husband and I. She played a huge role in insuring that I had the unmedicated birth that I wanted. I highly recommend using Betsy Finchum for your Doula services. It will make all the difference in the world in your birth experience.

Having a doula help me throughout labor was never something I had thought about. I didn't even know what a doula was before I became pregnant!
I had a plan for my sons birth just as any mother does. As his due date approached, and eventually passed, that plan had to change. He ended up being fifteen days past due and so we had to go to a completely new place for his birth since our birthing center could not take overdue babies. My plan was thrown off and I had a new list of things to think about- do I want an epidural? Petocin? Obgyn or hospital midwife?
Betsy came onto the scene and helped me in every way possible. She made sure I was educated on everything that might happen. She helped me know what my rights were, what I could ask for, and what I could say no to as a person making decisions concerning my child's birth. She took on hours of being by my side and invested her energy, knowledge, and kindness to make sure I had the best experience I could have! She helped me move around the room during labor, knew what would help to relieve pressure during contractions, and suggested positions that would help the baby have an easier way to enter the world. I had both my husband and my mother with me. When they were tired, Betsy stood by my side to ensure that I was well taken care of and as comfortable as I could be. I was never left alone- because that is what I wanted. Betsy held no judgement towards me or any of the decisions I made. She was happy and thoroughly invested in the whole process. I would highly recommend having Betsy to stand by your side in the process of bringing beautiful life into the world. She helped make everything seamless and peaceful, and brought so much joy into the process, and she will absolutely do the same for you and your child.

I didn't really understand the need for a doula, but I was pregnant with my second, and I knew Betsy was born for this line of work, so she became part of the team. Wow, am I ever grateful! Betsy was everything - a calming presence, a source of strength and encouragement, a mediator among medical personnel, and a voice of reason with my husband. I spent most of my 18 hour labor at home, but Betsy was available through the night. She met us at the hospital, and she empowered me through contractions, both with emotional and physical support. Her presence allowed my husband to be present to take it all in - and he was free to experience the birth without pressure or responsibility, so he could emotionally connect. This was important because things moved very rapidly at the hospital. This was my first time giving birth naturally. Poor Betsy had bruises on her arms from my grip! But her voice was confident and reassuring, and after ten minutes' pushing, she was there snapping photos as I held my son, utterly amazed that he had arrived already. I know I could have done it without her, but I wouldn't want to. My husband and I agreed that she is invaluable, and we'd easily hire Betsy again in a heartbeat. Given the contrast between our first (highly medicated, induced) birth and this one, we hope others can have equally redemptive experiences, and Betsy was a huge factor in that. Please give her the opportunity to be a blessing to you!

Betsy Finchum was our doula for the birth of my first child on August 19, 2016. She was incredibly helpful before, during and after the birth. She was available anytime we needed her and went above and beyond what was necessary!
My husband and I absolutely would not have had our successful and amazing birth experience without her help. When we have another child we would definitely ask for her help again or recommend her to any one in need of the exceptional help from a doula.
