My 3rd pregnancy was confirmed two weeks after my husband was deployed. I had been intrigued with doulas after my first pregnancy, but never chosen one. As my husband was present, I wanted to be sure that I had support while he was gone, and just in case he would not make it back for the birth. After browsing this site, I chose Dorothy. I gave her a call, and immediately felt that contacting her was a great decision. She was very calm, encouraging, and supportive. After some deliberation, we chose to opt for post partum doula services. During our initial appointments, she demonstrated and helped me to find comfortable postions in which to labor to support the ideal positioning for the baby, to minimize discomfort, and to help the baby to make his way down the birthing canal. After my husband returned, she helped him support me into these positions and cues him on how to use his awareness to tune into my needs during birth and on how to practice breathing with me. The birth experience was much different from the first two, calling for induction. I had a lot of anxiety about pitocin, but she supported me and helped me to let go of my need for control and helped me to relax and surrender to the process. Like my first two labors, I went without pain management, but I felt so much more relaxed and supported. After I delivered my healthy baby boy, she met with me to support  breast feeding, check on my physical wellbeing, and provide advice to support the care of myself and my baby. She gave me and hubby a night off by providing babysitting near the end of our time together. I am so grateful for Dorothy’s care, wisdom, and support. I am so glad I chose Dorothy, and I and my husband are grateful for the support she provided.

Having Dorothy as my Doula was the best decision I ever made for my birthing experience. My husband was not a fan at first of having a Doula because he was not sure we needed one. After working with Dorothy, he agreed that decision was he best one ever!

Dorothy was amazing at preparing me for delivery and getting me through my postpartum recovery! She has a wealth of knowledge, the right temperament and explains and shows you what to do, how to do it and all that just takes the stress away and helps you get through it. She helped me build my momma confidence! I am forever grateful for her help and support. If we decide to do it all again, I would have her back to support me no question!

Thank you Dorothy!!!

My wife and I hired Dorothy about two months before our little one's arrival and I wish we had done it sooner!!  Hiring her was the easiest decision about birth that we made--meeting her over hot drinks and it was clear, this was someone we wanted in the room!!

Dorothy was such a help--before, during, and after the birth.  We met once a week and she was available for so much more.  We reviewed questions, talked pros/cons of birth center versus hospital, reviewed hospital procedures, practiced different positions for pain management and baby movement, and she has such strong hands!!

One of our biggest concerns about the birth is that the medical/technical jargon would intimidate us into making not great choices.  Dorothy built our confidence by talking out all different scenarios and helping us practice slowing down the conversation so we weren't bullied by our inexperience.  She helped us make decision, and didn't make them for us.  And it really helped!!  We knew our options and had no problems making the tougher decisions as our baby girl descended.

Overall, the birth was a really positive experience.  We loved and appreciated everyone in the room, especially Dorothy!!

LOVE AMOR

Dorothy Hales services went well beyond the call of duty. She was extremely professional and sensitive to my pregnancy needs.she assisted me with transportation and baby needs.

she also helped me with things not covered by her work position which just by treating me with sensitivity and listening to my emotional and physical needs.

she held my hand through very difficult traumatic matters and when my birthing wish for home birth was at the last minute denied at 9 mo pregnant, she understanding my traumatic birth history with a former botched abdominalplasty etc and other traumas

the decision to go to hospitals which I told myself I'd never do again, she again helped me face the fear of hospitals and birthing in one.she held my hand through the hospital run as well as during a c section which due to medical matter could not be avoided.

she helped cut my babies umbilicus as well as helped with a great sense of humor.

she did rounds staying overnight in hospital with me,assisted with labor breathing and massage techniques throughout labor and even before labor.she was a great advocate

in helping me manage the medical system and hospital red tape.without her my birth would have been impossible. I hope we stay in touch and if i ever got pregnant again Dorothy would probably be the first call I made before the obgyn!!!(lol)

Dorothy is such a well of knowledge! She helped me so much with learning what to expect and how to handle labor pains. When I went into false labor (3 times) at... work it was Dorothy who was there rubbing my back and teaching me how to rock my hips and sway with the contractions. It was because of her I was able to stay home and labor until I was 4 cm! I never once had to worry if my question was unable to be answered as Dorothy had answers! I learned so much about how to deal with and manage labor. She taught me how to breathe and how to get the conttractions to do more work with each one, I learned how to get the baby lower and how to lean into and relax into each contraction; which blelieve me was a lot harder when I was really in labor. She a was a huge source of encouragement through the whole process. Even willing to come to the hospital in the middle of the night if thats when I went into labor. She was one of the first to hold my baby girl, after all she was the one who helped me bring her to where she needed to be to get her out of there! :) I dont think I would have been able to labor at home as long as I did without Dorothys teachings.I did get anepidural this time around but I hope with what I know now and having Dorothy by my side that next time I can do this the all natural way. Either way Dorothy was supportive of what I wanted to do. She even came and visited after birth and got to see and hold the baby. She comes highly recomended!

If you want a beautiful birth experiance, and especially if you want a natural one, Id hire Dorothy. No one is more qualified to help you find your inner strength and bring your new life into this world than she is.

Not to mention she has helped me out TONs with breast feeding!
