Since September 2016, I have worked as a Childbirth and Lactation Educator with Parent Trust for Washington Children. From December 2015 to May 2016, I volunteered as a birth doula with the Birth Partners program at the North Carolina Womens Hospital. I am currently studying to complete my Master of Public Health in Maternal and Child Health at the University of Washington. Previous work experience includes elementary school education.
My birth package includes two prenatal visits, continuous labor support until two hours after birth, and one postpartum visit. I will be on-call from 38 weeks until your birth. I am available for phone or email consultations throughout your pregnancy and six weeks postpartum. Hiring a doula is a very personal decision. It's important to find the right match. To support you on this journey, I provide a complimentary meet-and-greet as an opportunity to introduce myself and to discuss your needs and values. Please contact me for more information.

Jing and I love Cate and would definitely recommend her services to all couples--especially those who are having their first baby!
Cate was the instructor of our pre-parenting class, we already loved her for her great class. The baby is our first and both of us had little time thinking much about how to cope with the labor & delivery process--which we had zero experiences about. Although we benefited significantly from Cate's class, we were still very nervous and seriously considering hiring a professional doula. When we knew Cate also offered Doula service we were thrilled--the class was the best interview, and we had a strong feeling that she would be reliable and would do a great job.
Cate did not let us down. Once we signed her service contract and officially had her as our doula, she started to play a very proactive role in getting us ready for the process. From time to time, she would email or text us and have phone conversations with us, to check in, ask questions, raise concerns and offer suggestions, and make reminders. We felt we were being taken care of, and it was great that you have someone who would respond almost instantly whenever you have a question or need some consultation. We highly appreciate her profound knowledge, her prudence, and her caring.
Cate helped my wife Jing a lot during the labor process, helping her with all sorts of techniques (e.g., breath, position) to cope with the pain. She was also staying with my wife whenever there was a decision to be made, sharing her experiences and offering her suggestions and insight. I have to tell you, fellows, when in that room my wife was asked if only one person was allowed to stay with her for the Epidural, my wife did not hesitate but called her name (okay not my best moment but you can see how much trust Cate earned).
We feel so lucky we could find Cate as our Doula. We hope the same for you.
Cate was incredible to work with. We met her early in our pregnancy and she worked hard to get to know both of us. She spent a lot of time teaching and helping us through our pregnancy. At the birth, she was a godsend. She made sure my husband was nourished and rested, went out of her way to help ease my anxieties around birth and reassure me during labor. Cate worked very well with the nursing team to help my labor progress and she helped me advocate for myself during the labor process. Having her there was vital to my birth experience and I’d highly recommend her.
I can't say enough fantastic things about Cate. From the moment we met her, we knew she would be our doula. She is kind, attentive, active listener, and has an all-around calming and nurturing presence. Her pre-natal care sessions were immensly helpful for figuring out some pain management techniques for me, as the ones we learned about in our labor class just didn't jive with me. Cate stuck with us through 42 hours of induced labor trying to get baby to turn and my cervix to dilate, and then an unplanned c-section. Through no fault of her own, there was a short period of time Cate was unavailable in our labor, but her back-up doula was amazing and the continuity of care was well planned for and executed.
It always felt like Cate knew just what to do, just where to massage, or just what position to try next to keep us comfortable and give baby every opporunity to do what he needed to do for our desired birth plan. And when baby just wouldn't cooperate, Cate was essential in helping us navigate, discuss, and weigh our options for the next steps. I couldn't imagine not having Cate with us during this process. I don't know what we would have done. We would have been at a loss for sure.
Cate was FANTASTIC! I am 100% sure there is no way my husband and I would have been able to get through the labor process without her by our side. She is kind, knowledgeable, level-headed, and extremely easy to work with.
Before we had our baby, Cate came out to our house twice to work with us on breathing techniques, creating a birth plan, and answering any questions we had about labor and delivery. This was our first baby so we had lots of questions and needed her expertise to help guide our decisions on our birth plan and "planned" birth experience. Cate was available for phone calls and emails outside of our visits and she even did some research for us and gave us recommendations on different issues.
The day I went into labor was a whirlwind. When I lost myself, she brought me back to our breathing techniques and helped me control the pain as much as possible. At the hospital, I was her only priority. I remember the nurse asking me to do something and Cate firmly told her to wait until I got through a contraction. It was so nice to have her with me and advocating for me while I went through this exciting/scary/painful process. During the labor process, if the doctors mentioned something and Cate noticed I didn't understand she would stop the doctor and ask me if I needed clarification on anything. She made them slow down during this crazy process. I needed that! She made sure I was hydrated and had food before my delivery.
All of that to say, Cate is FANTASTIC! If you are looking for a doula, your search should stop here. She will make sure you have the most positive birthing experience possible. I will hire her for all of my births and sing her praises to anyone who will listen!
Cate was everything we could have wanted in a Doula- she was incredibly professional, but still warm and comforting. Although she had only attended a handful of births, she had the confidence and knowledge of someone that had been doing this a very long time. Her calmness, confidence, knowledge, and flexibility in a constantly changing environment are some of the primary strengths that Cate brought to my birth.
I was in labor for 21 hours, and Cate's demeanor and commitment to my well-being did not waiver during the entire time. We had several tough decisions to be made, and she remained clear-minded and helped me make those decisions, and supported me in whatever it was I needed to do.
Cate was very respectful of the doctors, nurses, and care providers- throughout the birth and after Cate departed, they often said what a joy Cate was to work with, and they couldn’t seem to believe she had only attended a few births to that point- she clearly impressed them with her skills as a doula. My husband was an integral part of my birth team, and Cate worked hand-in-hand (sometimes literally) to get me through my contractions and other challenges along the way- he also shard how great Cate was for my birth, and that he couldn't have gone through the process without her help. I recommend Cate whole-heartedly and feel incredibly fortunate that she was my doula!!
During my pregnancy one of my friends mentioned considering a doula. Thank God I did :)
Catherine(Cate) was our doula with whom I shared the experience of labor and birth of my son. She is skilled, helpful, kind and loving when needed.
I had a long labor and she supported me very well. Lot of techniques that she had practiced with us before hand were very helpful on the big day. She had good rapport with various hospital staff members and also supported my husband very well.
We thank her for being part of our team and she has our deepest gratitude.
