When I became pregnant I knew hardly anything about the birthing process, or even babies. At my appointments I was asked so many questions about my birthing plan, which was intimidating since I didnt even know what giving birth would feel like or how I would handle the pain. Brief family conversations and short doctors visits weren't enough for me to get prepared as a first time mom for what to expect. Cassi, who lived in my neighborhood at the time announced her service as a doula-I had never heard of what that was. Basically what I read online is that they are there to give you all the support you need by answering questions to helping with physical discomfort. We met with Cassi and immediately I felt like she needed to be there to help me in this journey, not just for me but also to ensure my mom wouldn't feel like she was taking all the burden of comforting me while I was in pain. Cassi helped me with my birth plan and met with us several times to check how things were progressing. It was awesome having someone to talk to about the not so charming perks of giving birth. The actual day arrived and Cassi was right there from the start, letting me lean on her since I was in tremendous pain. My mother hadn't arrived since it was very early in the morning so it was great having a shoulder to cry on. Cassi stayed with us until my baby was eating and getting settled into the world. I'm very happy with the help I received, I couldn't imagine not having a doula like Cassi to help me get through one of the biggest moments of my life!
