I've been meaning to write this testimonial for many months now. Every time I try and sit down to describe my experience with Vanessa, I feel like it's lacking somehow. Vanessa deserves an amazing review, so I'm going to try my best.
She is, at the core, a great listener. During our two prenatal meetings, Vanessa asked many questions, offered a lot of evidence-based resources (she often followed up via email), and listened deeply to better understand our perspectives. She understood that birthing is not only physiological, but also the emotional; when I wanted to talk about something unrelated to birth itself, she would listen.
I was with Vanessa for almost 5 hours during labor before my midwife showed up. During that time Vanessa offered tremendous support: emotional, physical, logistical. We had a home birth and my baby came two weeks early, so naturally, a lot of items were scattered around and my husband and I felt a little disheveled. Vanessa did a tremendous job grounding us and supporting us during all stages of labor. She knew instinctively whether she should be supporting me directly or indirectly through my husband.
When contractions came back to back, coupled with back pain, Vanessa knew what was happening: my baby was not in optimal position. So she helped us through the Miles Circuit. She offered moral support during the less-than-comfortable positions. And when we were done, miraculously, the back pain stopped. It worked! This, by the way, happened well before my midwives showed up. And even when my midwives took charge, Vanessa's presence still calmed me, made me feel capable. Vanessa captured my baby's birth on camera, and I'm forever grateful to her for this.
Postpartum, Vanessa helped me with breastfeeding (her guidance was SO helpful!) and she also helped me through some personal and emotional challenges. She made me feel safe, supported, and strong. Thank you Vanessa!
Vanessa is amazing. She supported me in bringing my July baby earth side after 8 years of secondary infertility. I had given birth before and thought it was possible I didn't 'need help' & 'I've done it before without a doula I can do it again without a doula' but I am so glad I didn't let those misplaced thoughts deter me from seeking out Vanessa. I'm admittedly a very high strung person but she was such an amazing fit for my experience I'll be forever grateful for her unwavering support and innovative ideas in the throes of labor. She is truly meant for this profession.
I met Vanessa in my 3rd trimester, I was working full-time, finalizing an adoption and suprised with pregnancy, I was almost at crash and burn when we met. Vanessa listened to me and helped me advocate for myself with all the rapid changes happening in my life. At some point during my labor I remeber her applying pressure through each contraction to my foot distracting me from the pain (this was so soothing). Everytime I lost my rhythm during a strong contraction she would guide me back with her breathing. She also helped with photos and recording and literally spoon fed me right after i gave birth because I was trying to make sure everyone else was ok and fed after baby was born. Vanessa is passionate about what she does and you can tell this from the quality of her work and I hate to say "work" because she does not make it feel that way. Vanessa, you helped me give birth to my baby at home, in my apartment and were a part of a team of people who allowed me to make informed desicions about what I wanted for myself, my birth and my baby. Thanks for being that tita during a time in my life that I needed all the support that I could get. During a time where I was dealing with mental health challenges and being there for me and my growing family.
I was 4cm dilated and although I was not making progress with dilation my contractions were picking up. Vanessa suggested a great exercise to do as I walked the halls of the hospital waiting for baby. My doula was caught up at another birth and Vanessa filled in. It was truly a blessing having Vanessa by side. We had never met but it didn’t feel like that at all. It was my third delivery and my previous two were vaginal deliveries. Due to baby not coming down fast enough the OB communicated I only had one hour and if babies position didn’t change I would have a C section. Vanessa was quick with suggestions to help baby get in the right position. She lead our team (the nurse, my partner and I) and we were successful. Vanessa’s expertise and calm presence was what I needed at that moment. I am forever grateful to her.
She is awesome, professional, am feel like my Mom,she treat me over my expectation.
She is punctual, great communication for understanding my feeling and what I want to something. She is 10 out of 10 star.Am delighted for her service. Thanks Vanessa. GOD BLESS U AND YOUR FAMILY. THNAKS.
Working with Vanessa was one of the best decisions we made for our growing family! As first time moms, my wife and I so appreciated having someone on this journey with us who genuinely wanted to understand our goals and us as humans so that she could best advocate for us in the hospital and support us before and after the baby came.
