Mary Beth is FANTASTIC, professional, cool under pressure, and comforting to have by your side during any kind of birth! She has been our doula for all 4 of our births, 2 in the hospital, and 2 at home. Our first child was a particularly challenging birth in the hospital. It was long, complicated, and we dealt with many unexpected events. Mary Beth was an absolute rock during this birth! She helped us stay calm and was an incredible comfort to me and my husband. It was through Mary Beth's knowledge of different laboring and pushing techniques that I was able to avoid having a C-section. Our second birth in the hospital was much smoother, almost too smooth. The baby came fast, and the nurses and the doctors were not prepared (there was also a shift change so my nurses changed in the middle of the birth!). They had to grab a random doctor from the hallway to catch the baby in time! Luckily, Mary Beth was with us from the beginning so I felt I at least had one professional by my side that was reassuring and consistent throughout the whole birth. Our next two births were at home and I was thankful for the consistent and attentive care I recieved from Mary Beth and my whole birth team. Nothing beats having people you can trust at your birth and Mary Beth has become a trusted friend through all my births!
Mary Beth is incredibly calming and encouraging during the birth process, as well as, knowledgeable. She has been there for the birth of both of my children. I had some minor complications during my first birth but with Mary Beth's help I was able to have a successful home birth and still wanted to do it again the second time! I couldn't imagine not having her at future births since she has been such an integral part of my positive experiences! We are so grateful for her talents!
Mary Beth was our doula for the birth of our first child. It was a fantastic experience both during pregnancy, delivery, and after with brestfeeding advice and so on. I had a hospital induction birth with a midwife group and MB was the perfect compliment. I made it through my induction without any further interventions - no epidural, etc - which was really important to me. We could not have done it without MB!
Sadly we had to move out of the area after our first was born, and we sorely missed her at our second birth. We cannot recommend her enough.
Mary Beth was my doula (and had been my Bradley method teacher) for the birth of my first child in 2012. It was an induction at 42 weeks; she was such a huge help, and I credit her and methods she taught me and my husband for helping the induction go so smoothly! Mary Beth has such a calming presence, and she also had a lot of different positions to recommend that helped me try to relax and help the baby move down. She was encouraging and gave really great feedback on how to push effectively. She also gave me immediate support in breastfeeding right after delivery and was able to help me troubleshoot some difficulties in that area a week later.
Mary Beth is an incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and encouraging doula, and I highly recommend her!
Mary Beth was absolutely instrumental in helping me learn to breastfeed following the birth of my first baby.
My daughter and I really struggled with nursing in the days following her birth. Despite trying everything the nurses at the hospital told me to do, I could not get my baby to latch. She lost over 10% of her birth weight in just a few days. I actually had to feed her with a dropper and a tube because she couldn't latch properly.
I called Mary Beth and told her about my problem. She came to my house that same day, sat down with me and the baby, and worked with us kindly and patienly. Right away, Mary Beth noticed a few problems with my technique -- problems that the nurses didn't notice -- that were impeding the baby's ability to feed well. She helped me make some small adjustments and showed me a specific technique that solved the problem right away.
Just like that, my daughter latched, and she never had any trouble after that. I went on to nurse my daughter for 18 months with no problems whatsoever.
I am immesurably grateful to Mary Beth for her knowledge and patience. The day she worked with me was a big turning point in my life as a new mother -- before working with her, I felt distraught and discouraged; following her help, I felt proud and confident in my ability to care for my new baby. Mary Beth is the best!
