From the first time I met Carleigh (recommended to me by my first doula) I had the heart connection with her because she is a mother and had experienced two unmedicated births of her own. I was able to explain to her that I wanted to have an unmedicated birth but that I wasn’t sure I could mentally get there, let alone physically when the time came. She always made me feel OK about whatever would happen, but encouraged me over and over that I had everything I needed to have the birth I desired. When it came down to birth day, Carleigh’s presence immediately brought me a sense of calm and support, reminders of my strength and the physical touch I needed through each contraction. She is gentle AND so strong. Calming AND able to carry the energy needed through the labor journey. She blended in perfectly with my husband and mother; they each had their roles and I needed each one of them. When I felt like giving up because of exhaustion, Carleigh would again, gently but confidently with strength remind me to just get through one more contraction and that I chose this option for my baby. She offered encouragement after most contractions, telling me how well I did and how strong I was. This was necessary to me believing it myself. I cannot imagine having gotten through my beautiful, redemptive birth experience without Carleigh by my side and if i have another child in the future, i would consider myself blessed if I find her by my side again.
I had my first child on March 21st of this year at a birth center. When my husband and I first met with her, we knew she would be a great fit because of her groundedness, professionalism, respect for our wishes, and her own experience with natural birth. When my active labor began late at night, I started shaking uncontrollably. Despite all we'd done to educate and prepare ourselves, my husband I did not know what to do. I said, "Call Carleigh!!" Once she came to the house and started helping me into different positions, I stopped shaking almost immediately. Just having her presence then and throughout the birth made both my husband and I feel so much more at ease, knowing someone had our backs at all times. We were surprised by how little we were actually attended by the nurses/midwife during the 12 hours we were there, and most of the time, Carleigh was our only support person. Without her, my husband would have felt unable to ever rest or leave the room! After the birth, Carleigh wrote us a beautiful birth story to document the process which helped a lot in processing the experience afterward. She also took many precious photos of the birth which are such a treasure to us. I would highly recommend her!
As a young mom I found when I was pregnant I had little experience and knowledge about pregnancy and birth as most of my friends do not yet have kids. Carleigh was there for me pratically daily as I walked through this exciting but also scary season. I am one that has and asks tons of questions and Carleigh joyfully answered or searched around for the answers to all my questions. Carleigh is so graceful, understanding, and kind. I honestly don't know what I would have done without her and can't imagine a better doula. Even though I live in Washigton state she did everything she could have possibly done from California to support and encourage me. When my birth plan got thrown out the door at the last minute and I had to be induced, Carleigh helped my husband and I make it through naturally at a hospital where I had tons of unwanted but nescessary interventions. She showed she can help people through things even when everything is going a way they didn't want or plan on it going. Labor and birth are unpredictable and you need somebody like this to help you cope and transition through it. Even after birth as we adjusted to new parenthood, sleep deprivation, breastfeeding, and all the other things that come in the 4th trimester Carleigh was an amazing support and resource. She checks in on me and my baby and I could go on and on - she's the best and a pure joy.
After deciding that we would like to attempt to have a natural, unmedicated birth (at a hospital) for the birth of our first child, my husband and I felt that hiring a birth doula would provide us with the support needed to make this desire a reality. After finding Carleigh, we knew we made the right choice. From the beginning, Carleigh was always extremely responsive, professional, thorough and calming. I loved that Carleigh had also had an unmedicated birth with her son, so she not only was extremely knowledgeable about pregnancy and the birth process, but I knew she could relate to my desires and what I wanted to achieve from personal experience as well. Throughout my pregnancy, Carleigh was able to offer me w/ piece of mind by addressing any questions or concerns I had about pregnancy or any labor-related anxieties. During our pre-labor consultation, Carleigh was very thorough in asking me questions to help me define my birth plan; I felt very confident she could represent what I wanted for our birth to the hospital staff, while also representing/supporting any contingent delivery plans, in case any surprises came up.
Carleigh's services were even more invaluable the night I went into labor. She joined us at our home a few hours after labor had started and was very calming and encouraging. She helped us with labor positions and managevent, and gave me the confidence to know that everything that was happening was normal/productive. She was able to give us the recommendation on when to head to the hospital, which was the perfect suggestion because I arrived at 8 cm dilated! Carleigh remained by my husband's and my side through the pushing stage and delivery of my son, and I can honestly say I'm not sure if we could have done it without her. She gave us the confidence and comfort that we had some "control" over our hospital birth story. If you are looking for a doula, hire Carleigh! You won't regret it.
I was so blessed and fortunate to get Carleigh as my doula for the birth of my first baby this January. Carleigh was exactly what I needed as a coach and support through my labor and delivery. She carried so much peace and confidence throughout and really gave me courage to get through the long hours of labor!! She wasn't forceful or too outspoken about her opinions or thoughts, but really helped me make the best choices for my experience.
Carleigh helped me stay focused and calm, reminding me that my body could this, and that I was doing an amazing job. She really knows what she's talking about and would suggest things that serisouly releived pain and made me more comfortable.
Also she checked up on me through my postpartum weeks.. making sure I felt supported and championed.. which I needed!!
Thinking back and remembering my labor I'm filled with gratitude that I had such a awesome support from Carleigh and my husband. I can honestly say it wouldn't have gone so well without her amazing help. I would HIGHLY recommend Carleigh to anyone who is looking for a doula.. you won't regret it!!!
