Audrey helped make my birth experience absolutely perfect. Her intuition and care during my birth made me believe in my body and manage my pain. It's as if she knew what I needed before I did. Every recommendation she made in movement or changing positions helped make contractions manageable and active labor move quickly. I went from 4 centimeters dialted when we checked into the hospital to holding my baby in my arms within 6 hours, and it's largely thanks to Audrey's encouragement, kind words, and overall care for me during my birth. I cannot recommend her enough. Audrey is incredible!

Audrey was our doula for the birth of our first child in December 2017. I met Audrey at a DONA certification class gathering. I was excited by her knowledge, enthusiasm, and professionalism, so after talking to my husband, we decided to hire her. Having been in a DONA class myself, I understood the importance of having a doula at our child's birth, both for me, and for my partner.

I met with Audrey in person when we hired her, and then remained in text and email communication with her until the birth. She was always immediately responsive--even when I wasn't! On the day I went into labor she came to our home and then helped us know when it was time to call the midwife. Her knowledge helped me stay calm and focused while laboring at home, and kept me from going to the birthing center too early.

When we arrived at the birth center Audrey was very responsive to my needs and spoke to the midwives on my behalf about wanting to get into the tub. She talked me through contractions and used natural pain relief methods to help me cope. She encouraged me and responded to my cues. With her help and support, I was able to give birth naturally, without the use of pain medication. I actually give birth standing up! She supported me in a standing position while I was pushing, so my husband didn't have to (he was nervous about it). I'm sure her muscles were sore when it was over! With her support, I successfully gave birth in the way that I wanted to. I felt safe and supported the entire time. My husband, who was nervous about being in the room and about seeing the baby being born, was also relieved she was there and able to provide support that he was not comfortable providing. This freed him up to just be present in the way that he wanted to.

Our son was born happy and healthy! Audrey also took photos of the birth, for which we will be forever grateful. We are thankful that we have these memories to cherish.

We are very happy with our experience with Audrey.  This was my second birth with the GW midwives, and I was feeling confident, but I wanted to have a little extra assurance, so I hired Audrey, who had just completed her training but had not yet completed her required births.  I found her to be very nice when we met her, and she shared that she had three children.  She was open to all of our ideas regarding birth and was supportive, and I felt assured that she could handle whatever might come up.

She met us at the hospital and brought a whole suitcase of birth props.  I ended up not needing them, but it was nice to know they were there.  I was only at the hospital for 3 hours, 1 of which was pushing under direction of the midwives, so there was limited time to interact with Audrey, but she was present for the whole process, bringing me drinks and pressuring my hips to relieve pain.  She was also able to take photos to document the birth for us. One of the things I was impressed with was when she helped me to the bathroom during labor, she asked me whether I was ok with her using a camera that had a flash.  I thought it was great that she checked with me to make sure it wouldn't bother with me, and that she did it at an appropriate time.

Overall, I asked her to provide extra support to my husband and me in case the labor went long, and asked her not to be too invasive.  I found that she listened to my directions and provided exactly what we asked for, which was wonderful.  I felt very comfortable with Audrey, and would use her again.
