Having Monika as my doula for my second homebirth wasn’t even a decision I needed to make. After my first birth I knew that I wanted Monika there for all future babies. She checked in regularly during my pregnancy to ensure that I had everything that I needed for birth and that all my questions were answered.
Once my water broke, Monika immediately came over. With a fast first birth, she instinctively knew that she would be needed quickly (even if the midwife wasn’t in a rush over). Since my contractions hadn’t started upon her arrival, Monika immediately began supporting my husband with getting the birthing pool set up. Minutes after my contractions started, my son was born. Monika didn’t have the chance to support me through my labour (other than getting a few inches of water into the birthing pool) but her presence at my home leading up to the fast arrival of my son made me feel at ease. Monika is the calm to my birthing storms. (Crazy dramatic deliveries). She brings a calmness to every situation.
Monika also offers post-partem support. She provided aids in my recovery including regular check-ins, sitz-baths, soup broth, and placenta encapsulation.
I highly, highly recommend Monika to anyone needing support before, during, and after birth.
Monika was my doula for the birth of my second child. My first was delivered ten days past my due date, and after induction, I had an emergency c-section. With my second, I felt I needed more support to prepare for what was to come with the pregnancy and delivery and as such asked Monika to be my doula.
Monika regularly checked in and visited to ensure I had talked through various scenarios for my upcoming birth. In the end, the OB and I arranged for a planned c-section. I felt comfortable with this route as I was quite ill during my pregnancy, and although this typically isn’t the route with a doula, Monika stayed on to support.
Monika was right there with me at the hospital from the moment I went in, through the surgery, and post op. I felt calmer having her extra support throughout as well as diligence in ensuring I had what I needed. Once home, Monika visited, brought healthy treats and offered support around the house or just chat for the extra company.
I would definitely recommend Monika to someone else looking for extra support through pregnancy.
Monika and her partner Krista were a fabulous addition to my birth team. They were responsive, informative and very easy to connect and talk to about our planned home birth of our second child. Krista attended the birth and her loving, caring touch and near by presence made me feel comfortable and reassured during a very quick labour that progressed quickly (2 1/2 hours start to finish). I appreciated having her at my side during strong and escalating contractions; she also ensured my birth space was exactly as I wanted it to be. My husband new I was in good hands and valued having her at my side so he could focus on filling up the birth pool and liaise with the midwife. Krista and Monika touched base with me in the days following the birth to see how I was doing and answer our questions. Then a lovely gift basket with nourishing foods and my placenta pills showed up at our door - a really thoughtful gift. I highly recommend their doula services for expecting mamas in the Vancouver and surround areas.
