Our experience with Amy was wonderful. She was very hlepful in preparing for the birth, providing many helpful tips in a supportive and nonjudgmental matter. We practiced comfort measures and breathing techniques that I used during labor. On the day our son was born, Amy provided comfort, peace of mind, and really took care of me (the mother) in ways i didn't even know I needed. She also provided tremendous support to my husband, along with tips to help him support me and be as involved as possible in the birth. Amy helped us to ease our anxiety as first time parents, and with her support and guidance we were able to successfully execute our hopes/birth plan for an unmedicated natural child birth. She also provided a great deal of support and check ins following his birth, which was very helpful for both of us. We are grateful for the gifts and talents Amy possesses, and feel lucky to have had her as a part of our birth experience. We are very happy with our decision to hire her as our doula. Thank you Amy!
Amy is an amazing Doula and I will be hiring her for our future births. My husband started out being very skeptical of the idea of using a Doula, however after meeting Amy his thoughts about it completely changed. Amy was able to answer all of his questions and mine and had the facts/resources to back it up. We were also able to take a Birthing class from Amy, which was very beneficial for learning about the birthing process. Amy was always available to chat on the phone or in person to answer or help with any questions. She came over for prenatal visits where my husband and I would talk through our preferences for the birth and she would help explain certain possibilities that could happen during the birth. She taught us different relaxation techniques that we could use at home and in the hospital.
During my 40 hours of labor, Amy was such a huge support to myself and especially my husband who was able to take breaks and sleep while she took over. Amy was such a calming presence to have in the room, she always seemed to know what I needed and was always one step ahead. Amy was absolutely incredible and a blessing to have around, I would highly suggest her to all my friends and family. Thank you Amy for making my Birth such an amazing experience.
Amy helped support my wife and I through the birth of our second child, Scarlett. We were relatively new to the twin cities area and my wife got to know Amy through her yoga class at Blooma. As a partner who had been through one birth with a doula already, I had already seen first hand the value a doula could bring to the process, and was excited my wife had found someone she connected with.
For anyone thinking about having a doula, I would highly recommend it. Outcomes are way better on average and its a great emotional support for both you and your partner. Not to mention, the social construct that all support giving and birth coaching needs to fall on the partner (often a guy who has never seen or given birth) makes very little sense.
My experience with Amy specifically was very positive both before and during the birth-- she came to our home to refresh our memory on different coping techniques, discuss birth preferences and talk through the logistics of contacting her during labor. We met her at the hospital and she helped my wife (and me!) cope through an unecessarily long stint in the triage room due to the backlog at the hospital.
When things got more difficult in the middle of the birth, she did a great job of suggesting changes of position and new coping techniques to keep things moving. After the birth, when Scarlett's O2 levels were low, Amy was able to stay by my wife's side-- which was a great help because I didn't feel like I was leaving her alone by paying attention to how things were going with Scarlett.
As a guy, I remember being somehwat uneasy about having a doula the first time around. Would it be awkward having someone else in the room? I felt immediately at ease with Amy-- she would take the lead while deferring to me when I gave her thoughts and feedback based my knowledge of my wife and our experinece during our first birth.
Thanks for helping us through a great birth Amy!
Amy is wonderful. I first met Amy by attending her yoga classes and was happy to see that she was offering doula services when we were expecting our first child. I had experienced her calming presence and focus on breath work in yoga class and was hoping for the same during the labor process. At first, my husband was a bit hesitant on the idea of hiring doula because he wanted to be very involved and wasn't sure if it was worth it to hire a doula. Amy supported us BOTH through the process and we could not be more thankful for her calm, reassuring presence to help us acheive the birth experience we were hoping for. Hiring Amy was one of the best decisions we made for the birth of our daughter.
Amy is very friendly. She designed the labor room to motive for the natural delivery. She massaged me when I had contractions. We walked together in the hospital aisles to decrease the pain. She stayed with me for 12 hours till the delivery is completed. We had a successful VBAC together.
Amy was easy going and straight forward. If she didn't know an answer right away, she got back to me within the week. At the time, we were her 2nd, I believe, birth but her emotional support and availability more than made up for any lack of experience. She really wanted to be there for us and for our birth process and made it apparent, without being overt, that we were important. This made it easy, along with her relaxed way, to be open with her. During the birth, she always kept eye contact and I felt her ears were ready and available to me should I need anything. She was an integral part of bringing my baby into the world. Oh! And her rebozo wrap felt amazing on my pregnant body.
Amy was an integral part of the birth of my daughter and I can't imagine having gone through the Labor and Delivery without her. Knowing that I can be a bit high-stress in certain situations, my husband and I were looking for someone who could keep me calm and relaxed as possible through the birthing process. Amy is one of the most calm people I know so it seemed only natural to have her be apart of this very special experience. She was instrumental when my contractions were quickly progressing as she helped me to focus on my breath while keeping me calm. Amy was encouraging at the right times and asked very specific and poignant questions to the health care team. My husband and Amy made the perfect team, alternating the faciliation of different positions during contractions and the pushing stage. She brought healthy snacks that helped keep my energy levels going through a very long labor process.
Not only was Amy great during L&D, she also provided great resources and tips before the birth. She helped me when I was going through back pain in my third trimester by offering up different stretches and yogic positions. Amy was also always on hand to answer my sporadic and random questions regarding labor which always helped ease my mind.
Amy provided her doula services post L&D as well by visiting our family a few weeks after the birth. Her calm ways are always welcome especially when living a new life with a newborn.
She's gentle, yet assertive, and I honestly can't imagine a better person helping us through the birth of our very special daughter.
Amy was very supportive before, during, and after the delivery of our second son. Both my husband and I felt very comfortable sharing our thoughts, concerns, and goals for labor with Amy. She was very easy to work with. Though my labor progressed quickly, having Amy as an additional support person prior to delivery to discuss comfort measures as well as after to help us settle into life with a newborn was wonderful. With her background in pre-natal yoga and fitness, she also helped me develop a plan for post-partum exercise. Regardless of your goals for delivery, I would recommend working with Amy.
Amy anticipiated our needs and met them wonderfully, helping us achieve the birth we envisioned. She is very intuitive and sensitive to each person involved. My partner also felt support and attention during the process and after the birth. Couldn't have achieved our birth goals without her!
