We originally thought we didn’t need a doula; now we won’t do another birth without one! It absolutely turned the birth experience from apprehension to empowerment.
- Katrina prepped us ahead of time with specific-to-us labor techniques, and identified good laboring places in our house. We had the tools to manage calmly and skillfully before she even arrived on Delivery Day and that made a huge difference.
- We had taken the hospital birthing classes, but she gave us info and techniques that weren’t provided there (or biased from a nurse/doctor’s point of view), including alternatives to interventions and how to ask for them.
-Her in-the-moment directions on how to physically relax specific body areas made a *huge* difference in the intensity and duration of contractions. (One of the nurses said “You are one of the best laboring moms we’ve ever seen,” which was 100% due to Katrina’s coaching. On my own I would have been tense and cranky.)
-professional in all the right ways
-compassionate without being syrupy
-a huge support and source of confidence for my husband, because he was going through a marathon as well
-literally my replacement for pain killers. I had planned on using an epidural but ended up easily not needing one because she and my husband were applying counter pressure on my hips
-knew what she was doing and had the research to back it up
-was there specifically for me and my husband when the nurses were focused on technical things, (which was about 50% of the time)
-After the birth she continued to be an emotional and postpartum support, and helped answer questions about recovery my doctor failed to mention.
I cannot say enough good things about Katrina. Do an interview and see if your personalities match, because her skills are solid and bar none.
Katrina is an absolute blessing!!! I met her through her prenatal yoga classes and quickly knew I needed to hire her as our doula. We hired her during the beginning of my second trimester. She helped my husband and I put together the perfect birth plan for us. Katrina checked in with me often and offered excellent advice. While I was in labor Katrina worked seamlessly with my husband to help me through my contractions. She made sure the nurses and doctor respected my unmedicated birth plan. Since the birth of my daughter she has continued to check in and provide postpartum support. I can not recommend Katrina enough!!!
Katrina was indispensable support for both me and my husband during the birth of our first baby. In our meetings leading up to birth, Katrina was professional, clear, informative and incredibly supportive. During labor, she was a calming and reassuring presence. Katrina has a wealth of knowledge about labor, birth and breastfeeding. She provides the evidence-based facts without being preachy, and offers support for whatever decision your family chooses to make. I would immediately recommend Katrina as a labor doula for my dearest friends and family.
Katrina was a huge help through out my pregnancy, during my daughters birth and after. She is a very sweet, caring and educated person and doula. I was scared to give birth but Katrina really put me at ease and helped me keep calm and do what was best for myself and our baby. She was always ready to jump in with info and ideas. When I was about 36 weeks pregnant I found out my baby was transverse and we needed to flip her in 2 days. Katrina got me a bunch of info and videos and talked me through everything we should try and my daughter flipped head down the day of my doctors appointment. I really appreciated the love, support and knowledge I received from Katrina and I will always be thankful to her.
