Fee Details: Congratulations on your expected new arrival! I have always loved babies and I continue to be amazed by the miracle of birth. I received my formal training in January of 2015 with Dona International, but I actually started supporting friends and family through their labors in 1990. In addition to that I gave birth to 10 of my own babies and personally experienced everything from a completely unmediated birth to an emergency cesarean. From these experiences and my training I will do my best to assist you in achieving the birth experience you desire. Please call or text for a free initial consultation. I think every woman who desires the support of a doula should have one! Please do not let cost be your deciding factor. I am willing to work with you to ensure you get the support you need!

JoAnn is a wonderful doula. She is a warm and caring person and was a delight to work with as we prepared for the birth of our daughter. JoAnn met with us several times at our home througout the second and third trimesters to get to know me and my husband and what our goals were for the birth of our first child. She offered a number of resources (books, websites, articles and personal anecdotes) on preparing for birth, the birth process, nursing, baby care basics, car seat saftely and more. JoAnn is respectful and supportive of the parents' choice for pain relief, c-section, or completely unmedicated birth in a hospital setting. My goal was an unmedicated birth and JoAnn's support made that possible with a happy, healthy mom and baby in the delivery room. Her strong and calm presence by my side was reassuring and my husband found it incredibly helpful to have someone to "model" different types of support and encouragement during labor and birth. After our daughter arrived, she stayed with us to get us settled into our hospital room and then paid us a visit after we came home to follow up on our transition with our little one. I highly recommend JoAnn Barnhart to anyone looking for a doula. She is a gem!
Working with JoAnn was so comforting. Even though this wasn't my first pregnancy and delivery she worked with me on ways to be more comfortable . She was professional yet caring and personable at the same time. JoAnn let me know she was there help however I needed her, helped me read what my body was telling me. She was also very considerate of my husband and gave us the space when we needed it. Im so grateful for her help with our sweet baby boy!
JoAnn is a pro. She made me feel comfortable and capable of doing the hardest thing I've ever done in my life! Birthing a baby! I had her with me for both of my births. She is very knowledgable in birthing and has given birth herself to 10 children! This lady knows her stuff. It was great having someone there along the way that I could trust and discuss my birth options with, and someone to help me mentally prepare beforehand as well. JoAnn is loving, kind, compassionate, and non-judgemental. She helped me feel relaxed and confident during the before, during, and after birth experience. Women need other women to walk them through these life changing events, and I am so glad I had a JoAnn there along the way to help me! I would hire her again in a heartbeat! She is a gem!
I have given birth four times with JoAnn Barnhart as my doula. Each time, I was able to go without pain medicine or an epidural. I credit JoAnn's steady, sure presense for helping make that possible. I literally and figuratively leaned on her strength to get me through my labors. She gave me the assurance and support I needed every step of the way. She is adept at making suggestions and offering things without being intrusive in the least. She seems to intiutively know exactly what I might need (and not think to ask for in the moment). For example, I remember with my first, as I went through transitition, she began very quietlying cueing each breath in and out. It kept me calm and focused when my mind and body were beginning to panic. I've been blessed to have her with me each step of the way with each of my births. With my last, I didn't go into labor until I knew she was back in town. I don't think that was a coincidence. She has been my rock and having a doula has been the very best investment I could have made to help each birth go well.
JoAnn was my postpartum doula. She cleaned, cooked, helped with the baby, and most importantly, refilled my water before I even realized it was empty, all day!! It was like having a full time waiter who does everything. JoAnn is sweet, smart, and hard working. It was a joy to have her in my home as we adjusted to new life with baby Maggie. Her many years of experience with babies really makes a huge difference. I felt fully confident in her advise and reassurances, and her confidence in me helped me adjust to life as a mother. Someday, when we have baby #2, I'll definitely plan on having JoAnn there for birth and baby's homecoming. She genuinely loves all babies, and is one of the kindest people I know. She has a wealth of personal experience as a mom and as a doula that she generously shares whenever applicable. She's very cool and calming under pressure. Anyone would be lucky to have JoAnn help them with birth or bringing home baby.
