Attends birth center births? All Birth Centers
I am absolutely comfortable in the birth center setting.
Attends home births? Any Home Birth
I have assisted at many homebirths.
I have volunteered with a midwife as an assistant for 6 months. I also worked as a volunteer with domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. I currently volunteer for Big Ocean Women as the domestic cottage administrator.
My desire is that more pregnant people can have access to doula services. I offer a student rate! Contact me for more details. I have a BS degree in Psychology and minor in Family and Human Development and Dance; while raising my four children I have intermittently worked as a Social Service Worker in a variety of settings and have always assisted women and families. Most recently working in the maternal mental health field. I would describe myself as an advocate for women's physical, spiritual and mental health. Transitioning into the birth world has been seamless. My greatest strength is helping women find their own answers and power within themselves.

Rebecca Madsen helped coach me through a natural, and un-medicated birth of our 2nd baby who was born at 10 pounds 9 ounces!!! Rebecca was an immense and critical part of preparing, encouraging, and assisting me through this journey.
My husband and I moved here from Los Angeles, CA and were looking for a birth doula. Several close friends recommended Rebecca to us, and it was a perfect match! Rebecca has a very calm, yet powerful and knowledgeable presence. From our first prenatal visit where she sat with my husband and I, listened to our hopes and desires, and walked us through various preparation for our upcoming birth; I felt so grateful and blessed to have her as part of our birthing team.
Through the months leading up to the birth, Rebecca gave terrific support as she consistently checked in with me. She was always available for phone calls, or texting and would take time to send me links and suggestions on any topics or concerns that I had. I truly felt that Rebecca had my best interest and was ready to support and make sure each point on my birth plan would be followed and executed to follow me and my husbands desires.
I went into labor at 2am and called Rebecca to come assist me laboring at home before heading to the hospital. She arrived at my home within minutes of my call and helped me have such a relaxing and calm early labor. Once arriving to the hospital I was nearly dilated to a 6 and contractions were progressing with extreme intensity. I would not have been able to have an un-medicated birth without Rebecca’s counter-pressure techniques on each contraction, and consistent words of encouragement. From the first contraction at 2am to the time our baby was born was 4.5 hours!! And I will forever credit a BIG part of that to the magnificent and loving assistance from Rebecca!!! We are so grateful for you!!! Thank you so much!!!!!
Such a blessing to have Rebecca be a part of my birth team! I had very specific goals I wanted to reach during the birth of my son and she was a huge reason I reached them. She helped me stay relaxed during my contractions and the counter pressure techniques she performed made the biggest difference in keeping my discomfort bearable. Her encouraging words and positive attitude kept me going during my unmedicated labor and birth. She also met with me a few times before the birth and was instrumental in helping me work through trauma from a previous birth. Her presence made all the difference and I couldn't be more grateful! We love Rebecca!
Rebecca is an amazing doula. She respects your choices and advocates for them. She helped us with our baby’s birth at the Orem Community Hospital, and I’m glad we had her. While I was yelling things in pain trying to push a baby out, Rebecca took the time to listen to me and put my words into calmer, more collected sentences to tell the nurses so that I would receive the help I needed. It was so nice. She helped with some of the labor at our house, and met us at the hospital to continue helping, which is just what we wanted. If we were still going to be in Utah, I would want her again for my next baby!
Rebecca was such a great help for my husband and I when I gave birth to my daughter. She lasted the whole 21 hours of labor with us. She did great giving me acupressure during my surges and cheering me on. I totally recommend her!
