Dakota was my doula for the birth of my second baby. As as second time mom, I was on the fence about hiring a doula since I had already experienced labor. I am so happy that I chose to have Dakota at my birth!
Dakota set a gentle, mellow mood throughout the birth. She used essential oils and music to keep the hospital room as homey and relaxing as possible. She gave gentle coaching as needed, helping me to move through positions and stay calm. She helped my partner to take care of himself, too, which meant that he could be there for me when I needed him. Dakota was invaluable in helping us meet our goal of a peaceful birth with no medical interventions.
Dakota is wonderful when things are going well, but she is also incredible when things go wrong. Towards the end of our birth, my baby's heart rate dropped dramatically. The OB realized that my placenta was detaching and I needed to push my baby out FAST. Dakota quickly switched modes from gentle to focused coaching -- she helped me to breathe and push efficiently but calmly, and my sweet baby came out safely two contractions later. Without Dakota's help, I don't know if we would have had as good of an outcome.
Dakota helped us to have a hospital birth that felt like a home birth. She provided amazing support before, during, and after. I feel very lucky to have had her help and support. I can't imagine a better doula.
I was fortunate to win Dakota’s prenatal, labor, and postpartum services through a charity event auction a couple of months before my due date. I was a bit nervous about using a doula, but my mind was immediately put at ease during our first prenatal visit. I was impressed by the amount of knowledge Dakota possessed.
Dakota was supportive of our goals and asked us many other questions regarding situations that might come up during labor. She thoroughly reviewed the pros and cons of “intervention” and taught us all about the phases of labor, including practicing labor positions.
When the big day came, my husband and I were able to do most of the early labor at home by implementing what Dakota had taught us. At the hospital, I went from three to 10 centimeters in just six hours, actively laboring with my husband and Dakota. She and my husband continually provided encouraging words, counter pressure, and massage with soothing essential oils. Because of some complications, I elected to have an epidural, and the doctor ultimately determined that our baby would need to be deliver by emergency C-section. Dakota guided my husband to ask the doctor some crucial questions. She informed us what to expect (even though it was her first time witnessing one as a doula!) and provided peace of mind. Dakota took phenomenal photos of labor stages—even capturing our son the moment he came out!
Dakota truly is a treasure. We were so incredibly thankful to have met her through this life-changing process. She went above and beyond by offering assistance after our baby was born. During a postnatal visit, she gave me invaluable breastfeeding and swaddling tips that afforded me and my husband some more sleep. I whole-heartedly recommend Dakota as a birth doula! She is remarkable, knowledgeable, caring, and professional. We will certainly be contacting her again if we have another child.

When we asked our friend what Dakota was like as a Doula, she said “Dakota is worth her weight in gold”. When we asked our doctor what he thought of the idea of a doula he simply said, “Well Dakota is by far the best in Central Oregon”. It turns out we could not agree more. Dakota was incredibly intuitive, knowledgeable, focused, and gracious in all ways with her commitment to our needs throughout our birth journey. She always seemed to know what I needed and how to also support my husband...so that he could best support me. We truly believe that she has a gift and could not imagine our story without her.
My boyfriend and I choose to work with Dakota immediately after we first met with her as it was evident she had the experience, knowledge, and attitude we were looking for in a doula. The education and support she provided leading up to our due date made me feel reassured in my ability to have the type of birth that I wanted, and it was so nice to have someone to go to with my questions and concerns. When the day came, she provided valuable suggestions to myself and my partner during early labor, then joined us at our house shortly after my water broke. Surprisingly, our baby came VERY quickly after my water broke - so quick that we didn't make it to the hospital! Fortunately, Dakota acted calmly and confidently in a very intense situation which led to her delivering our baby girl safely. The insight and support she provided once we were at the hospital was exactly what I was hoping for, and the follow up she provided after the birth made us feel supported and cared for. I am so grateful for Dakota's contributions to my positive birth experience and highly recommend her services to expecting families!
When my family and I moved to Bend from Seattle as I entered my third trimester, I knew I wanted to find a doula to help us with the birth of our second child. We had a great doula for the birth of our son and I knew I wanted to have that support again with our second birth, especially given that we were in a new city. We met Dakota and, instantly, I knew that she was the right fit. She was confident, experienced, conversational and, above all else, brought such warmth and positivity to each encounter. We met with Dakota twice for prenatal sessions. I appreciated that, given it wasn’t our first birth, she tailored what we discussed based on where we needed a refresher. As we approached my due date, she was great about checking in, offering her support and encouragement. Once my due date came and went, my doctor wanted to start talking about induction. Dakota helped me think through different options and offered so much support. I was frustrated at the thought of being induced as I had hoped for contractions to start on their own. I shared these frustrations with Dakota and she reminded me that my body was already doing a great job of preparing for labor. It was exactly what I needed to help me come to terms with getting induced—I needed someone to listen and I needed to hear that my body was doing all it could. On the day of our scheduled induction, Dakota met us at the hospital and was with us every step of the way! Dakota was great about offering different suggestions for positions that would help me cope with each contraction. Without Dakota and her tremendous support, I am confident that I would have needed an epidural to manage the pain. She assured me that I could do it, and, in the end, I did it without an epidural! I am so thankful for her—she helped me have the birth I had hoped for. I would not hesitate to have her as our doula again and give her my highest recommendation.
