Working with Megan during what would be one of the most vulnerable and joyful part of our lives allowed us to be fully present for all the twists and turns that our birth was. Throughout it all, Megan was steady as a rock for us, but also fluid and flexible in helping me throughout my difficult labor.
Late into my pregnancy, we unexpectedly had to change providers. What could have been a stressful process, Megan facilitated with peace and support. She kindly provided us with referrals, offered to talk over our the decision, and supported us in finding a provider that honored our preferences and needs.
What I believe sets Megan apart is the vision work she facillitated for me and my husband. During one of our meetings, she had us do meaningful couples' work that encouraged us to reflect on each other's strengths and weaknesses, show love and appreciation for each other, and talk about the kind of parents we hoped the other would be. She held space for us as to mentally and emotionally prepare for this new being that was about to enter our family. In a time where you are so focused on childbirth classes, registries, checking boxes for childcare and hospital bags, Megan carved out a space for us to breathe and reflect on what happens when the birth is over and everyday life begins. She is truly supportive and caring for women and families during the postpartum period.
On a personal note, Megan offered me peace and comfort that I especially needed during my pregnancy. My own mother passed away a few weeks after I found out I was expecting. This event made my pregnancy and the birth of my daughter wrought with emotional highs and lows--longing to share my journey with my mama and also anxiously waiting to meet my daughter to somehow "see" my mom again. Whether she knew it or not, Megan's presence breathed a maternal one, and helped me to have the strength to carry on with grace, as my mother would have loved to see me do.
Megan is absolutely amazing! My husband and I we’re feeling unprepared and a bit anxious before we met with her, and then after wwards we left feeling informed and ready for what is to come! I’m beyond thankful for her time and expertise. She gave us all the info we needed to go into this as confident parents. I highly recommend her, especially for those new moms like me. What she taught us was more valuable than anything I’ve read or even heard from my own doctor.
I enjoyed working with Megan very much. She was a great comfort to me and my wife when we had our (first) baby. She guided us through some wonderful exercises which calmed our fears, focused our intentions, got us excited about the coming changes to our family, and prepared us for the difficult decisions and pain of childbirth. This last part is important. She even made sure that I, as a husband, was ready to witness my wife's great struggle. This has meant so much to me as a man. I felt like Megan helped me to support my wife from a place of strength and calmness rather than fear and panic.
I also really loved how Megan brought awareness to our changing roles from single people to mother and father and what that means. She had us do some vision work which aligned the anticipations and fears between me and my wife.
Lastly, Megan provided support that was driven by a perfect balance of ideas that were evidence-based and ideas that do not (yet) have evidence. If something is shown not to be effective by evidence, I want to know about it. But I also don't want to dismiss options that have not yet been investigated or are simply overlooked.
I can't recommend Megan enough.
My husband and I are preparing for our first home birth. We thought that with already having birthed two boys together, we were veterans and that there wouldn't be much for Megan to offer. We couldn't have been more wrong! Megan took us through the house, showing us how to use what we already have on hand to ease pain and maintain a relaxed environment. She then took us through some pain management exercises, showing how both my husband and I deal with pain and sharing what might be helpful during contractions. From the second I saw her, I felt at ease because of her warm and calming disposition. What a smart move it was for us to meet with Megan!! I'd recommend her to anyone!
Megan was an incredible support during my labor and I could not have done it without her. It was our first child and it was so nice to have someone to support both my husband and I. She knew just what I needed when I needed it. I was having significant lower back discomfort and the rice heating pad she brought with her was a life saver. She used massage and pressure in between contractions and it was so nice to have that knoweldgable touch. She also knew exactly what kind of music I needed when I would grunt at her to change it. Having an experienced doula makes all the difference in the world and I am so thankful we had Megan there for the birth of our son.