Our experience with Rebecca was quite unique. The doula I had originally hired and worked with all throughout my pregnancy turned out to be busy with another birth the day I went into labor, and not only that, but her backup doula was at a birth too. So when Rebecca arrived at the hospital as my "backup-to-my-backup" doula we had never even met. However, the minute she walked in to my room I felt completely calm and assured of her ability. She was warm and gentle and started right away to get to know me and my desires for my birth. Despite only discussing my desires for that short introduction, she was constantly on top of reminding me of the things I wanted when I was too focused to remember them myself (using the tub, playing music, changing positions, etc). It was as if she and I had been working together my whole pregnancy. I only ever heard her share words of support and encouragement which sank into consciousness and made me feel so strong during my unmedicated birth. My husband also appreciated her help to know the techniques he could use to support me, and he said he loved feeling useful and supportive to me during my labor. We are so incredibly grateful for Rebecca for her willingness to attend our birth on such quick notice. She helped me have the exact birth experience I wanted and I feel so empowered and grateful for it!
Rebecca was everything I expected and needed from a doula! I didn't have a doula my last pregnancy and I really didn't think I needed one. Oh, was I wrong! I prepared physically and mentally, but needed emotional and spiritual preparation.
Rebecca used ice to help us simulate the pain of a contraction. I found that I could visualize and breathe to cope, but also that talking and laughing through the pain made the minute of holding the ice go by WAY faster. Another exercise was J hook breathing, she told me to use this breathing every time I used the bathroom to simulate pushing my baby out. Eventually this J hook breathing became so natural that I didn't even think about it when it came time to push my baby out. At our last class she taught us about counter-pressure and how our spouse or Rebecca would use counter-pressure during the contractions to relieve some of the pressure on our pelvis.
This labor was WAY different from my last experience, both unmedicated and in hospitals. I started having contractions late in the night, and got to the hospital around 12:30am. Rebecca drove an hour and met us at our hospital. We laughed and talked, Rebecca and my husband used counter-pressure and I hardly felt any pain during the contractions. At 3:42am I had my darling baby girl after using the J hook breathing/pushing my baby came out in less than a minute.
Rebecca did wonderful exercises during her classes that helped me realize the disappointment and anxiety I was holding from my previous labor and the upcoming labor. I loved the focus on accepting everything that comes, and knowing that it's all part of the plan. I loved talking with the group of women who were also expecting, voicing our fears and past experiences. I would recommend Rebecca to all my friends and family. Thank you Rebecca for your dedication to women and their journey through pregnancy and labor!
While trying to find a doula, it is hard to just look at a profile and a photo to get the real feel of a person. But I usually go by my gut with things and I was impressed with Rebecca's profile and felt right about contacting her. After one video call, I felt a good connection with her and felt like her openness to help support me in what I wanted out of a birth was very apparent. She had a calming demeanor to me and one that would be guiding and kind in the time of need. My birthing hopes/ideal birth was to do a natural birth, so Rebecca became a pertinent piece in my husband and my ability to fulfill those wishes. She gave me realistic expectations and also guided me with calming affirmations and reminders of how to breath and open up. She switched off with my husband pushing on pressure points that relieved a lot of the back pain and would encourage him with things that might help me even more. If we didn't have Rebecca, I think both of us would have buckled in the pressure of the 3 hours of hard pushing/labor. Thank you Rebecca for being the support we needed through a gruelling yet amazing birth! You are amazing!
Where to begin? When I got pregnant with baby #2 my dream was an all natural birthing experience. My first child was born via c-section due to breech presentation. I had been doing research on the different birthing techniques and the word DOULA popped up, I had never heard of a duala before. The more the read, the more I thought "I need one of those!". I came across this page filled with a beautiful story about a humming bird. I contacted Rebecca, and I just knew she was the one! My soul connected with her aura from the start. The first time she met me she listened, she CARED. When the time got closer for my baby to enter the world, Rebecca was there for me, I felt closer to her than my doctor and I needed that trust! The day came to have my baby, It wasnt starting off as planned, the baby wasnt passing the NST's and they sent me for an induction .I thought the world had ended because thats an intervention I didnt want. Rebecca was by my side so fast! I breathed a sigh of relief when she arived. As the evening went on I was being pushed so hard to be given pitocine, even tho, after they had broken my water, I was contracting. Rebecca let me know that I didnt have to let them boss me around lol. Since the baby hadnt been doing great that day, we opted for pitocine. What happened was fast and I was now having unbearable contractions back to back! Rebecca showed my husband what to do through the pain. Things were just not going my way and we decided an epidural was best. I assumed that once I got the epi, that Rebecca would leave because I wasnt needing help with contractions, but no, this amazing woman stayed by my side, she made me feel at peace with every decision I had made, I didnt feel like I let anyone down. I ended up having a rough Birth, but she was there and has also been here for me post partum. The day I hired her to be my duala, I gained an amazing friend.
