I absolutely loved working with Alana! From our first conversation via phone I felt it was the right choice! She was very helpful during labor yet let me do my process with minimal interruptions. Her knowledge of exercises and positions to try really helped get things moving as well as her support during contractions were super useful. Highly recommended as a doula/birth assistant!
My experience was good although it was short. We met at the gave birth. She was helpful during my birth and supported my midwife well. Her calm and gentle personality was a to my birth experience.
Alana was a lovely addition to our birth team!
As a this was my first birth, and as both my husband and I have clinical anxiety from, I was anxious about how we would handle the potential emptional stress of labor. Alana's support was exactly what we needed, from checking in with encouragement while we waited for labor to start and while we worked with our midwives on encourgaing labor to begin (baby was born at exactly 42 weeks!), to being a wonderful support during the labor itself. All during labor she was a calm presence that set a wonderful tone. Her help with taking temperatures and using the dopler to checkon baby never felt intrusive, and she worked seemlessly with our midwives, which was wonderful.
I also greatly appreciated all of her follow up and emotional care and support after the birth, especially as not only was labor difficlut but we eventually transfered to the hospital, had a c-section, and then I developed a post surgery infection which laid me out with a fever for over a week right after birth. Alana followed up with me not only the day after we got home from the hospital but all through the illness as well.
Alana also seems as to genuinely adore my baby as much as I do, which is just one more thing suggesting that she's definately in the right profession! I'm only sad that due to COVID social distance suggestions, all of our post birth checks were tele-visits or over the phone and that she never got to meet our sweet baby in person after all her hard work and support during the time she was with us at the birth center!
My husband, a man of very few words adds, "She was great. Wonerful!"
We had a great experience working with Alana for the birth of our second child. My husband and I are both grateful that Alana was on our 'team' for this life-changing event. She is clearly very experienced and yet, humble enough to be listening very carefully. Some of the best advice she gave me was right before I went into labor, which for me, happened to be barely 3 hours long. If not for her, I would not have been prepared for things to move so quickly! Because she was so attentive during the birth itself, I felt comfortable looking to her for support. Overall, she was always available - before, during and after the birth. She took the time to think about my concerns, look up information and get back to me, as and when required. Alana is quick to assess a situation, calm, thoughtful, reponsive and understanding. I would highly recommend her as a birth assistant.
It was a joy to have Alana assist in the recent birth of my daughter. Given the likelyhood that a hospital birth was going to be a lonely and unplesent experience, we switched at 36 weeks to BirthCare from Physicians and Midwives. Alana was very kind to agree to assist us, even at such a late date. She was responsive by phone and was quick to meet us at BirthCare once I was in labor. She also came to our house afterward to check on the baby and myself. My delievery was releatively quick and straightforward, but Alana was always present, helpful, and professional. I'm sure my midwife appreciated her assistance as well. It's a relief to have another set of competant hands to guide and assist during labor and delivery. I would defintely recommend Alana to other expectant families.
It was a pleasure working with Alana. I chose to deliver at a birth center very last-minute - at 36 weeks pregnant. Alana joined my birth team at this "final hour" willingly, and worked to get me up to speed quickly. I went into labor at 38 weeks, and she was with me every step of the way. She has a calming presence and competent manner, and I knew I was in excellent hands. Alana visited my newborn daughter and me the day after I gave birth, which was reassuring because I knew all was well with my and my infant's health after her time with us. I highly recomend Alana Potter as a birth assistant. If I were having more children, she'd be on my team again!
It was an absolute gift to have Alana at my birth. Her grounding presence allowed me to stay focused during the most challanging parts of labor. Alana offered different positions and breathing teachniques throughout labor. In addition, she provided homeopathic remedies both during and after labor. I highly recommend having Alana at your birth because she is thoughtful, thorough, grounding, and passionate.
Alana is a great doula! She's personable, extremely experienced and knowledgeable about labor & delivery, which is very helpful when being thrown curveballs at the hospital. I was induced unexpectedly and had yet to take any courses in pain management as I'd planned. Fortunately, I was able to naturally endure the pain of induced labor much longer (up to 8 cm dilated) thanks to her many ideas for pain management. I also appreciate that she made herself available to me with such short notice. I had not yet signed a contract with her when I found out I'd be getting induced within 24 hours. She was so understanding and kind to show up to the hospital to support me when I needed it, and stayed through the wee hours of the morning after my little one was born. Above all, I appreciated her faith - as a Christian, it was important to me to find someone who shared my faith. I had a long a long and tough labor, so having someone with me who was prayerful and resourceful was a gift from God. I think she's a great doula, and I'm so grateful to have had her with me during labor & delivery!
Alana served as a birth assistant for both of my children who were born at home. Alana is incredibly thoughtful and knowledgeable. During my pregnancies, she would follow up on our conversations with links to more information to help me understand topics in more depth. During my labor, Alana was supportive, gentle, and empowering. She asked me what kind of birth I envisioned, listened to my needs, and cultivated the exact birthing environment and experience I wanted. Post-partum, Alana continued to follow-up with me and check-in to ensure I and baby were doing okay. She even brought over food for my family during her visit. Given Alana's experience, wisdom, and gentle demeanor, she was an incredible asset during my birthing experiences, and I am so thankful to have her as my doula!
I am a first time mum and I was 38 when I had my baby girl. Alana helped me through labor even though I ended up having a csection. I called her as my water broke at home and just talking to her kept me calm as i was putting things together to go to the hospital . Later she arrived. I specifically asked the doctor I wanted to deliver naturally . Having Alana next to me gave me a sense of comfort and strength and after many hours of waiting to dilate the doc decided it was safe for the baby and me to have csection. I would recommend Alana's service to anyone who wants a doula and if I have another baby I would definitely ask her to be my doula again.
Alana has helped me feel at peace throughout my whole labor. She created a serene yet cheerful setting with her soft string lights and candles in the labor room. I appreciated her confidence in me during times when I wanted to give up during transition. She helped me keep going to deliver my child naturally with no complications.
Thank you Alana for your wisdom and guidance.
Alana was wonderful!!
I had a worldwind week. I started the week thinking I would have a natural birth at a birthing center. Only to find out that because of health reasons that was not possible and i would have to deliver in a hopsital. In comes Alana and the ladies at BirthPartner to ensure that I still had someone at the hospital to help me has as natural of a birth as possible. It was disappointing in and of itself to be in a hospital but Alana made me feel better about it. She had worked with the hospital before and felt confident all would be ok. Alana quickly went over my birth plan and got to know what I wanted and hoped for this birth. We only had a matter of days but I felt like she and I got to know what I wanted and she was emotionally supportive in my birth.
Alana made me feel supported and when I felt like i failed myself for getting the epidural she reassured me that I was fine. Alana knows the birthing business like the back of her hand but was always careful not to interfere medically and to provide the extra support my husband and I needed. Alana had beautiful lights and decorations for the arrival of my son. While the birth was not what I expected and took much longer that I would have liked...it was made wonderful with her help.
I highly recommend her as a Doula. You are in good hands with Alana!
