From the first consultation to all the followup conversations before I went into labor, everything went smoothly and seemed to be going according to my plan. At my 39 week check up with my OB, I was told my amniotic fluid was too low to continue the pregnancy. We went to the hospital and they discovered I also had severe preeclampsia. I was told I would need an induction.

I was really disappointed. Ali calmed me down and assured me that this was still okay and that I could still have a positive birthing experience even though this was not the way I had planned my birth. What we all thought was going to be a 12-24 hour induction turned into almost a 4 day induction, and my birth plan was quickly thrown out the window due to various medical issues that came up.  I was distraught and disappointed. Ali again came through and helped me to see that the end goal was to have a healthy baby and healthy mom, and it was okay if the birth did not go strictly according to plan.

Ali being present at my birth made it possible for me to look back on my birth experience in a positive light. Absolutely nothing went the way we had planned. I hadn't planned on my best friend not being there. I hadn’t planned on being induced and it taking four days, or those four days being filled with various medications and being confined to bed for most of those four days. Having the threat of an emergency c-section constantly around the corner was definitely not part of my plan. Without Ali there to keep my brain on track, I would not have been able to stay positive about every part of my plan being thrown out the window.

Ali was a supportive and positive member of my birthing team, and she made it possible for me to feel good about the whole thing. I am eternally grateful for her support during this pivotal time in my family’s life, and I hope that we are still in the area when we have our next child.

Being a first time mom, a mom who has had loses before, as well as a sexual assault survivor I knew I was looking for a special kind of doula to help support me and my husband through this pregnancy. Allie was just that person for us. I was far along once I finally found Allie and not only did she communicate with me every step of the way she also gave me resources till the end.
On our first meeting we talked about how I want my birth to look like she supported my plan for wanting to go with natural methods for labor as long as I can before getting an epidural. She knew how to include my husband to show him how to help along with her. With amazing resources to makes strong birth plan and with showing me how my labor would look with methods we wanted to implement.
My birth was a month earlier than we excepted and there was no hesitation for Allie to come and with a slow labor in the beginning Allie helped me with natural ways to speed up my labor and help with my pain. I was terrified and having such a knowledgeable and supportive person on my birth team put my mind at ease. She was my advocate and my rock to lean on during my labor. My husband felt included and after a very hard pregnancy he was incredibly relieved we would have someone like Allie who was there to guide me, encourage me and help me find the strength I needed.
She was open and very helpful with me postpartum and not only would I have her again on my birth team I would highly recommend her to anyone. My family is blessed to have had such an amazing birth experience and Allie is the one who helped made it possible.