I not only had Rebecca as my doula, I had the opportuinity to take a Birthing from Within Class from her, as well.
She is very knolwedgable about birth and is such a calming influence.
While this was my 4th birth and I knew what I was doing, I loved having her peaceful presence there. She brought strength to my birthing atmosphere and reminded me to keep my breath low. She fed me soup aftwerwards whie I was nursing baby and helped me get to the toilet and into the shower.
I loved having her support at this birth and wish I could have had her at my others!
I high recommend her!
My husband and I had the pleasure of attending Rebecca's Birthing from Within class during the last part of my pregnancy. I loved the calm and inspiring demeanor she has, and the reverence she inspires for the journey of birth. She helped me understand ideas that I hadn't understood before, and helped me to feel calm in the face of worries that I had about possibly having to repeat some of the same experiences I had with my first birth. As it turned out, this birth was completely different from my first. It went so fast, I hardly knew what hit me! But I can tell you that my husband and I felt a huge sense of relief when Rebecca walked through the door. We appreciated the emotional and physical strength she provided through that last hour of intense labor. I'm glad she was there!
Rebecca was nothing short of wonderous at our son's birth. She was empowering yet peaceful, tender yet strong, wise yet sensitive, hilarious yet reverent, attentive yet observant, . . . In short she was the most perfect escort for my new baby boy's arrival. My husband and I loved how she helped us work as a team to feel deeply the miracle of birth.
I am so glad I had the chance to work with Rebecca. She is so kind and really cares about her clients. She was extremely supportive and understanding and helped me and my husband feel so comfortable during my labor. She has a way of bringing positivity and peace with her and helped keep us very calm, especially during the most difficult part of my labor. Being a mother of four herself and her level of experience allowed her to understand and respond to what I needed quickly and truly made the entire labor and delivery experience very positive for me. She brought with her so much positivity and kindness that helped lighten the mood of the room and kept me very calm and relaxed the entire time. As a first time mom, I had goals for my labor and delivery and I honestly think that if Rebecca were not there, I wouldn't have achieved them. Her support and advice helped immensely! I couldn't recommend her enough and I'm so grateful that she was there!
I LOVED Rebecca! I was already pleased to have my sister as my midwife, but then with Rebecca there too I felt completely safe and ready to go. I felt Rebecca's presence to be very confident and assuring, two things you're definitely looking for when in labor! She wasn't only stable in that way either, she was also very flexible and meek. She had such a fantastic ability to empower what may come and go with it. I truly felt blessed beyond my needs like I was receiving a royal status to have the presence of both my sister and Rebecca; Angels! No question. I was truly empowered by Rebecca's abilities at my birth and I told my sister I REALLY liked having her there. :)))
Rebecca is one of the most kind and sincere people I know. She has a way of bringing peace and calm to high stress situations and brings a level of serenity into the room. I was an extreme case, and she helped bring the tension in the room down to quiet and soft tones. Which is just what I needed, as my blood pressure skyrocketed, and I was burning up from the magnesium I was given. She repeatedly brought cool cloths and spoke words of encouragement throughout. The doctors and nurses were on high alert and she seemed to help them as well. I was grateful for her guidance and tools as I was preparing to bring my little one into the world. Her experience is invaluable, having four children of her own. I not only admire her as a doula but as a graceful woman with power and strength to share. I highly recommend Rebecca as a coach and mentor through your own journey. She is the very BEST! I wish you well, and hope you are able to choose the path that will bring you peace and confidence in your own "love story" of bringing your baby into the world.
