As Doulas, we accompany women in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. Educated through both Wise Woman Way of Birth Doula Training and Douglas College and Certified through DONA, Doulas of North America, we draw on our knowledge and experience to provide emotional support and physical comfort during your pregnancy, labour and delivery. We can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress, help with relaxation, massage, positioning and other techniques for comfort. As your Doulas, we are working for you, not your caregiver or hospital. Our Doula Collective contains three birth doulas, as well as two postpartum doulas. We operate using an on-call schedule, similar to that of midwives and obstetricians. This system allows for a well rested doula 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for your birth. We each have a vast array of experience and specialty training which we share among the collective to broaden our overall scope of tricks and tools. All of our doulas have experience with twins, VBACs, HBACs first time mothers, anxiety and more.

My husband and I are so incredibly thankful that Julie attended the birth of our son, all 20ish hours of it. We had plans for a home birth and although nothing really went as planned, our meetings with the doulas prior to the big day helped both of us know what to expect and how to deal with it, and increased our confidence and calmness in a stressful situation.
We called Julie early in the labor and she made us feel safe, helping Rob support me and knowing what was normal and when to call the midwife. Julie was a constant support but in a way that kept Rob front and center with me, as we had wanted. She was the calming voice and touch on my shoulder helping me relax, the cool facecloth on my forehead, the pain relieving pressure on my hips during contractions. She knew just what to do without being asked, and helped Rob do the same which was amazing for me when I was so internally focused.
I wound up having to go to the hospital for an epidural and c section and Julie stayed with us through everything all night and the next day. She was very respectful and realistic about the path our birth experience was taking and protected the peace and calm of our room to allow us to rest and process it all. Afterward she helped Rob get settled with our son then stayed with me in recovery. She was the only one of us who had zero sleep, and was somehow still the most functional of everyone by the end. (Superwoman!)
Over the first 3 weeks with my newborn, Julie checked in with me often and was around if I needed her support during this transition. That kind of follow up was so appreciated and I think it was a big reason I totally avoided the post partum blues .
Despite having almost the exact opposite birth experience than we had been hoping for, both Rob and I have very positive memories of the whole thing and would absolutely hire Julie again if we have another baby in the future.
Going into my very first pregnancy, I had no idea what to expect and at first was nervous and scared about the delivery. I don’t do well with pain but I wanted to do it as natural as possible and Julie was invaluable to both my husband and I. She was so responsive and so full of knowledge every step of the way. Even though we had pre appointments leading up to the delivery when I was having contractions all those discussions I couldn’t remember any of it and Julie was there keeping what I wanted and providing us with all the meanings and questioning the nurses, midwife and the OB whenever possible to keep us informed of all our options whenever possible. She’s like having a rockstar lawyer when you don’t have a voice!
When we first met Julie we felt so comfortable with her personality and she was just so wonderful we would highly recommend her to anyone. Having your own personal labour coach to me was so incredibly worth it. It’s so easy to want to sit there and endure through the pain but Julie kept me going and moving and I feel like labour was so quick because of her and all her techniques!
Her relaxation techniques were amazing! Playing music, hip squeezes, rubbing my back during contractions. The most memorable moment for me though was when the nurses were contemplating calling in the OB for a possible cesarean because of how our daughter was in the birth canal her head was coming down at an angle. So Julie tried “shake the apple tree” and as painful as it was through contractions our daughter was able to get the optimal positioning she needed and a cesarean was avoided!
We are just so grateful to have found Julie to be our doula through everything and even in my postpartum she was there every step of the way. Such a wonderful and memorable experience I hope she will get to be a part of any other births should they be in our future.
I am so happy I chose to hire a doula for my second pregnancy. I had quite a bit of fear and anxiety as I already knew what birth was like and everything that comes with it. After meeting with Nicole, Julie & Allison (Ridge Meadows Doula team) I knew no matter what doula was on call when I gave birth I was in good hands. The knowledge they all provided us with was beyond what I even had going into my first birth.
Julie was a huge part of my successful, fast and drug free childbirth! The emotional support and reassurance she gave me was huge, words can't even express my gratitude! Julie is kind, calm, relaxed, and knowledgable which is exactly what I needed in my childbirth. I couldn't believe I had a drug free child birth and a 9 pound baby!! It was like having a very good friend helping you with your birth. My husband and I said it was the best investment. I would for sure choose the Ridge Meadows Doula's again if we choose to have another baby.
Our experience with Julie and the Ridge Meadows Doula team was beyond fantastic! At 40 years old, we became unexpectedly and joyfully pregnant with our first child. I was faced with the negative statistics and threat of induction due to my age by all medical doctors we saw, which inspired me to reach out for doula support during our pregnancy and birth.
From our very first meeting, our doula team gave us:
The thing about birth is that you may underestimate what you are capable of, and it is completely unpredictable!
Julie was the best thing that could have EVER happened to us during the birth of our son. She was calm when we weren't. Had amazing pain management techniques when I felt like giving up. And was the reassuring voice when we needed it most. Her joyful personality, and calm demeanor made us instantly at ease and relaxed as we prepared for our son to enter the world. We couldn't be more thankful to have had her beside us during such an exciting time. She truly made the birthing experience wonderful, and allowed us to enjoy the special moments as we became a family.
