At the consult, Alyssa was very prepared. She had meaningful questions that helped my husband and I describe what we were looking for in a doula. She was excellent in guiding the conversation by digging deep into who we are, our birth plans, and what it meant to us. We really liked that she provided references!
Plans changed for us and we delivered at our backup hospital. At the birth, Alyssa was not afraid to ask nurses, hospital staff, and doctor clarifying questions to help us understand everything and equip us to make informed decisions. I had to get induced and she was there supporting my husband and I through that process. It was super difficult for me and she helped me feel like I was not alone and I was cared for. She helped my husband show up with that presence too. She truly has her clients best interest at heart. She arrived just in time for the csection and knowing me and what I would have wanted spoke up about us praying together before I was taken to the OR. That moment was so special for me! Everything that we had plan had completely changed and many things about making the birth beautiful had slipped my mind, but she knew my plan and helped add beauty to the birth where I could not remember to.
My husband adds: She was very present and aware of what was going on and able to act on the spot at the hospital.
Alyssa has a great level of intentionality and presence, she definitely surpassed our expectations and that’s why we hired her. Alyssa was super supportive, she reached out regularly to check in. She made herself available to speak on the phone when an unexpected turn in my pregnancy occurred. We felt understood by her and genuinely cared for. We loved that we could freely pray with her and share scriptures to be encouraged in faith. We are deeply greatful that we had her on our birth team, her service is worth way more and we have no regrets in making the financial sacrifice to add her to our birth team.
“Alyssa supported me through a long labor and held my hand during an emergency c section. She asked staff to call the translation line and explain in my language. She supported with arm massage, cold compress, trying different positions, ice chips, encouragement, eye contact, reassurance, and constant presence.”

(My experience) was good. My birth team was very helpful. My doula treated me like a sister. Alyssa gave massages and helped me get to the bathroom.
These questions answered through an interpreter at Embrace, a nonprofit that serves refugee women by matching them with a doula. Alyssa volunteered as a doula with Embrace when she served this woman during labor.

(My experience) was incredible! There was not one thing I would change. It was super beneficial for me- the words of affirmation were very reassuring. Because this was my first birth, I didn't know what to expect and I definitely didn't know what I was doing. To hear Alyssa assure me that I was doing great and doing exactly what I needed to be doing was so helpful for my mental game! In addition, she provided incredible support to my husband throughout the entire process. He wanted to be very involved but didn't always know what to do. It was great to have someone there guiding him through the process. He couldn't stop talking about how grateful he was to have her there! The words of affirmation were the most critical for me. Outside of that, I enjoyed the chilled washcloths while in the birthing tub and the physical touch to my lower back during a contraction.
I'm so grateful to have had Alyssa attend our birth! The overall experience was so amazing and I know it's because of the incredible birth team we had!
WE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE EXPERIENCE WE WANTED WITHOUT ALYSSA. SHE HELPED US TO BE ABLE TO FOCUS ON THE BABY AND TO DO WHAT WE NEED TO INSURE HER HEALTH AND SAFETY WHILE STILL HAVING THE BIRTH EXPERIENCE WE DESIRED. ALYSSA WAS INCREDIBLY SUPPORTIVE AND ENCOURAGING THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE. THE LABOR WENT QUICKER THAN THE DOCTOR ANTICIPATED, SO THE PAIN WAS INCREASING SIGNIFICANTLY. WE DID NOT CALL ALYSSA TO COME TO THE HOSPITAL UNTIL I WAS ALREADY DILATED AT A 7, BUT SHE ARRIVED QUICKLY AND JUMPED RIGHT IN. ALYSSA WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE HELP TO INSURE THAT I WAS ABLE TO HAVE A NATURAL BIRTH SAFELY.
