I have 5 children who were born at home and in birthcenters. I am a member of Doulas of the Triangle and have back-up doula coverage.
Johanna was amazing. She met with us before the birth to go over my birth plan and expectations. She really took the time to ask good questions and get to know me and my family. She was available during the weeks before I went into labor to field questions and give me support through the "waiting for baby" days near the end of pregnancy. Throughout labor, she had a really positive energy and made me feel supported and safe. i ended up transferring to the hospital after 30 hours of labor and i had a really hard time processing some of the feelings surrounding the birth. She let me talk about he experience openly and vent my feelings. She also provided helpful insight into the experience. I know she played a huge role in me being able to get through those first couple weeks of baby blues! I'm so thankful that she was there for me. She offered clarity, positivity, mental support, and a non-judgemental attitude. I would highly recommend her!
I am so thankful to have had Johanna for the birth of my third child. My previous two birthing experiences were very difficult, so I was very anxious about having my third. Johanna was there to answer every question I had (which there were plenty) and was a great help in easing my anxieties. She gave me resources to help me with my baby being transverse and to help me with my high blood pressure. Through the entire process, i really felt like she had me and my baby's best interest at heart. I would absoutely recommend her to anyone looking for a doula. You will be thankful to have her by your side.
Johanna is an awesome doula! When we had our daughter, she was very encouraging and supportive, both to me and to my husband! She had helpful suggestions and several times gave me things that I needed before I even knew that I needed them. She was very involved, but also knew when to give us space or time. She was knowledgeable about birth, comfort measures, positions, postpartum, babies, etc. When things started moving faster than we were expecting, she was calm, and a point of comfort in the surrounding chaos.
When my son was born, Johanna again gave us tons of support, care, and info. As we were trying to figure out what we wanted, she was really interested in making his birth a good experience for us, whatever we decided to do! She helped talk us through some important decisions. She made me feel more in control and made the whole thing seem a lot more manageable!
I am so glad that she was involved in making good experiences and good memories for my births, and I DEFINITELY recommend her to you!
Our family cannot express how thankful we are to have had Johanna Burbridge as our midwife assistant and doula during the prenatal and postpartum phases of my pregnancy. Johanna's bedside manner is warm, inviting, and professional. Throughout our experience with Johanna, she always did her upmost to answer questions or help us through issues. If she didn't know a complete answer to something she would take the time to research and make the phonecalls neccesary to help our family better. For example, at six weeks post partum I came down with mastitis and Johanna worked diligently to seek and get the help I needed to heal-up fully.
During the labor and birth of our sweet baby boy, Johanna was amazing! She showed support in many ways. Johanna, made sure our three older children were at peace and comforted. She also helped me to stay hydrated throughout the birth. Additionally, Johanna worked incredibly hard to soothe the severe tailbone discomfort I experienced in the pushing phase by flowing with my natural movement while still applying the counter pressure I desired. Johanna's commitment to me as the laboring lady and to our family as a whole was excellent!
Johanna will forever hold a very special place in our families hearts. We highly reccomend Johanna's doula services to any pregnant or postnatal mama and family seeking a doula who is compassionate and professional.
I had such a wonderful experience with Johanna! I would recommend her to anyone. My husband and I were unsure what we wanted from the birth experience of our first child. She was knowledgeable, and helped walk us through all of our options. We were perhaps a little different than some couples because we wanted a birth in the hospital, and I was open to having an epidural. She helped us create a birthing plan that was right for us.
My husband and I are both very data driven and she gave us a copy of the recent recommendations and several books to read. I love that Johanna knew what we needed to feel at ease was able to effortlessly provide us with all the information we could want.
Johanna is so incredibly warm and patient and with a great sense of humor. She is passionate about birth and we were so grateful for her wisdom as we prepared. Her commitment continued after the birth and she helped me with breastfeeding and during the post partum period. I loved having her just a call away. She made the whole process feel natural, smooth and worry-free.
Johanna. is. awesome. She really really cares about you (Momma), your baby, your family and everything thereabouts. She was our prenatal Midwife assistant and helped us as a postpartum doula as well. She always addressed my concerns and would teach me fun things about what was happening developmentally with our baby. After we had our baby (yay!) she was really supportive to help me recover and keep my spirits up through some long days. I highly recommend her in both a Midwifery and doula capacity!
Johanna is an amazing doula! Both my husband and I can attest to Johanna's ability and knowledge. Her presence during the birth of our first son (and subsequent children) was a tremendous help. For my first pregnancy, I wanted someone that really cared and could help guide me through whatever happened. I thought my husband would be a big part of it (he went to all the classes with me), but just a few hours into labor, I unexpectedly found that I didn't want him to help me much, but just to be nearby. (haha, who could know?) Johanna was there with encouragement, knowledge, advocacy, understanding, and a sincere desire to help me have the birth experience that I wanted. I found her coaching, and knowledge to be superior to my nurses.
After my first 2 children were hospital births, I became more comfortable with the whole birth process (in large part to Johanna's valuable input) and had my next two babies all-naturally at a Birth Center. With the natural birth of my son, Johanna talked me through the toughest spots and kept me focused on the beautiful baby I was about to have. She watched over me aftewards and even noticed when I was having a little bit of shock and kept me warm, hydrated and bonding with the baby.
I'm due this year with baby #6 and will definitely have Johanna with me at the hospital. Her kindness, sincerity, and *extensive* knowledge help me to be confident that I will have the best birth experience, regardless of what comes up.
She is awesome and I recommend her highly. Thanks so much Johanna!