When I was in labor, circumstances made it so that nothing in my birth plan was applicable anymore, and Vanessa did an amazing job of keeping me calm and making sure that we understood what was happening and what I was able to request to have as much control over the birth as possible. Our post-partum visits have been invaliuable- Vanessa is always armed with ideas and resources, and we were always able to cover a wide variety of topics during this time. I felt like a more confident parent after each of these visits. My wife and I were so happy with Vanessa as our doula and recommend her to anyone who is looking to have someone else in their court as they prepare for a baby!
Vanessa was a wonderful doula! She really helped calm my fears around the whole birthing process. I felt very supported by her. When I didn't get to deliver how I had wanted she helped me be okay with the change in plans. I had more than one hospital stay while pregnant and Vanessa was there to visit me and bring me things I forgot like a phone charger. I had a c-section and i am just so happy she was there! She helped keep me calm and took pictures of my baby for me. Shes stayed around for a long time after I delivered my baby to make sure I was okay and to help me. Vanessa is just very knowledgeable and comforting. And I'm just happy I got to know her and she was apart of my birthing story!
I cannot express how glad we are that we found Vanessa. This was my first pregnancy and birth, and Vanessa was our lucky charm. She was there for me at every turn, whenever I needed her-- before, during, and after my birth. She was extremely educated, helpful, and intuitive, without ever being preachy or judgemental. I had a wonderful experience giving birth at a birth center, and her presence was paramount-- she somehow seemed to know exactly what I needed at every moment. She was an absolute dream of a doula (and person!) and I would recommend her to anyone wanting a beautiful birth experience.
Vanessa is WONDERFUL! I cannot imagine our birth without her. My baby's due date was in July around the time Vanessa had anticipated being out of town, but we liked her so much and she was so great about having a backup doula (who was also wonderful!) that we decided to work with her anyway. My baby ended up being delivered two weeks early, so we were glad Vanessa was around to help us. She's very knowledgable, but more importantly, has a very calming demeanor that helped a lot during labor. She knew exactly when to step in and help and when to step back and offer support to my partner. We highly recommend her as a doula!
Vanessa was hands down, absolutely amazing. We interviewed a couple of doulas, all of whom were knowledgeable, but ended up going with Vanessa because she is so positive and easy to talk to openly. She provided plenty of valuable information before labor. Showed up right on time for labor and was right into action. Our birth plan went right on track, and I certainly believe it was a huge thanks to her for keeping me together and moving forward through it all. She’s been a great support following the birth, as having someone there with the knowledge of newborns but that is non-judgemental has proven to be key. I hugely recommend Vanessa - Five beaming gold stars from our family.
Vanessa is a very thoughtful and caring doula who has a lot of passion for being a birth worker and for babies. My labor was 46 hours long and Vanessa was extremely helpful to me when I labored at home and to me and my wife when we were traversing to and from our home to the hospital...and having lengthy pro dromal labor. Without her support we would have felt quite stressed and had to call in for extra people to come in last minute; this would not have been ideal as it would have created a stressful environment. She was able to provide lots of positive comments like trying to take the contraction one at a time. We really liked that Vanessa said she wanted to help us to have a positive memory of our birth experience, provided us with recommendations on things like contraction timers and birth/parenting/pregnancy books, and was someone we could feel supported by during the early signs of labor. She also captured some beautiful pics and video of my daughter just after she was being born, which was a happy and wonderful memory for our family.
Having Vanessa by our side when we were preparing for labor, during labor, and during the postpartum period just the best decision we could have taken. She was, first of all, very kind and caring. She wanted us to have a wonderful experience and provided us with a lot of knowledge and showed us a lot of options that we could take during labor. She was very professional during the meetings and throughout the process. Probably one thing that would make a difference in working with her was how much she cared about us 3 after the delivery. She was very present and tried to help us navigate the issues that arrived after delivery.
We will be forever thankful for her help and support!
I am so happy that I had Vanessa as my doula. My first birth was very difficult & I wish I could have had more support. This time, I did! Despite having to get a cesarean, she was with me every step of the way. She helped me with breastfeeding & affirmed my choices to nurse, pump & bottle-feed my baby. She is easy to talk to & was able to point me in the right direction for any of my concerns. Sometimes, it’s hard to ask the doctors for clarification about certain things. She always encouraged me to ask the questions again if things were not clear. She didn’t speak for me; she did something better. She encouraged & supported me to speak for myself! Again, I am so glad that I had her as my doula to support me, and it made a huge diffenent during my pregnancy and delivery period.
